Unique selling points
- Selectable liability coverage limits of up to EUR 20 million — well above the Austrian legal minimum of EUR 7.6 million — providing significantly stronger financial protection for serious accidents.
- Optional 'Freischaden-Bonus' prevents bonus-malus downgrading after one MTPL claim per year, protecting long-term policyholders in stages 0–7 from premium increases.
- Optional 'Helvetia Card KFZ' provides 24/7 roadside assistance with breakdown help, towing, and rental car for cars and motorcycles — also available in the bundled 'Europabündel' package.
- 12% environmental discount on the motor insurance premium for vehicles that contribute to CO2 reduction, rewarding eco-friendly vehicle choices.
- Flexible modular product design: MTPL, partial casco, and full casco can be individually combined with optional add-ons (assistance, passenger accident, legal protection) to precisely match customer needs.

SourceKey conditions
territorial_scope
Coverage applies throughout Europe in the geographical sense (excluding the Asian part of Turkey), and in all states party to the multilateral guarantee agreement of 30 May 2002, including all EU/EEA member states, Andorra, Switzerland, and Serbia. When the vehicle is transported by water (ferry), coverage is not interrupted if loading/unloading points are within the territorial scope.
green_card_rules
The Green Card (International Insurance Certificate) is issued with the policy. Coverage extends to all Green Card member states according to the multilateral guarantee agreement. In countries where the Green Card is legally required, it must be carried in the vehicle. The insurance cover expires at the end of the policy contract even if a longer period is stated on the Green Card.
driver_restrictions
The driver must in all cases hold the legally required driving licence (Lenkberechtigung) for the vehicle, including when driving on private ground. The driver must not be impaired by alcohol, narcotics, or medication. Coverage extends to the vehicle owner, authorised drivers, passengers, and persons directing the driver.
claim_notification_deadline
Claims, third-party demands, and the initiation of administrative or judicial proceedings must be reported to Helvetia within 1 week of becoming aware. For theft, robbery, vandalism, fire, explosion, animal collision, damage by an unknown vehicle, and damage to third-party property (where no data exchange occurred on the spot), the driver must report the incident to the nearest police station within 12 hours.
bonus_malus_rules
Austria applies a unified bonus-malus system with stages 0 to 18. New policyholders generally start at stage 9 (= 100% of the base premium). Each claim-free year results in one step improvement (towards bonus). A claim causes an upward adjustment of 3 stages. The observation period runs from 1 October to 30 September. An optional annual 'Freischaden-Bonus' is available for cars and motorcycles in stages 0 to 7: after one MTPL claim, no downgrade to a worse bonus-malus stage occurs (maximum 1 claim per year).
