Key conditions

territorial_scope

Insurance coverage extends to the territory of the Republic of Croatia and to EU/EEA member states and Green Card System member countries. In those countries the insurer's obligation towards injured parties is aligned with Article 1(6) of the Terms. If the minimum insured sum prescribed in the country where the loss occurred is higher than the Croatian statutory minimum, the insurer provides coverage up to that higher amount.

green_card_rules

The insurance policy is valid in Croatia and in all Green Card System member states. The Green Card serves as international proof of compulsory motor liability insurance. For travel to member states where the registration plate is not accepted as proof of insurance, the policyholder should ensure the Green Card document is carried.

driver_restrictions

The insured loses rights under the policy if: (1) the driver used the vehicle for a purpose other than its intended use; (2) the driver did not hold a valid driving licence of the appropriate type or category; (3) the driver had their licence revoked or was excluded from traffic; (4) the driver was under the influence of alcohol (0.5‰ or more) or drugs/psychoactive substances at the time of the accident, or refused testing; (5) damage was caused intentionally; (6) damage resulted from a technically defective vehicle known to the driver; (7) damage was caused by the criminal offence of reckless driving with a final court judgment. The insured may avoid loss of rights by proving no personal fault or no causal link between the circumstance and the accident.

claim_notification_deadline

The insured must notify the insurer of the loss event within 3 days of the event occurring and provide truthful and complete data on the course of the traffic accident and its circumstances. If a civil claim, lawsuit or request for evidence preservation has been filed against the insured, notification must also be given within 3 days of receiving such documentation, together with all written materials. Failure to comply reduces the insurer's obligation to the insured by the amount of damage caused by such breach.

bonus_malus_rules

In the event of an at-fault traffic accident, the policyholder's bonus is reduced by 15 percentage points in the following year. An optional bonus protection add-on is available that preserves the earned bonus even after an at-fault claim. All insurers in Croatia use a unified bonus-malus system accessible via a central register. The bonus is linked to the vehicle owner's personal identification number (OIB), not the vehicle or insurer, and is portable when switching insurers or purchasing a new vehicle.
