Aros Forsikring - Gensidigt Forsikringsselskab
Aros Forsikring
Aros Forsikring is a travel insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
In case of hospitalisation abroad, Aros/SOS International arranges and approves further treatment, transfer and repatriation directly with the treating hospital; costs not pre-approved by SOS may be refused, and self-arranged travel home without SOS approval is reimbursed only up to what SOS-arranged transport would have cost.
Geographic scope
Europe or Worldwide (policyholder selects coverage area)
Europe coverage includes geographic Europe, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, the UK, Ireland, Malta, the Canary Islands, Azores and Madeira, the European and Asian parts of Turkey, both parts of Cyprus, Russia up to the Urals, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, but excludes overseas islands, departments and colonies of European countries; Worldwide cover applies if selected on the policy.
Unique selling points
- Aros is a customer-owned insurer with no shareholders, so surplus is returned to customers as better cover and service rather than profit.
- Policyholders get access to Danish-speaking online doctor consultations around the clock if they fall ill or are injured on holiday.
- 24/7/365 emergency assistance is provided via SOS International's alarm centre in Copenhagen.
- Standard 60-day trip cover can be flexibly extended up to 180 days, letting customers buy only the extra days they actually need.
- Customers who bundle at least 3 insurance products with Aros receive a 10% discount and pay only one deductible per claim across combined policies.
Coverage limits
Medical expenses abroad
DKK 25,000,000
Covers reasonable and necessary costs abroad for treatment by an authorised doctor and doctor-prescribed medicine, as part of a combined per-trip ceiling of DKK 25,000,000 shared across treatment and repatriation costs.
Emergency medical treatment
DKK 25,000,000
Covers treatment following acute illness or injury arising during the trip, within the same combined DKK 25,000,000 per-trip ceiling for treatment and transport.
Hospitalisation
DKK 25,000,000
Hospital stays following acute illness or injury are covered, including hotel/meals if ambulant treatment can substitute for admission, within the shared DKK 25,000,000 per-trip ceiling.
Outpatient treatment
DKK 25,000,000
Hotel and subsistence costs are covered when treatment that would otherwise require hospitalisation can instead be carried out on an outpatient basis, within the shared DKK 25,000,000 per-trip ceiling.
Emergency dental treatment
DKK 30,000
Covers reasonable and necessary acute pain-relieving dental treatment that cannot wait until return to Denmark, up to DKK 30,000 per person; specialist treatment (e.g. crown/root canal) requires prior SOS approval.
Medical transport
DKK 25,000,000
Covers ambulance transport from the place of illness/accident to the treatment site and onward transport to/from the nearest suitable facility, within the shared DKK 25,000,000 per-trip ceiling.
Medical repatriation/evacuation to Denmark
DKK 25,000,000
Covers transport to Denmark by ordinary means, ambulance or air ambulance in case of acute illness, injury or death; SOS International selects and arranges the mode of transport, within the shared DKK 25,000,000 per-trip ceiling.
Repatriation of remains
DKK 25,000,000
In case of death abroad, transport to Denmark is covered (mode chosen by SOS), within the shared DKK 25,000,000 per-trip ceiling; a death certificate must be sent to Aros immediately after return.
Search and rescue
DKK 150,000
Covers necessary costs of searching for the insured (up to 14 days within a 50 km radius of the last known location) and rescue/pick-up once located, up to DKK 150,000 per event; a 10% deductible (min. DKK 2,500) applies, and the person must have been reported missing for at least 24 hours and seen within the last 120 hours.
COVID-19 treatment
No limit stated
The T&C do not separately name COVID-19; general acute-illness cover under Sygdom/tilskadekomst would apply, and epidemic-driven evacuation is covered under Evakuering, but no specific COVID-19 clause was found.
Pre-existing / chronic conditions
Conditional
Treatment of chronic or pre-existing illnesses that caused hospitalisation, medical assessment or changed medication within the 2 months before departure is excluded by default; cover depends on completing a medical pre-travel assessment (§6.1) confirming eligibility.
Ski holiday – ruined holiday-days replacement
Optional
An optional add-on covering compensation for ruined holiday-days (per the standard 'ruined holiday days' formula) if a started ski holiday of at least 5 days is disrupted in its first half due to hospitalisation, prescribed bed rest, recall home or accompanying a sick travel companion; simply being unable to ski is not sufficient.
Adventure sports
Excluded
The policy explicitly excludes damage arising directly or indirectly from mountaineering, climbing, expeditions, parachute jumping and paragliding.
Pregnancy complications
No limit stated
No specific pregnancy-complications clause was found in the T&C; general acute-illness cover may apply subject to the chronic/pre-existing condition rules.
Liability for damage to rented holiday accommodation
DKK 2,000,000
This policy's only liability cover is for damage the insured causes, as a private individual, to inventory or building parts of a rented holiday home/hotel room/tent/mobile home/caravan in their care, up to DKK 2,000,000 per event; it is not a general personal (bodily injury/property damage to third parties) liability cover.
Legal assistance / legal costs
No limit stated
No legal-costs cover was found. A separate 'Sikkerhedsstillelse' (bail-bond) cover of up to DKK 250,000 exists as an interest-free loan to release the insured/belongings from detention, but it explicitly excludes court/arbitration cases and criminal proceedings, so it is not legal-expenses cover.
24/7 emergency assistance
Covered
SOS International's emergency centre in Copenhagen can be contacted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at +45 3848 9460 for acute illness, injury or other travel emergencies; a Danish-speaking online doctor service is also available around the clock.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
Claims must be reported immediately to Aros, and in cases of hospitalisation the further treatment, transfer or repatriation must be pre-approved by SOS International; unapproved transport may not be covered.
Unauthorized treatment
If the insured travels home on their own without SOS approval and SOS did not arrange the transport, the policy only reimburses up to the amount that SOS-arranged transport would have cost.
Purchase while abroad
Not addressed in the T&C; the policy is structured as an annual cover taken out before travel begins, and a trip cannot be cancelled once it has started, implying the policy is expected to be in force before departure.
Chronic conditions
A chronic illness is defined as one that has lasted, or is expected to last, longer than six months and requires ongoing medical supervision or treatment; treatment of chronic illnesses that caused hospitalisation, medical assessment or changed medication within 2 months before departure is excluded unless a medical pre-travel assessment confirms cover.
Pregnancy
Not specifically addressed in the T&C.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Coverage of pre-existing/chronic conditions depends on completing a medical pre-travel assessment (via www.sos.eu) within 2 months before paying for or departing on the trip if the condition has worsened; a positive assessment leads to full cover under the terms, a negative one may mean partial or no cover.
Coverage duration limit
Trips are covered for up to 60 days per journey by default (automatically extended up to 48 hours for delayed return, or longer if hospitalised); coverage can be extended as a separate policy up to a total of 180 days.
