Covered
The muki 24-hour emergency service can be reached at any time via the emergency number stated on the emergency card (from abroad: +43 1 364 4 364). Only muki's emergency doctors decide on the necessity, type, timing and fitness for transport, as well as the need for trip interruption or extension.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured person (or their representative) must contact muki's 24-hour emergency hotline without delay in an emergency abroad; only muki's emergency doctors decide on the necessity, type and timing of transport, and on any trip interruption or extension.
Unauthorized treatment
If the instructions of the muki emergency service are not followed in an insured event, in particular if a return transport of the insured person is refused or negligently missed, there is no entitlement to further benefits or additional costs from that insured event. There is also no obligation to pay if the air ambulance was not commissioned by muki.
Purchase while abroad
The reviewed terms do not address purchasing the policy while already abroad. A precondition for concluding the contract is that every insured person is subject to Austrian statutory health insurance and has their main residence in Austria.
Chronic conditions
Trip cancellation and trip interruption benefits are excluded if the reason relates to specified chronic/serious conditions (heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, migraine, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, herniated disc) that were treated as inpatient within the 12 months before booking and already existed or were foreseeable at the time of booking or departure.
Pregnancy
If a pregnancy is already known to the insured person at the start of a foreign stay, or already known before booking, related abortion, delivery, postpartum illness and cancellation/interruption of the trip are excluded from cover; only unforeseeable acute pregnancy complications, premature birth before completion of week 32, and miscarriage are covered.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Illnesses and the aggravation of existing, congenital or degenerative damage are generally not treated as accidents under this tariff, and specified pre-existing serious conditions bar trip cancellation/interruption cover if treated as inpatient within the 12 months before booking.
Coverage duration limit
Worldwide travel-related cover applies to vacation-related stays abroad of up to 31 days; cover ends when the stay abroad ends, but at the latest after the first month, except that benefits for an already-occurred insured event continue until the insured person is fit to travel again.
