Direct payment

Premiums can be paid annually or monthly via Betalingsservice (direct debit) or payment card/giro; payment must be made by the due date shown on the invoice, otherwise a reminder fee and interest apply and cover may lapse.

Geographic scope

Europe and Green Card countries

Covers Europe and non-European countries participating in the international Green Card motor insurance scheme; if kørsel abroad is covered by another policy, this cover applies only subsidiarily.

Unique selling points

  • Get a 15% discount when you calculate and buy your car insurance online.
  • The premium is fixed and does not automatically increase after a single claim.
  • 'Friskade' claims (fire, lightning, explosion, theft, robbery, serial vandalism) with Kasko cover cost no deductible and do not push you up a price step.
  • Extended Glass cover lets you repair chipped windscreens with zero deductible instead of paying the standard glass excess.
  • The 'Ung Fører' feature lets resident children build up no-claims seniority on their parents' policy and avoids the standard under-25 Kasko deductible surcharge.

Coverage limits

Bodily injury liability

Covered

Covers the policyholder's legal liability for bodily injury caused to third parties when the insured car is used, with the statutory sums set by the Danish Traffic Act (færdselsloven); the sums are stated in the individual policy and at least the Danish statutory minimums apply in Green Card countries.

Source

Property damage liability

Covered

Covers the policyholder's legal liability for damage to third parties' property or vehicles caused when the insured car (or an attached trailer, if the car is registered with a tow hook) is used, with the statutory sums set by the Danish Traffic Act.

Claims-cost and interest cover within liability

Covered

In addition to compensation paid to third parties, the liability cover pays costs related to the compensation case and any interest on the compensation amount, even where this means the insured sum is exceeded. A separate Legal Expenses Insurance (Retshjælpsforsikring) covering up to 225,000 DKK for legal costs in civil disputes is also available, but only applies if Kasko or Delkasko cover is included on the policy.

Green Card coverage

Covered

The liability insurance is valid throughout Europe and in non-European countries that participate in the international Green Card motor insurance scheme, applying at least the Danish statutory sums.

Source

Alm. Brand Roadside Assistance

Optional

Optional add-on providing vehicle assistance (e.g. starthjælp, wheel change, lock-out help, fuel delivery, towing/recovery) and transport of driver and passengers, covering Denmark (excluding Greenland and the Faroe Islands) and, with reduced terms, the rest of Europe. No monetary cap is stated in the source, but only one assistance is covered per breakdown/accident and transport between workshops is excluded.

Source

Driver accident insurance (Førerulykke)

Optional

Optional cover paying compensation for permanent injury (varigt mén) to the driver, or to the driver's spouse/cohabiting partner on death, following a single-vehicle accident where no liable third party, liability insurer or similar scheme covers the loss. The cover sum for 100% disability is stated in the individual policy and index-adjusted annually. An 'Extended Driver Accident' (Udvidet Førerulykke) variant additionally covers treatment costs, loss of earnings, pain and suffering, loss of earning capacity and death/dependants' benefits.

Passenger accident insurance

Not offered

Not addressed as a distinct cover in the reviewed sources. The Driver Accident cover (Førerulykke) explicitly protects only the driver of the insured or a borrowed car (and the driver's spouse/partner in case of death); injured passengers would instead be compensated as third parties under the liability cover if the driver is at fault.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

The insurance covers Europe and non-European countries participating in the Green Card scheme; if separate cover exists for driving abroad, this policy applies only subsidiarily (i.e., if the other insurance does not pay).

Green card rules

The list of Green Card countries is published at almbrand.dk/groentkort. In Green Card countries the policy pays according to that country's own law, but at least with the sums that apply for driving in Denmark; in all other countries the Danish sums apply directly.

Driver restrictions

Drivers under 25 face a minimum Kasko deductible of 6,324 DKK (2019 index) regardless of the policy's normal deductible, unless the policyholder is a business and the driver is an employee or owner of it. Cover is void for driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicine, or without a valid driving licence (except learner drivers during a driving test). The optional 'Ung Fører' feature lets resident children build no-claims seniority and avoids the extra under-25 deductible when they drive the car.

Claim notification deadline

All claims must be reported to Alm. Brand as soon as possible via almbrand.dk/anmeldskade or by phone on 35 47 35 00; theft, robbery and vandalism must also be reported to the police immediately.

Bonus-malus rules

The premium is fixed and does not automatically rise after a claim, though Alm. Brand may review whether the price matches the risk. Claim-free drivers move down one price step each year until reaching the cheapest 'elite' step, where they remain even after a claim. On other steps, a claim keeps the driver on the same step for one extra year, except for 'friskade' events (fire, lightning, explosion, theft, robbery, serial vandalism or falling objects with Kasko cover), glass-only claims under Extended Glass cover, damage occurring at a workshop/dealer that is itself insured on the policy, damage after a change of ownership, or damage caused by a known, liable third party.
