Key conditions

territorial_scope

Coverage extends to geographic Europe, and at minimum to all states that signed the EEA inter-bureau agreement of 30 May 2002 (Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France incl. Monaco, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK). Water transport does not interrupt coverage if loading ports are within the territorial scope; coverage ends upon completion of loading if the destination is outside the scope.

green_card_rules

In countries where a Green Card is issued or its presentation waived under the EEA inter-bureau agreement, the insurance applies at least to the minimum scope prescribed in that country for vehicles with foreign registration plates, or the contractually agreed sum if higher. Coverage lapses when the policy ends, even if a longer duration is stated on the Green Card.

driver_restrictions

The driver must hold the legally required motor vehicle licence for driving the insured vehicle on public roads at all times, including when used off public roads. The driver must not be impaired by alcohol or drugs as defined in road traffic regulations. A breach of these obligations can lead to the insurer's freedom from liability, subject to limitations under Article 11 (max. EUR 11,000 per case; EUR 22,000 per claim overall).

claim_notification_deadline

The insurer must be notified within at most one week of the policyholder becoming aware of the loss event, including the exact circumstances, any third-party claims, and initiation of administrative or judicial proceedings. In the event of bodily injury, the nearest police station must be notified immediately. Failure to notify within this period may result in loss of coverage unless the breach was neither intentional nor grossly negligent.

bonus_malus_rules

The premium is determined by a Bonus-Malus system with steps ranging from 0 (maximum bonus) to 17 (malus). Each claim-free year improves the classification; a self-caused accident results in an increase of three steps. The current step is stored in a central Austrian insurance register and is transferred when changing vehicles or insurer. A Bonusretter (bonus protector) add-on is available for steps 0–3 to preserve the classification after one claim for an additional 10% premium. Family members in the same household can use the policyholder's favourable bonus step.
