HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung AG
HanseMerkur
HanseMerkur is a travel insurance for the Austria market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Via the 24-hour emergency service, HanseMerkur can issue a direct guarantee of payment to the treating hospital of up to EUR 15,000 (granted as a loan against a copy of ID/passport); amounts advanced must be repaid by the insured within one month of invoicing if no other health cover applies.
Geographic scope
Worldwide
Coverage applies worldwide; it begins when crossing the border out of Austria into a foreign country and ends when crossing back into Austria.
Unique selling points
- Unlimited reimbursement of medically necessary outpatient and inpatient treatment costs abroad, well above the fixed caps many competitors apply.
- One annual premium covers an unlimited number of trips per year (each up to 62 days), making it more economical than buying single-trip cover from the second trip onward.
- Worldwide, multilingual 24-hour emergency call service that arranges direct payment guarantees to hospitals and organises medically necessary repatriation.
- Hotel costs for an accompanying co-insured person are covered if the policyholder cannot travel home due to a hospital stay, a benefit not all competing annual policies include.
- Flexible family cover for up to 7 people (2 adults plus children up to age 25) without any requirement of kinship or shared household.
