Groupama Zastrahovane EAD
Groupama
Groupama is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Bulgaria market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
Insurance compensation is paid by bank transfer to the injured party's bank account in Bulgarian lev within 15 business days of submission of all required documents. Payment may also be made to a notarially authorized representative. In the case of total loss, Groupama pays not less than the statutory minimum limits. Compensation for non-material damages is determined by an Insurance Expert Commission (ZEK).
Geographic scope
Bulgaria and Green Card system countries
Covers the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, all EU/EEA member states, and all countries whose national bureaux are members of the Green Card system; also covers third countries when damages are caused to residents of EU member states travelling between two EU territories and no national bureau bears responsibility for that territory.

Coverage limits
Bodily Injury and Death Liability
Covered
Covers third-party claims for non-material and material damages resulting from bodily injury or death caused by the insured vehicle. The statutory minimum limit per event under Art. 492 of the Bulgarian Insurance Code is BGN 10,420,000, regardless of the number of injured persons.
Property Damage Liability
Covered
Covers third-party claims for damage to property (other than the at-fault vehicle and property transported in it) caused by the insured vehicle. The statutory minimum limit per event under Art. 492 of the Bulgarian Insurance Code is BGN 2,100,000, regardless of the number of injured parties.
Legal Defence / Court Costs
Conditional
Interest and court costs are generally excluded, except in cases expressly provided for in the Bulgarian Insurance Code. Legal defence is therefore conditional and not covered as a standard benefit under the base MTPL product.
Green Card International Certificate
Covered
The Green Card international insurance certificate is automatically issued with the MTPL policy and is required for travel to non-EU Green Card system countries. It confirms valid MTPL coverage under the international system governed by the Council of Bureaux Internal Regulations.
Roadside Assistance
Excluded
Roadside assistance is not covered under the base MTPL policy. It is available as a separate optional product (Авто Асистанс packages A, B, or T) offered alongside MTPL.
At-Fault Driver Accident Cover
Excluded
Damages suffered by the at-fault driver of the insured vehicle are explicitly excluded from MTPL coverage per the IPID. The insurer has a right of recourse against the at-fault driver in cases of DUI, hit-and-run, or intentional causing of the accident.
Passenger Accident (First-Party)
Excluded
First-party passenger accident cover is not included in the base MTPL policy. It is available as the separate optional product 'Злополука на лицата в превозните средства' (Accident of Persons in Vehicles), offered in SOLO or Comfort packages alongside MTPL. Third-party passengers injured by the insured vehicle are covered via the bodily injury liability limit.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
The MTPL policy covers the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, all EU and EEA member states, and all countries whose national insurer bureaux are members of the Green Card system, on the basis of a single premium for the entire policy period. Coverage also extends to third countries when damages are caused to residents of an EU member state while travelling between two EU member-state territories, provided no national bureau bears responsibility for that territory.
Green card rules
Claims arising from accidents in foreign Green Card countries are regulated in accordance with the Internal Regulations of the Council of Bureaux. The injured party may lodge a claim directly with Groupama's Motor Claims Department, the National Bureau of the country where the accident occurred, the National Bureau of the injured party's country, or Groupama's correspondent in either country. Claims for events in third (non-EU) countries prior to 01.01.2016 required a separate Green Card certificate; from 01.01.2016, a valid MTPL policy suffices.
Driver restrictions
The MTPL policy covers the insured's liability for any authorized driver of the insured vehicle. Groupama has a right of personal recourse against the at-fault driver when: the driver was under the influence of alcohol above the legal limit or narcotics; the driver failed to stop and address a fault that threatened road safety; the driver left the accident scene before traffic authorities arrived (when required by law); the driver intentionally caused the accident; or the accident occurred during the commission of an intentional criminal offence. The insurer also has recourse against any driver operating the vehicle without a valid licence for the relevant vehicle category.
Claim notification deadline
The insured must notify Groupama immediately upon becoming aware of circumstances that could give rise to civil liability. If immediate notification is not possible, the insured must notify Groupama no later than 7 days from the date of learning of the relevant circumstances. Within the same period the insured must also notify Groupama of any claims or lawsuits filed against them and any payments made. Notifications may be made by phone (0700 123 32 for events in Bulgaria; +359 2 902 48 13 for events abroad), by email to office@groupama.bg, or in writing to Groupama's central office. The 15-business-day settlement deadline and the 3-month final decision deadline only begin running once all required documents have been submitted.
Bonus-malus rules
Bonus-malus rules are not specified in the available product sources. Premium determination references vehicle type, purpose and the insured's accident history over the past 3 years, per the online calculator, but no detailed bonus-malus scale is published in the IPID or claims processing rules.
