Federation of Danish Motorists (FDM)
FDM Forsikring
FDM Forsikring is a travel insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Before diagnostic tests or treatment start (except acute and urgent treatment), approval must be obtained from Tryg Alarm or Tryg Doctor Hotline; Tryg Alarm can then provide a guarantee or send payment directly to the hospital or treating doctor.

Europe includes the geographic Europe, Faroe Islands, Greenland, UK, Ireland, Malta, Canary Islands, Azores, Madeira, Turkey and Cyprus, plus Russia up to the Ural Mountains, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan; overseas territories/departments of European countries are excluded. - Policyholders can choose a per-trip coverage length of 30, 60 or 90 days to match their travel pattern.
Coverage limits
Medical treatment abroad
Covered
Covers doctor and hospital stays, including medicine and operations, in connection with illness or injury occurring during the trip. The exact sum insured is specified in the individual policy agreement (forsikringsaftale), not in the general terms.
Emergency medical treatment
Covered
Covers acute illness or injury that arises suddenly during the trip and did not show symptoms before departure; also covers acute worsening of an existing illness if the insured has not been ill within 2 months before departure or has obtained a medical pre-approval. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Hospitalization
Covered
Hospital stays due to covered illness or injury during the trip are covered under Treatment Abroad; the coverage period is extended automatically if the return trip is delayed because the insured is hospitalized. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Outpatient treatment
Covered
Covers treatment related to a covered illness or injury by a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath or zone therapist. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Emergency dental treatment
Covered
Covers acute dental treatment to reduce the scope of the damage, e.g. acute pain relief or treatment, when related to a covered event. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Medical/sick transport
Covered
Covers ambulance or local transport to and from the nearest suitable hospital/treatment site, plus transport back home, when a covered illness, injury or death occurs; also covers a medically prescribed escort if the insured cannot travel alone. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Evacuation
Covered
Covers extra transport, accommodation and meal costs to be evacuated to the home country or an equivalent location when Danish authorities recommend evacuation, or Tryg assesses evacuation is needed due to war, terrorism, natural disaster or epidemic that arose after arrival. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Repatriation of remains
Covered
In the event of death, covers costs of urn or coffin transport, including legally required measures. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Search and rescue
Covered
Covers costs for search within a radius of 50 km from where the insured was last seen, and rescue costs once the location has been established. Excludes search/rescue in Arctic areas of Canada, Russia and Alaska. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Covid-19 treatment
No limit stated
The terms and conditions do not include a specific named Covid-19 treatment clause; only rules on Covid-related vaccination/quarantine requirements affecting trip cancellation are addressed (section 17.2).
Pre-existing conditions
Conditional
Worsening during the trip of an existing or chronic illness is only covered if a medical pre-approval has been obtained, or if the insured has not been ill within 2 months before departure. A medical pre-assessment (electronic test) determines whether the condition is fully, partly, or not covered.
Winter sports cover
Covered
Medical treatment for injuries sustained during any sport, including sports normally considered dangerous (e.g. skiing), is covered as standard. Compensation for ruined vacation days/replacement trip specifically due to a ski/snowboard injury during an 'active trip' requires the optional 'Ødelagt aktiv rejse' (ruined active trip) add-on, only in effect if stated in the policy agreement.
Adventure/dangerous sports cover
Covered
All forms of sport, including those normally considered dangerous sports, are covered for medical treatment as standard. Trip-disruption compensation for an 'active trip' (e.g. diving, trekking, cycling holidays) requires the optional 'Ødelagt aktiv rejse' add-on. Professional sport and polar expeditions are excluded entirely.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Pregnancy-related illness/injury is covered as ordinary acute illness, but the policy explicitly excludes birth occurring after week 35 of pregnancy (i.e. 5 weeks before the due date); provoked abortion, sterilization and sterility examinations/treatment are also excluded.
Personal liability
Covered
Covers the insured as a private individual causing personal injury or property damage and thereby incurring liability; excludes liability from use of motor vehicles or boats, damage to items in the insured's care, or liability assumed under contract beyond ordinary Danish tort law. Sum insured is in the policy agreement.
Legal assistance
Covered
Covers legal aid costs if the insured has sought assistance from a lawyer who has taken on the case, following the terms of Tryg's Legal Aid Insurance (with deviations, e.g. only covering disputes arising during the trip). Sum insured is in the policy agreement; a special deductible applies per Tryg's Legal Aid terms.
24/7 emergency assistance
Covered
Tryg Alarm provides round-the-clock access to doctors and trained health/assistance staff for immediate help, e.g. hospitalization due to illness or injury; calls to and from Tryg Alarm are free. The Tryg Doctor Hotline app additionally offers video consultation with a Danish doctor while abroad.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
There is no fixed hour-based call-in deadline; instead, diagnostics/treatment (except acute and urgent treatment) must be approved by Tryg Alarm or Tryg Doctor Hotline before it begins.
Unauthorized treatment
Costs for home transport or home recall that have not been approved in advance by Tryg's doctor/Tryg Alarm are not covered.
Purchase while abroad
The terms and conditions do not address purchasing or activating this policy while the insured is already abroad.
Chronic conditions
A chronic disease is one that has lasted, or is expected to last, longer than six months and requires ongoing medical control/treatment. If a chronic condition has worsened, required extra medical control, or changed treatment/medication within 2 months before paying for the trip or before departure, a medical pre-approval is required for full cover.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy-related acute illness/injury is covered like ordinary illness, but the insurance explicitly excludes birth that occurs after week 35 of pregnancy (5 weeks before the due date).
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Coverage for treatment abroad or trip cancellation requires a medical pre-approval if the insured has an existing/chronic condition that could worsen on the trip; without pre-approval, worsening of an existing condition during the trip is not covered unless the insured has not been ill within 2 months before departure.
Coverage duration limit
The insured selects a coverage duration of 30, 60 or 90 days per individual trip (as stated in the policy agreement); this period is automatically extended by up to 48 hours if the return is delayed through no fault of the insured, and further extended if the return is delayed due to hospitalization.
