Direct payment

Through its assistance service, the insurer can guarantee direct payment/cost coverage to the treating medical facility abroad. For minor treatment the insured may also pay out of pocket and later claim reimbursement by submitting original receipts and a medical report.

Geographic scope

Europe, rest of world excluding USA/Canada ('Omezený svět'), or worldwide including USA/Canada ('Svět'), depending on the selected tariff

Cover applies to insured events occurring in the chosen zone: Europe (enumerated European states plus Egypt, Israel, Cyprus, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey); 'Omezený svět' = worldwide except USA and Canada (USA/Canada covered only for transfers up to 48 hours); 'Svět' = worldwide including USA and Canada. Cover excludes events in the Czech Republic, in states where the insured has public health insurance, or where free healthcare is available (except EU citizens within the EU).

Unique selling points

  • Insures both adrenaline sports (rafting, via ferrata) and extreme sports (mountaineering, freediving) as optional add-ons — a scope many competitors do not offer at all.
  • Unique 'Alkohol+' rider keeps medical and accident cover in force for incidents under the influence of alcohol up to 1‰ blood alcohol content, a situation most insurers exclude outright.
  • Top-tier E-TripMAX/W-TripMAX tariffs offer unlimited medical expense cover for Europe.
  • Dedicated 'Pojištění útoku predátora' rider pays up to 200,000 CZK for death and 100,000 CZK for permanent injury caused by an animal attack — a peril rarely insured separately.
  • Mountain rescue service intervention cover reaches up to 1,000,000 CZK, well above typical market minimums.

Pre-existing / chronic conditions

Conditional

Chronic illnesses are excluded unless 'stabilized' — i.e. the condition existed before the policy began but its status in the 12 months preceding the start of cover did not suggest a need for medical help during the trip. Treatment of an illness treated in the 3 months before departure is also excluded, except for unforeseeable urgent care to save life or relieve acute pain.

24/7 assistance service

Covered

No limit stated

The sources describe an assistance service (technical vehicle assistance operated by ÚAMK a.s., and a medical/travel assistance partner) but do not explicitly state that it operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the assistance service without undue delay in the event of hospitalization or the need for transport, transfer, transport of remains, or arranging an escort — the terms do not specify a fixed number of hours.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured fails to contact the assistance service as required, or a companion/replacement worker takes actions relating to hospitalization, transport or repatriation without prior approval of the assistance service, the insurer may refuse or reduce the benefit. Transport by air ambulance not previously agreed with the assistance service (outside a genuine emergency) is also excluded.

Purchase while abroad

Insurance can only be arranged before starting the trip it is meant to cover. If the insured is already abroad, a new policy can only be arranged if it directly follows an existing SV pojišťovna travel policy. For the USA&CAN-Trip tariff specifically, the policy cannot be arranged at all if the insured is already abroad.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases are excluded from cover, except 'stabilized' chronic conditions — i.e. ones that existed before the policy started but whose status in the preceding 12 months gave no indication that medical help would be needed during the trip.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy, childbirth and post-natal pain and their consequences are excluded, except for complications in pregnancy and premature births where the life of the mother or child is at risk, which are covered as necessary emergency treatment.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Treatment of an illness that was treated in the 3 months before departure is excluded, unless it is unforeseeable, urgently necessary care to save life, relieve severe pain, or address a worsening of an illness that does not normally prevent travel.

Coverage duration limit

Insurance is arranged for a fixed term, maximum one year. If the term exceeds 180 days, a further one-off policy may only be arranged 30 days after the previous term ends. Single-trip duration is capped at 60 days for the E-TravelMAX/W-TravelMAX annual multi-trip tariffs and at 30 days for E-Card/W-Card and USA&CAN-Trip. If medical treatment abroad continues after the policy ends and the insured is not fit to travel, cover continues for up to a further 90 days.
