Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In case of emergency, contact the 24-hour emergency hotline as soon as possible; for planned inpatient, repeated outpatient treatment, repatriation or death abroad, contact must be made with the hotline beforehand so the insurer can organize and directly settle the necessary measures.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured pays medical costs themselves and statutory social insurance cover also exists, those costs must first be claimed from the social insurer; failure to do so reduces the insurer's benefit by 20%.

Purchase while abroad

The insurance must be concluded before departure; taking out the policy while already traveling is only permitted with a special prior agreement with the insurer.

Chronic conditions

A chronic or pre-existing illness or accident sequela present before departure is covered if it unexpectedly becomes acute during the trip and is not otherwise excluded, up to the agreed sum insured for pre-existing conditions.

Pregnancy

Premature birth or unexpected serious pregnancy complications are covered up to the end of the 35th week of pregnancy; cover for cancellation due to pregnancy only applies if the policy was concluded within 3 days of booking the trip.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Acute unexpected worsening of a pre-existing illness or accident sequela is covered, but total benefits for related medical treatment, transport and repatriation are limited to a combined maximum of €500,000.

Coverage duration limit

Base cover applies to the first 42 days of each trip during the insurance year; this can be extended to 84 days per trip with the optional 'Reisedauer' package.
