Pre-existing conditions (chronic disease)

Conditional

A pre-existing health condition (chronic illness) is covered only if it was stable for at least 4 months before the insurance effective date or before the purchase of the travel service (whichever is later), meaning no changes in treatment, no worsening, and no hospitalization during that period. Unstabilized chronic conditions are excluded except for first aid to stabilize a life-threatening situation. As of 2025, the stabilization period was reduced from 12 to 4 months.

Winter sports cover

Covered

Basic winter sports (skiing, snowboarding on marked trails, ice skating, cross-country skiing, biathlon, etc.) are automatically included in all policy types as part of the standard sports coverage. No additional premium is required. Organized winter sports competitions and training require the risk sports add-on. Off-piste skiing and snowboarding is classified as a risk sport requiring a separate add-on.

Optional

Risk sports and activities (e.g. flyboarding, mountain biking downhill, bungee jumping, rafting grade III-IV, combat sports, aerial sports, etc.) can be added as an optional add-on (Připojištění rizikových sportů a aktivit). Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In life-threatening situations, call local emergency services first, then the assistance service immediately. For hospitalization abroad, the assistance service must be contacted without undue delay immediately upon hospital admission (if health condition permits). Before surgery, complex diagnostic procedures (MRI, CT), physiotherapy, planned transport to another facility, or repatriation, prior approval from the assistance service is required. Medical costs incurred without prior assistance service approval may not be reimbursed except when the insured demonstrably could not reach the assistance service due to exceptional circumstances.

Unauthorized treatment

Medical costs incurred abroad without prior approval from the assistance service may be reduced or not reimbursed. The insurer reserves the right to reduce or deny indemnification if the insured does not follow the instructions of the assistance service, particularly for hospitalization, surgery, complex diagnostic examinations, physiotherapy, or medical transport.

Purchase while abroad

If the insurance is arranged while the insured is already abroad, a deferred effectiveness of 3 days applies — the insurance only covers events occurring from the 3rd day following the day of arrangement. This deferred effectiveness does not apply if the new policy immediately follows a previous travel insurance policy arranged with the same insurer, provided the premium was paid before the expiry of the previous policy.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases are covered only if the health condition was stable for at least 4 months before the insurance effective date or before the purchase of the travel service (whichever is later), meaning no changes in treatment, no worsening, and no hospitalization during that period. Only first aid to stabilize an immediately life-threatening chronic condition is covered if the stabilization criterion is not met. The stabilization period was reduced from 12 to 4 months effective 2025.

Pregnancy

Coverage for pregnancy-related medical expenses is available until the end of the 36th week of pregnancy (i.e. unexpected delivery before the start of the 37th week is covered as an acute medical event). Complications of normal pregnancy and delivery after the 36th week are excluded. High-risk pregnancy complications are excluded throughout. Fertility treatment, planned termination of pregnancy, and routine pregnancy check-ups are excluded. Ectopic pregnancy is covered as an exception.

pre_existing_conditions

Pre-existing health conditions are defined as any injury, illness or health condition existing 4 months before the insurance effective date or before the purchase of the travel service (whichever is later), which: (a) resulted in the person seeking medical examination, care or treatment; (b) caused symptoms; or (c) required the person to take medication prescribed by a physician (unless the condition or symptoms are managed by a previously prescribed medication that has not been changed). A condition does not need to be formally diagnosed to be considered a pre-existing condition.

coverage_duration_limit

Short-term policies: maximum trip duration 90 days. Annual policies: 365 days (366 in a leap year). Annual multi-trip (Multitrip): each individual trip abroad may last up to 60 days; after 60 consecutive days abroad, coverage ceases until a new departure from the Czech Republic. If return is delayed due to a covered event, the policy period is automatically extended until the earliest of: arrival at destination/home/country of residence, refusal of further travel, refusal of health repatriation after medical clearance, or arrival at a medical facility in the home country after repatriation.

Pre-existing chronic disease coverage — 4-month stabilization period

Chronic diseases are covered if stable for at least 4 months before insurance effective date or travel service purchase (whichever is later). The stabilization period was reduced from 12 to 4 months effective 2025 for the new Allianz Travel PLUS product.

24/7 Assistance services including Doktor Chat

Medical repatriation and transport coverage

Medical repatriation (return to home country or EU country after acute care) is covered up to the limit of the urgentní přeprava (urgent transport) section. All transport must be approved and arranged by the assistance service. Transfer to an EU country other than Czech Republic is permitted up to the cost of transfer to Czech Republic.

Chronic disease stabilization period

Minimum period during which a chronic illness must be stable before the insurance effective date (or travel service purchase, whichever is later) for coverage to apply. Currently 4 months for Allianz Travel PLUS (PP_072025). A health condition is considered stable if: no medical examination for diagnosis/follow-up care was sought; no symptoms were present; and no physician-prescribed medication was required (unless the condition is managed by a previously prescribed medication that has not been changed).

Pregnancy coverage limit

Emergency medical coverage for pregnancy complications and unexpected premature delivery is available until the end of the 36th week of pregnancy (i.e. delivery before the start of the 37th week). Coverage ends at the start of the 37th week. High-risk pregnancy is excluded throughout.

Maximum trip duration

Short-term policies: up to 90 days per trip. Annual policies: 365/366 days total. Annual multi-trip (Multitrip): up to 60 days per individual trip abroad; coverage ceases after 60 consecutive days abroad until a new departure from the Czech Republic.

Alcohol-related and substance-related exclusion

Claims for damages, injuries, or events occurring in connection with the consumption of alcohol or the application of narcotic, toxic, or psychotropic substances by the insured are excluded. In the case of accident insurance, applicable provisions of the Civil Code apply.

Pre-existing acute illness exclusion

Treatment for acute illnesses or injuries that existed before the departure date, and their complications, are not covered. Treatment for conditions known before the insurance effective date or before purchase of the travel service is excluded. Any condition meeting the definition of 'health condition before insurance effective date' (pre-existing condition) within 4 months prior to coverage start is excluded, even if not formally diagnosed.

Borrowed/rented items exclusion (liability)

Damage to or loss of items borrowed, loaned, or rented by the insured (including sports equipment, business equipment, vehicles, cameras, phones) is excluded from liability insurance. A separate optional add-on for rental vehicle excess (Připojištění pronajatého vozidla) covers the insured's contractually agreed excess for damage to a rental car.
