In the event of illness or accident during travel, the insured must contact the assistance center as soon as possible. In cases of force majeure that prevent communication, this must be done as soon as the cause has ceased.

Unauthorized treatment

Medical expenses for treatments not arranged or authorized in advance by the assistance center may not be covered or may be subject to reduced reimbursement. The insured should contact Occident/Europ Assistance before seeking treatment where possible.

Purchase while abroad

The policy should generally be purchased before departure. Contact Occident advisors for specific conditions if the trip has already started.

Chronic conditions

Chronic and pre-existing diseases are generally not covered unless the optional extra protection add-on has been contracted and a medical certificate confirming fitness to travel has been provided.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications (including premature birth and miscarriage) are covered for trip cancellation purposes when the pregnancy is considered high-risk and the treating physician prescribes rest, or when the insured's spouse/partner has such complications. Normal pregnancy is not a covered cause.

Pre-existing conditions are covered only if the optional extra protection benefit has been contracted before the trip and a medical certificate confirms the insured's ability to travel. Without this add-on, pre-existing conditions are excluded.
