Search and rescue
Excluded
Search and rescue is not among the benefits listed in the coverage schedule; the T&Cs state that damages or situations not explicitly listed are not covered.
COVID-19 treatment
DKK 25,000,000
Pre-existing conditions
Conditional
Chronic or existing conditions that are not stable are not covered by default. Coverage depends on obtaining a medical pre-approval (forhåndsgodkendelse) via SOS International before the trip, which can result in unconditional approval, approval with a clause/exclusion, or rejection.
Winter sports cover
Optional
Only in Skisport
Skiing/snowboarding-related treatment, transport, replacement holiday and related benefits are only covered if the optional 'Skisport' add-on has been purchased; otherwise injuries directly or indirectly caused by skiing/snowboarding are excluded from the main benefits.
Adventure/extreme sports cover
Excluded
The policy excludes damage that is a direct or indirect result of the insured's participation in professional sport, mountain climbing, expeditions, or parachute jumping.
Pregnancy complications
DKK 2,500,000
There is no dedicated pregnancy exclusion clause; acute illness/injury cover under point 19.1 (part of the DKK 2,500,000 combined cap) applies, and the policy additionally names a specific benefit for treatment of a premature baby born more than 4 weeks before term.
Personal liability abroad
DKK 10,000,000
Covers claims against the insured for personal injury (up to DKK 10,000,000) and property damage (up to DKK 5,000,000) occurring abroad, capped at DKK 10,000,000 combined. This benefit (point 19.20) is disapplied if the policyholder has an in-force contents insurance ('indboforsikring') with the insurer at the time of the claim — which is otherwise a mandatory precondition of holding this travel policy — except that the DKK 3,000 contents-insurance-excess benefit under 19.18.A.c still applies.
Legal assistance
DKK 100,000
Covers reasonable legal-assistance costs for disputes arising on the trip and criminal cases abroad (with sub-limits and excesses), up to DKK 100,000. This benefit (point 19.19) is disapplied if the policyholder has an in-force contents insurance with the insurer at the time of the claim, which is otherwise a mandatory precondition of holding this travel policy.
24/7 assistance
Covered
SOS International operates a 24-hour assistance centre that can be contacted for help while abroad, including liaison with local doctors/hospitals, booking emergency transport, and arranging interim compensation payments; calls to/from the assistance centre in connection with a covered incident are covered by the policy.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
A claim must be reported to SOS International as soon as possible; for acute help abroad, the 24-hour helpline (+45 38 48 92 92) is available, and the insured must follow the instructions given by SOS International.
Unauthorized treatment
Costs are not covered for continued foreign treatment/hospitalization if the assessing doctor and the treating doctor agree the insured could safely be transported home but the insured refuses, or if the insured does not follow the instructions of the assessing/treating doctor.
Purchase while abroad
The annual travel insurance must be purchased before departure from Denmark; it cannot be taken out once already travelling.
Chronic conditions
Chronic or unstable existing conditions are only covered if a medical pre-approval is obtained via SOS International's online tool before departure (or before booking, for the cancellation cover); this can lead to unconditional approval, approval with a clause, or rejection.
Pregnancy
The T&Cs do not contain a specific pregnancy exclusion; ordinary acute-illness cover under point 19.1 applies, and treatment of a premature baby born more than 4 weeks before term is specifically named as covered.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
As a rule, chronic/existing conditions that are not in a stable phase (defined as no hospitalisation, medication change, extra doctor visits, referral, deterioration, missed check-up, stopped/refused treatment, or known treatment need in the last 2 months) are not covered unless a medical pre-approval has been obtained.
Coverage duration limit
Standard cover applies for trips up to 30 days; extension to 60 days is available as an add-on only for the Årsrejse Verden (worldwide) tier. The annual policy itself covers an unlimited number of trips per year for the whole household.
