Geographic scope
Nationwide (Austria), insurer headquartered in Tyrol
Europe in the geographical sense, and in any case the territory of the states that signed the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement between national insurance bureaus of the EEA member states and other associated states of 30 May 2002.

Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
€8,000,000 – €20,000,000
Covers justified third-party claims for bodily injury (and property damage and pure financial loss) up to a single combined insured sum. The statutory minimum is EUR 8,000,000; higher sums of EUR 10, 15 or 20 million can be agreed against a low additional premium.
Property damage liability
€8,000,000 – €20,000,000
Covers justified third-party claims for property damage under the same single combined insured sum as bodily injury and pure financial loss. Statutory minimum EUR 8,000,000, voluntarily increasable to EUR 10, 15 or 20 million.
Defence against unjustified claims
Not established from the insurer's documents
The insurance covers both the satisfaction of justified claims and the defence against unjustified damage claims raised against the policyholder or co-insured persons; defence costs are counted against the insured sum (Art. 1 and Art. 6 AKHB).
Green Card / international insurance card
Not established from the insurer's documents
In states for which a Green Card is issued (or for which its presentation is waived), cover extends at least to the scope prescribed for foreign-registered vehicles in that state, or to the contractually agreed scope if higher; cover ends with the end of the insurance contract even if the card shows a longer validity.
Roadside assistance (KFZ-Assistance)
Optional
Not included in the base MTPL policy; sold as a separate optional 'KFZ-Assistance' product offering towing/crane recovery after breakdown or accident up to EUR 220, transport-cost reimbursement up to EUR 730 (Austria) / EUR 2,200 (abroad), and alternatively hotel costs up to EUR 60/night (max. 4 nights) or rental-car costs up to EUR 375, plus a 24-hour claims intake line.
Driver accident insurance
Optional
The base MTPL liability policy does not cover the driver's own claims (Art. 8.1 AKHB excludes owner/keeper claims; the IPID lists 'Schadenersatzansprüche des Lenkers' as not insured). A separate optional 'Insassen-Unfall-Versicherung' product with freely selectable sums for permanent disability, death, daily allowance and accident costs can be taken out for the driver alone or for all occupants.
Passenger accident insurance
Optional
Authorised occupants injured in an accident already have recourse as co-insured third parties under the bodily injury liability sum (Art. 2 AKHB). In addition, a separate optional 'Insassen-Unfall-Versicherung' with freely selectable sums for all occupants (permanent disability, death, daily allowance, accident costs) can be purchased, paying out regardless of fault.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies to Europe in the geographical sense, in any case to the states that signed the 30 May 2002 Multilateral Agreement between national insurance bureaus of the EEA states and associated states; the scope can be contractually extended for other countries (e.g. Türkiye, non-European destinations).
Green card rules
For EEA/EWR states, Switzerland and Croatia, the licence plate itself serves as proof of insurance; for other European countries such as Ukraine or Serbia, a Green Card must be carried, and cover in the visited state extends at least to the locally prescribed minimum.
Driver restrictions
Cover is jeopardised if the driver lacks a valid licence, drives under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if more passengers than permitted are carried; breach of these obligations can lead to the insurer being released from EUR 11,000 of liability per breach, up to a maximum of EUR 22,000 per claim (Art. 9 and 11 AKHB).
Claim notification deadline
The insurer must be notified of the claim, any claims raised, and any administrative or judicial proceedings within one week of becoming aware of them (Art. 9.3.3 AKHB, IPID).
Bonus-malus rules
Premium is based on the claims history: one claim-free year improves the premium by one bonus step, while one claim worsens it by three steps; from step 0 only 40% of the base premium is paid, and long-term claim-free drivers can reach special bonus step S03.
