24/7 assistance

Covered

The insurance provides 24-hour assistance and support when the insured requires medical aid, treatment or transport during travel. The assistance is organised through the partnering assistance company Eurocross Bulgaria. The insured must contact the assistance company immediately (within 24 hours) upon an insured event.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the assistance company or the insurer immediately, within 24 hours of the insured event, to ensure exercise of rights under the policy. If the insured was admitted to hospital on an emergency basis and their condition did not medically allow them to make contact, they must fulfil this obligation immediately after their condition permits, but no later than three working days, and in all cases before leaving the medical facility. Failure to notify within the stated period entitles the insurer to settle the medical care at average market prices for the respective country, or to reduce or fully deny payment.

Unauthorized treatment

All expenses incurred without the approval of the assistance company or the insurer are excluded from coverage (clause 12.2). If the insured does not contact the assistance company or insurer within the required period, the insurer compensates the used medical services at average market prices for the respective country, or may reduce or fully deny payment if non-compliance was aimed at preventing the insurer from establishing the circumstances of the event.

Purchase while abroad

The policy comes into force at 00:00 hours on the start date stated in the policy, provided the premium has been paid. The premium is paid in full at the time of policy conclusion unless otherwise agreed. If the premium is not paid or is paid incorrectly, the insurance contract does not enter into force. The T&C do not provide for purchase while already abroad.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases are excluded from coverage (clause 12.10/12.11), except in the event of an unforeseen exacerbation so serious as to require emergency medical care to save the insured's life, in which case only the costs of stabilising the critical condition are covered.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy, childbirth, abortion and related complications are generally excluded. Exception: medical expenses to save the life of the pregnant woman and/or child are covered if at least two months remain until the due date at the departure date (clause 12.14.1). Premature delivery or abortion caused by a covered accident is also reimbursed (clause 12.14.2).

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing conditions (diseases diagnosed before the start of the insurance period) are explicitly excluded under clause 12.10. Chronic diseases are also excluded under clause 12.11, with the narrow exception for acute life-threatening exacerbation.

Coverage duration limit

The insurance period is from 1 day to 1 year, depending on the duration of the insured's stay outside Bulgaria. A multitrip policy can be concluded for multiple trips within one year, with coverage per trip of 31, 62 or 93 days from the date of crossing the Bulgarian border until return. Hospitalization coverage is limited to 20 days per event and 50 days total per policy period.
