Codan Forsikring A/S
Codan
Codan is a travel insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Treatment and transport must be arranged in agreement with SOS International, who decides how and when treatment or repatriation should take place. If you pay for treatment or interrupt your holiday without a prior agreement with Codan or SOS International, you risk having to pay all costs yourself, unless SOS International later assesses that there was medical justification for the treatment, interruption, or repatriation.
Geographic scope
Europe or Worldwide, as selected by the policyholder; Denmark is always included regardless of choice
Under the Europe option, cover applies to a defined list of European countries (including e.g. Turkey, Russia up to the Ural, the Faroe Islands and Greenland); under the Worldwide option cover applies globally. Travel within Denmark requires at least one overnight stay to be covered.
Unique selling points
- Choose 30, 60 or 90 days of cover per trip on the annual policy, longer than the typical 30-day limit offered elsewhere.
- Domestic travel in Denmark is always covered regardless of whether Europe or Worldwide cover is chosen.
- 24-hour emergency assistance is provided directly by SOS International on a dedicated hotline.
- A single annual policy can cover the whole household, including partners, children, foster children and exchange students living with the policyholder.
- Flexible optional add-ons (baggage/liability/legal assistance, ski and snowboard cover, cancellation cover) let customers tailor protection beyond the base policy.

Conditional
An existing illness or injury is only covered if it has been in a stable, good phase for at least two months before departure; otherwise a binding advance medical assessment (forhåndsvurdering) must be obtained from SOS International via sos.eu before travel.

Unauthorized treatment
If you pay for treatment, transport, or other assistance without a prior agreement with Codan or SOS International, you risk having to pay all costs yourself, unless SOS International later assesses that there was medical justification for it.
Purchase while abroad
Not specified in the reviewed terms and conditions; coverage generally requires the policy to be in force before you leave your permanent residence to start the trip.
Chronic conditions
Chronic or existing illnesses are only covered if they have been in a stable, good phase for at least two months before departure, or if you have obtained a binding advance medical assessment (forhåndsvurdering) from SOS International via sos.eu.
Pregnancy
Trip cancellation is covered if your doctor advises against travel due to pregnancy-related risks (e.g. risk of premature birth); no separate medical-treatment benefit for pregnancy complications is stated.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
A pre-existing illness or injury not in a stable phase for two months before booking/departure is excluded unless a prior medical assessment from SOS International approves cover for that condition.
