UNIQA Österreich Versicherungen AG (trading as Raiffeisen Versicherung)
Raiffeisen Versicherung
Raiffeisen Versicherung is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Austria market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The premium is paid in advance according to the agreed payment frequency (annually, half-yearly, quarterly or monthly), by payment slip, direct debit authorization or online bank transfer as agreed in the contract.
Geographic scope
Nationwide (Austria)
Coverage applies to Europe in the geographical sense, at least to all states that signed the 30 May 2002 agreement between the national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states (Green Card system); the territorial scope can be contractually extended.
Unique selling points
- Uniquely among Austrian insurers, the bonus/malus system caps a claim's downgrade impact at a single malus stage rather than compounding through repeated increases.
- Standard combined liability sum of EUR 15 million (upgradeable to EUR 30 million), well above typical market minimums.
- Verkehrs-Soforthilfe emergency assistance operates Europe-wide, 365 days a year, around the clock, free of charge for the policyholder.
- Optional Freischaden-Gutschein lets policyholders avoid a bonus/malus downgrade after a claim, even though the insurer pays it.
- Motor insurance products (MTPL, Casco, accident, legal protection) can all be arranged from a single provider for streamlined cover and claims handling.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability (combined personal and property damage sum)
€15,000,000 – €30,000,000
A single combined (Pauschal) sum insured applies jointly to bodily injury and property damage claims arising from use of the insured vehicle. Depending on the variant chosen, this sum is EUR 15,000,000 or EUR 30,000,000, plus an additional EUR 80,000 for pure financial losses. Costs, interest and other ancillary charges are credited against this sum.
Property damage liability (combined personal and property damage sum)
€15,000,000 – €30,000,000
Property damage claims share the same combined Pauschal sum insured as bodily injury claims (EUR 15,000,000 or EUR 30,000,000 depending on the chosen variant), plus a separate EUR 80,000 sub-limit for pure financial losses that are neither personal injury nor property damage.
Defence against unjustified claims
Covered
The insurance includes satisfying justified claims and defending against unjustified third-party claims. There is no separate sum insured for legal defence; related costs are charged against the overall liability sum, and if claims exceed the sum insured the insurer bears legal costs only in proportion to the sum insured relative to total claims.
Green Card / international insurance card
Covered
In states for which a Green Card is issued (or for which its presentation is waived under the 30 May 2002 inter-bureau agreement), the insurance extends at least to the coverage prescribed in that state for foreign-registered vehicles, or the contractually agreed scope if higher. Cover under the Green Card ends when the policy ends, even if a longer validity is shown on the card.
Traffic assistance service (Verkehrs-Soforthilfe)
—
A 24/7 emergency assistance service (breakdown, accident, vehicle failure, towing, recovery, child collection). Sources conflict on whether this is automatically included or a paid optional add-on: the 2019 IPID lists it as optional, while the current official product page states it is automatically included with the MTPL policy at no extra cost.
Driver accident cover
No limit stated
Not part of this MTPL product. Personal accident cover for the driver is sold separately (e.g. as a Kfz-Unfallversicherung / Lenkerschutz add-on product) and is not mentioned in the MTPL terms or IPID.
Passenger accident cover
No limit stated
Not part of this MTPL product. Passenger/occupant accident cover is sold as a separate Kfz-Unfallversicherung product and is not part of the MTPL terms or IPID.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Coverage applies to Europe in the geographical sense, in any case to the territory of the states that signed the 30 May 2002 agreement between the national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states.
Green card rules
In countries where a Green Card is issued or its presentation is waived by treaty, cover extends at least to the scope prescribed in that country for foreign-registered vehicles, or the contractually agreed scope if higher; cover ends with the policy regardless of the validity period shown on the card.
Driver restrictions
Cover requires the driver to hold a valid driving licence for the vehicle, not to be impaired by alcohol or drugs while driving, to observe agreed usage conditions, and not to carry more persons than contractually or legally permitted; breach of these obligations can lead to full or partial loss of cover.
Claim notification deadline
The policyholder must notify the insurer of the insured event, any claim raised by a third party, and any administrative or court proceedings within one week of becoming aware of them.
Bonus-malus rules
Premiums for most passenger cars and light trucks up to 3,500 kg are set according to a bonus-malus scale ranging from stage -3 (42% of base premium, after 12 claim-free years) up to stage 10 (150%, after a prior contract with a rate above 100%). New policyholders without a transferable claims history start at stage 8 (95%). A claim-free observation period (1 October to 30 September) moves the premium one stage lower; each claim charged to the insurer moves it three stages higher.
