Coverage is conditional on acute onset during travel.
SourcePre-existing / chronic conditions
Conditional
Chronic conditions or conditions present before departure from Denmark are generally excluded (clause 2.3.6). However, a stable chronic condition may be covered if: no hospitalization, non-routine medical treatment, or treatment changes occurred within the last 2 months before departure; and a medical pre-assessment (medicinsk forhåndsvurdering) is obtained no earlier than 2 months before departure and does not indicate possible deterioration during travel. The pre-assessment determines whether full, partial, or no coverage applies.

Conditional
Skiing and snowboarding on prepared slopes within a ski resort area are covered under the standard policy for injury (clause 3.4). Off-piste skiing and snowboarding are explicitly excluded (clause 2.3.4). Medical assistance and childbirth where the need arises after the eighth month of pregnancy is explicitly excluded (IPID clause). Assistance call deadline
For acute serious illness, serious injury, or hospitalization, contact SOS International immediately (+45 38 48 91 81 / +45 70 10 50 50 or sos@sos.eu). If home transport is not arranged by Alm. Brand/SOS, reimbursement is capped at what Alm. Brand would have incurred had it arranged the transport. For non-emergency claims, report to Alm. Brand as soon as possible via almbrand.dk or telephone 35 47 47 47.
Unauthorized treatment
If treatment abroad is deemed unnecessary by Alm. Brand/SOS and can await return home, no coverage is provided for continued hospitalization or treatment. If the insured refuses to be transported home when both the treating physician and Alm. Brand/SOS have decided repatriation should take place, no further treatment coverage is provided. Expenses resulting from non-compliance with physician or Alm. Brand/SOS instructions are not covered.
Purchase while abroad
The travel insurance cannot be purchased after the start of the trip. Coverage commences when the insured leaves home to begin the journey. The annual (løbende 1-årig) policy must be active before departure; coverage for specific trips is defined by the policy period. An exception exists: if the cancellation add-on is purchased, it must be bought and paid for at the same time as the trip is booked.
Chronic conditions
Chronic conditions are only covered if they can be characterised as stable (no hospitalisation, non-routine treatment, or treatment changes within the last 2 months before departure) and a medical pre-assessment (medicinsk forhåndsvurdering) has been obtained from SOS International no earlier than 2 months before departure. The pre-assessment determines whether full, partial, or no coverage applies. Pre-assessments are available at sos.eu/selvbetjening or almbrand.dk.
Pregnancy
Acute pregnancy complications and medical emergencies in pregnancy are covered as acute illness up to the end of the eighth month of pregnancy. Medical assistance and childbirth where the need arises after the eighth month of pregnancy are explicitly excluded.
pre_existing_conditions
Pre-existing conditions (conditions present before departure from Denmark) are excluded unless the condition is stable as defined by clause 2.3.6 (no hospitalisation, non-routine medical treatment, or treatment changes in the last 2 months), and a medical pre-assessment has been obtained. The pre-assessment determines the level of coverage (full, partial, or none).
coverage_duration_limit
For annual (løbende 1-årig) policies, coverage applies to trips of up to 60 days duration. If a trip exceeds 60 days, only the first 60 days are covered. If a covered insurance event occurs, the policy automatically extends beyond 60 days until medically safe repatriation can occur. Replacement trip and ruined holiday day compensation are not available for trips exceeding 60 days.
