Unique selling points
- Annual travel insurance allows a flexible choice of maximum trip duration: 30, 60 or 90 days per trip, giving policyholders options beyond a standard 30-day per-trip limit.
- Comprehensive household coverage is included as standard, extending to the policyholder's spouse, cohabiting partner, home-dwelling children, foster children and au pairs registered at the same address.
- Round-the-clock emergency assistance is provided by SOS International (+45 33 55 23 25), which coordinates all medical decisions, transport and evacuation on the insurer's behalf.
- The base policy includes extended terror coverage, paying extra return travel costs if the destination experiences a bombing or chemical/biological attack within 10 km of the insured's accommodation.
- Pre-existing condition coverage can be extended beyond the standard two-month stability rule through a free online pre-approval assessment at sos.eu, with the approval binding on Codan.

COVID-19 treatment
Conditional
COVID-19 is treated as any other acute illness under the policy and is covered if it constitutes an acute new illness arising during the trip. However, coverage is excluded for entry into a country or area where there is an epidemic requiring medical treatment (directly or indirectly). The policy does not explicitly mention COVID-19 by name.
Pre-existing conditions
Conditional
Pre-existing conditions are covered if they have been in a stable, good phase for at least two months prior to departure. If not stable, a pre-approval (forhåndsgodkendelse) from SOS International is required. Chronic conditions that were not stable are excluded. Routine check-up costs and medication to keep a chronic condition stable are explicitly excluded.
Winter sports cover (ski and snowboard add-on)
Optional
Injuries from skiing or snowboarding are only covered if the optional 'Skitillæg inklusive snowboard' add-on has been purchased. Without the add-on, ski and snowboard injuries are explicitly excluded from the base policy.
Adventure sports / professional sport exclusion
Excluded
The policy explicitly excludes injuries from professional sports (defined as earning DKK 50,000+ annually), mountaineering, expeditions, and big game hunting. General leisure sports and non-professional activities are covered as part of the base medical coverage.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Acute complications arising during pregnancy are covered under the general acute illness provision, provided the pregnancy was not symptomatic before departure and was in a stable phase. The policy does not state an explicit gestational age limit for travel medical coverage. Cancellation due to pregnancy complications is covered under the optional cancellation add-on.

Optional
Available as part of the optional 'Bagage, Ansvar og Retshjælp' add-on. Covers legal liability for personal injury up to DKK 10,000,000 per claim and property damage up to DKK 2,000,000 per claim arising during the trip. Only applies if no other insurance covers the liability.
Legal assistance
Optional
Available as part of the optional 'Bagage, Ansvar og Retshjælp' add-on. Covers legal costs for certain private civil disputes arising during the trip, up to DKK 225,000 per case. Only applies if no other insurance covers the costs.
24/7 emergency assistance
Covered
24-hour emergency assistance is provided via SOS International at +45 33 55 23 25. SOS International coordinates all medical treatment, transport, and evacuation decisions. Codan's general customer service is available at +45 33 55 55 55 for non-emergency claims reporting.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
You must contact SOS International before starting any form of treatment or transport during the trip. Treatment and transport paid without prior agreement with Codan or SOS International is at your own risk, unless SOS International subsequently determines there was medical justification.
Unauthorized treatment
If you pay for treatment or interrupt your holiday without prior agreement with Codan or SOS International, you risk having to pay all costs yourself, unless SOS International subsequently confirms medical justification for the treatment, trip interruption or home transport.
Purchase while abroad
The policy is purchased before departure and covers the period stated in the policy. The coverage becomes effective for a single trip when you leave your home to start the journey and ends when you return home.
Chronic conditions
Chronic conditions or conditions that were present before departure are not covered. Coverage is available for an acutely worsened pre-existing condition if the condition was stable for at least two months before departure or if a pre-approval has been obtained from SOS International. Routine control visits and medication to maintain a chronic condition stable are not covered.
Pregnancy
Acute pregnancy complications are covered as an acute illness if the pregnancy was not symptomatic before departure and was in a stable phase. The cancellation add-on explicitly covers situations where a doctor advises against travel due to pregnancy complications, including risk of premature birth.
pre_existing_conditions
Pre-existing conditions are covered only if they have been in a stable, good phase for at least two months before departure, defined as no changes, developments or periodic worsening, no extra doctor visits beyond routine check-ups, no adjustment of treatment or medication, and no planned further investigations or hospitalisation. If not stable, a medical pre-approval from SOS International is required via sos.eu before departure.
coverage_duration_limit
For annual travel insurance: the policyholder selects a maximum trip duration of 30, 60 or 90 days per trip at the time of purchase. If a trip lasts longer than the chosen coverage period, coverage applies only up to the agreed period. For single-trip insurance, the coverage period is as stated in the policy.
