Genikes Insurance
Genikes Insurance is a motor third-party liability insurance for the CY market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Claims are handled directly by General Insurance of Cyprus Ltd. In the event of an accident the insured contacts the Company immediately from the scene, and the Company's authorised representative visits the scene to collect particulars. No admission or payment may be made without the written consent of the Company.
Geographic scope
CY
Third Party Liability: Cyprus (excluding areas where the Government of the Republic of Cyprus does not exercise effective control) and States signatory to Part III of the Unified Agreement. Vehicle cover (Section 2): Cyprus only (excluding uncontrolled areas).
Unique selling points
- Included cover for driving another private vehicle of the same type anywhere in Cyprus (up to age 75) — a benefit typically sold as a paid add-on by other Cyprus insurers.
- Free 24-hour Motor Assistance (roadside breakdown and accident care with on-site representative) is a standard inclusion across all Genikes Insurance motor plans at no extra cost.
- Windscreen/window glass cover up to €350 per period is included in the base plan without requiring a separate glass-only policy or additional premium.
- Off-road cover is a standard inclusion, extending Third Party Liability to use of the vehicle beyond public roads — competitors typically exclude or charge extra for this.
- Passengers' legal liability (Clause 10926) is included as standard, covering any passenger's third-party liability arising from the use of the vehicle — not a universal standard in the Cypriot MTPL market.
Coverage limits
Third Party Bodily Injury and Death Liability
Covered
Covers the legal liability of the Insured or any Authorised Driver to pay compensation for death or bodily injury caused to any person, including claimant's costs, interest and expenses, arising out of the use of the Motor Vehicle on a Road in Cyprus or in signatory states to Part III of the Unified Agreement.
Third Party Property Damage Liability
Covered
Covers the legal liability of the Insured or any Authorised Driver to pay compensation for damage to property caused to third parties arising out of the use of the Motor Vehicle on a Road in Cyprus or in signatory states to Part III of the Unified Agreement, including claimant's costs, interest and expenses.
Representation and Defence
Covered
The Company may, at its own expense and discretion, arrange for representation at any inquest or accident inquiry for any death, and undertake the defence of any legal proceedings in any Court of Law in respect of any act or alleged offence relating to any event covered under Section 1. No defined monetary limit is stated; this is a discretionary benefit at the Company's election.
Green Card / Cover Outside Cyprus
Covered
Third Party Liability cover is extended to the territory of any State outside Cyprus which is a signatory party to Section III of the Unified Agreement (Green Card system), providing the minimum limits of liability required by the corresponding legislation in force in the State where the incident occurs. Where the Policy's cover exceeds the local minimum, the higher amount applies. The Green Card certificate is issued free of charge upon request.
24-Hour Road Assistance and Accident Care
Covered
24-hour roadside assistance through a recognised company in Cyprus is provided as a standard included benefit under Additional Clause 10920 on all motor policies. Services include immediate telephone assistance, visit and guidance at the scene of the accident, and collection of evidence. Motor Vehicles over 5 tonnes are excluded. The Company bears no liability for the road assistance company's obligations.
Personal Accident Cover for Insured and/or Spouse
Optional
Optional add-on under Additional Clause 10922 covering bodily injury to the Insured and/or spouse caused by violent, accidental and external means in connection with the Motor Vehicle while driving, being carried, entering or alighting. Maximum aggregate benefit per event is €20,000, covering death, permanent disablement, loss of limbs/sight (scaled benefits), and medical expenses up to €1,000. Not applicable if the Insured is under 18 or over 70 years of age.
Public Liability of Motor Vehicle Passengers
Covered
Under Additional Clause 10926 (included in the Third Party Plus WEB plan), the Section 1 cover is extended to cover the legal liability of any person (other than the driver) who at the time of use of the Motor Vehicle is legally inside, getting into, or alighting from the vehicle. Exception (i) of Section 1 — which otherwise excludes passenger liability — is thereby deleted.
Key conditions
territorial_scope
Third Party Liability: Cyprus (excluding areas of the Republic of Cyprus where the Government does not exercise effective control) and States signatory to Part III of the Unified Agreement. The cover outside Cyprus equals the minimum limits required by the legislation of the State where the incident occurs. If the Policy limit exceeds the local minimum, the higher amount applies.
green_card_rules
The Policy provides cover in States signatory to Part III of the Unified Agreement (Green Card countries) at the minimum limits required by the respective national legislation. The Cyprus International Insurance Bureau and corresponding foreign bureaux agreements are acknowledged. The Insured must return the insurance certificate within 48 hours of any cancellation taking effect.
driver_restrictions
Coverage is void if the vehicle is driven by an Unauthorised Driver or used otherwise than in accordance with the Limitations as to Use. Additional Clause 10923 (if operative) excludes drivers under 25 or over 70 years of age, holders of a learner's licence, or drivers who have not held a full licence for at least two years — unless declared and approved by the Company. Cover for driving another vehicle (Clause 10914) terminates when the Insured reaches 75 years of age and is available only for private vehicles belonging to private individuals.
claim_notification_deadline
In the event of any incident that may give rise to a claim, the Insured must contact the Company immediately from the scene of the accident at the telephone number communicated via email. All letters, claims, writs, summonses and pleadings must be forwarded to the Company immediately upon receipt. In cases of accident, theft or criminal act, the Police must also be notified immediately. No claim is payable unless these notification conditions are met. In the event of prosecution or inquest, the Company must be informed immediately.
bonus_malus_rules
Cyprus does not operate a centralised statutory bonus-malus system for MTPL. Individual insurers apply their own merit-rating (No Claims Discount / loading) schemes at their discretion. For the Third Party Plus WEB online product, no NCD scale is applied at the online purchase stage; NCD adjustments are handled at the branch/broker level for eligible policies. Comprehensive cover products have published NCD tables, but third-party online plans use a fixed-rate structure for web sales.
