Direct payment

The insurer must issue the injured party a reasoned settlement offer or a substantiated reply within 60 days of receiving the claim, pay an advance on the undisputed part of the claim within 15 days of that offer/reply (and no later than 60 days after receiving the claim), and pay statutory interest from the date the claim was filed if this deadline is missed. Litigation costs are reimbursed to the insured in full, regardless of the sum insured, when the insurer approved the defence.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Cover extends to the Republic of Croatia and to Green Card System member countries, unless otherwise agreed; if legal protection is additionally contracted, the scope extends to Europe.

Green card rules

The Green Card is issued free of charge and proves MTPL cover abroad in Green Card System states. If the minimum insured sum prescribed in the state where the loss occurred is higher than the Croatian minimum, the insurer must extend cover up to that higher amount.

Driver restrictions

The insured loses rights under the policy if the driver used the vehicle other than for its intended purpose, lacked a valid driving licence for the vehicle category, had the licence revoked or was banned from driving, caused the damage intentionally, knew the vehicle was technically unroadworthy, committed reckless driving as defined by a final criminal judgment, or was driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.5‰ or more (or refused testing / left the scene before completing required formalities).

Claim notification deadline

Claims must be reported to the insurer within 3 days of the event, providing truthful and complete information about the accident's course and circumstances.

Bonus-malus rules

The premium is adjusted through a bonus/malus system based on the policyholder's claims history. An optional, separately-priced bonus-protection add-on can be purchased so that, on renewal (provided the insured and vehicle are unchanged), the insurer will not change the bonus/malus percentage due to one, specifically the first, claim under the renewed policy. Marketing materials cite differing eligible bonus ranges for this add-on across campaigns, so the exact threshold should be confirmed with the current offer.
