Gjensidige
Gjensidige is a travel insurance for the Denmark market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Gjensidige provides direct on-site assistance and claims handling during the trip so claims can be fully or partly settled while still travelling; final claims settlement takes place after returning home.

Selectable: Europe (incl. Turkey) or Worldwide
Europe cover includes the geographic Europe up to the Urals, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, the Azores, the Canary Islands and Madeira. Worldwide cover excludes expeditions to the Arctic, Antarctic, Himalayas and Greenland, and travel to war zones. Limited cover also applies within Denmark (crisis/psychology help, vehicle repatriation, recall, transport/baggage delay, replacement trip, holiday compensation, holiday accommodation cover).

- Rental car damage deductible is covered up to 15,000 DKK if the rented car is damaged.
- 24/7 access to Danish-speaking doctors, nurses and crisis psychologists via the Travel Assistance line.
- Direct on-site claims assistance during the trip rather than a reimbursement-only model after returning home.
- A free medical pre-assessment is offered before departure for travellers with chronic or recently diagnosed conditions to clarify coverage.

Covers doctor-ordered medicine, treatment and hospital stay, physiotherapy/chiropractic and dental treatment for acute illness or injury on the trip, up to the sum shown on the policy.
Emergency medical treatment
Covered
Acute and necessary treatment of illness or injury arising unexpectedly on the trip, including psychological crisis help on-site, up to the policy sum.
Hospitalization
Covered
Hospital admission and stay for acute illness or injury is covered, including hotel/food/local transport after discharge until return travel is possible, up to the policy sum.
Outpatient treatment
Covered
If treatment that would otherwise require hospitalization can instead be carried out on an outpatient basis, related costs are covered up to the policy sum.
Emergency dental treatment
Covered
Treatment by a dentist for acute dental problems on the trip is covered up to the sum shown on the policy.
Medical transport
Covered
Ambulance/medical transport to and from the place of treatment is covered as a necessary extra expense.
Medical/security evacuation
Covered
Evacuation recommended by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Danish embassy or similar, or assessed by the insurer as unsafe to remain, is covered for reasonable and necessary extra transport expenses; detention after agreed evacuation is covered for up to 3 months.
Repatriation of remains
Covered
In case of death, statutory repatriation measures are covered, or alternatively cremation/burial on-site at the request of relatives.
Search and rescue
Covered
Search and rescue of the insured if reported missing is covered for reasonable and necessary costs, limited to the sum shown on the policy. Excludes search/rescue by bodies that normally work voluntarily/unpaid, and kidnapping/hijacking.
COVID-19 treatment
No limit stated
No specific COVID-19 provision is stated in the T&C or IPID; COVID-19 would fall under the general acute-illness medical expenses cover, but no dedicated clause was found.
Pre-existing conditions
Conditional
Acute and necessary treatment of a chronic condition is covered if the need for treatment could not be foreseen before departure. Cover is excluded if, within the last 2 months before departure, the condition led to hospitalization, non-routine doctor visits, or changed medication. A free pre-travel medical assessment can confirm coverage.
Winter sports cover
Covered
Acute illness or injury requiring treatment while on an active/ski holiday is covered under both Europe and Worldwide options; compensation for a ruined active holiday (e.g. unable to continue skiing) requires the separate 'Ruined active holiday' add-on under the current terms.
Adventure/extreme sports cover
Excluded
The policy does not cover costs arising from participation in expeditions to unexplored/unknown areas, professional sports, mountaineering (climbing with mountaineering equipment, or any activity above 4,000 metres), or motor racing (excluding closed-track go-karting).
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Birth and treatment of a premature baby is covered up to 1 month before the expected due date; general pregnancy complications on the trip are covered under the acute illness/medical expenses cover, up to the policy sum.
Personal liability
Optional
Personal liability cover is an optional component sold within the 'Rejse Indbo' add-on package, up to the sum per claim event shown on the policy; excludes damage to items owned/borrowed/rented/used by the insured (except furniture/fittings in holiday accommodation) and various other exclusions.
Legal assistance
Optional
Legal assistance cover for certain private legal disputes arising abroad is an optional component sold within the 'Rejse Indbo' add-on, up to the sum per dispute shown on the policy, subject to the general Danish legal expenses insurance terms (Forsikring & Pension) with a stated exception for criminal cases.
24/7 assistance helpline
Covered
Danish-speaking doctors, nurses and crisis psychologists are available around the clock via the Travel Assistance line (+45 88 24 73 10) for urgent help with serious illness, injury, repatriation assessment or other major incidents.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
You must report a claim to Gjensidige as soon as possible; various extra expenses such as hotel and food must always be pre-approved by Gjensidige, and for urgent serious cases you should call Travel Assistance on +45 88 24 73 10 before incurring large medical expenses.
Unauthorized treatment
Costs or extra costs that result from the insured refusing or not following the instructions of the treating doctor or the company's own doctor, or refusing repatriation when it has been approved, are not covered.
Purchase while abroad
Cover under the main travel insurance takes effect when you leave your home or place of stay in Denmark to start the trip, meaning the policy must be in force before departure; the optional 'Rejse Indbo' cover instead takes effect once you have left Denmark.
Chronic conditions
Chronic conditions are covered for acute, unforeseeable treatment needs, but excluded if the condition led to hospitalization, non-routine doctor visits, or changed medication within the last 2 months before departure; a free pre-travel medical assessment can clarify coverage.
Pregnancy
Birth and treatment of a premature baby is covered up to 1 month before the expected due date; if pregnancy complications arise after the trip is booked and a doctor advises against travel, the optional cancellation cover can compensate for the cancelled trip.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Acute and necessary treatment of a pre-existing/chronic condition is covered if the need could not be foreseen before departure, provided the condition has been stable for the last 2 months prior to departure; otherwise it is excluded.
Coverage duration limit
The standard policy covers the first 60 days of a private trip, and this can be extended to 90 days; for longer trips, an independent extension or Gouda Travel Insurance (part of the Gjensidige group) is referenced as an alternative.
