GRAWE Hrvatska Insurance Joint-Stock Company
GRAWE
GRAWE is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Croatia market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
GRAWE settles claims directly with the injured third party: it must issue a reasoned compensation offer (or a substantiated response if liability or the amount is disputed) within 60 days of receiving the claim, and pay the offered or undisputed amount as an advance within 15 days of that offer/response and no later than 60 days from claim receipt; the injured party may submit their own independently chosen expert report and repair quote. The insurer may seek recourse against the driver (up to 12 average net salaries, or the full amount in cases of intent or reckless-driving convictions) in specified circumstances such as driving under the influence or fleeing the scene.
Geographic scope
Croatia
Coverage applies in the Republic of Croatia and in all Green Card System member states; if the country where the accident occurred prescribes a minimum sum insured higher than Croatia's, the insurer must provide cover up to that higher amount.
Unique selling points
- GRAWE AO Zaštita bonusa lets policyholders keep their existing bonus premium level even after a first reported claim.
- AO PLUS extends the compulsory liability policy to also compensate the driver for damage suffered through their own fault, provided they complied with traffic rules.
- Optional GRAWE MOBIL roadside assistance is available in two tiers - Europe-wide (GRAWE MOBIL EUROPA) or Croatia-only (GRAWE MOBIL HRVATSKA) - with a service centre reachable around the clock.
- GRAWE Drugi Auto provides a free replacement vehicle delivered to the policyholder's chosen location while their car is being repaired after an insured event.
- Policyholders who already hold GRAWE life, property or health insurance can obtain additional discounts and benefits when adding motor cover.

Key conditions
Territorial scope
Coverage applies in the Republic of Croatia and in all Green Card System member states, unless otherwise agreed.
Green card rules
If the Green Card member state where the loss occurred prescribes a minimum sum insured higher than the Croatian minimum, the insurer must provide cover up to the higher amount prescribed in that state.
Driver restrictions
The insured loses rights under the policy if the vehicle was not used for its intended purpose; the driver lacked a valid licence of the correct category, had it revoked/suspended, or was barred from driving; the driver was under the influence of alcohol (0.5‰ or more, or any amount for categories where zero-alcohol driving is legally required), drugs or psychoactive substances, or refused testing after an accident; the driver left the scene before completing a European Accident Report or notifying police in cases of injury/death; the driver caused the loss intentionally; the vehicle was known by the driver to be technically defective; or the loss was caused by a reckless-driving offence with a final court conviction.
Claim notification deadline
The insured must notify the insurer of a loss event within 3 days and provide truthful and complete information about the course of the accident and its circumstances.
Bonus-malus rules
Premium level is set on a bonus/malus scale from GS9 (40% of the base level-10 premium) down through levels 1-18 (up to 250% of the base premium). A claim-free year (at least one full year insured with GRAWE and no reported claims) earns one level lower, down to a maximum of GS9; every reported claim moves the policyholder three levels higher, up to a maximum of level 18. Contracts shorter than a year (but at least 8 months) receive full bonus/malus rights as if for a full year; shorter contracts otherwise cannot lower the level but can raise it if a claim occurs. Leasing users are treated as the policyholder for bonus/malus purposes if the policy states the vehicle is leased.
