COVID-19 treatment
Conditional
COVID-19 is treated as any acute illness under the illness coverage (Sygdom), provided symptoms arose acutely during travel and the insured met all standard eligibility conditions. No separate COVID-specific exclusion is stated in the IPID 820.2.
Pre-existing and chronic conditions
Conditional
Special rules apply for persons with chronic or pre-existing conditions. Standard coverage requires the condition to have been stable for 2 months prior to departure (no hospitalisation, no treatment/assessment outside routine check-up). A voluntary medical pre-assessment (forhåndsvurdering) can be requested to clarify coverage.
Winter sports / ski coverage
Conditional
Acute illness and injury during skiing is covered for medical treatment. However, if skiing constitutes more than 25% of the trip's purpose, a ski add-on (skitillæg) must be purchased. All accident/injury claims under the Accident coverage (Ulykke) and Extended Accident coverage arising from skiing are excluded regardless.

Acute illness and injury during active sports (hiking, cycling, water sports etc.) is covered under the standard illness benefit. Extreme expeditions in Arctic, Antarctic, Himalaya, and Greenland are excluded from World coverage.

Conditional
Acute complications of pregnancy arising during travel are covered under the illness benefit. Routine pregnancy check-ups and planned deliveries are not covered. Specific sub-limits are not stated in the IPID 820.2 product sheet.
Personal liability
Covered
Covers personal liability for bodily injury or property damage caused to third parties during travel. Super: DKK 10,000,000 personal injury / DKK 5,000,000 property damage. Liability from use of rented motor vehicles or watercraft over 10 HP is excluded.
Legal assistance abroad (Retshjælp i udlandet)
Covered
Covers legal costs (e.g. lawyer fees) up to DKK 100,000 if the insured becomes involved in a lawsuit abroad, whether as plaintiff or defendant. An excess of 10% (minimum) or 20% applies to legal assistance abroad.
24/7 medical assistance service
Covered
Round-the-clock access to Gouda Alarm (Travel Assistance), staffed by Danish-speaking doctors, nurses, and crisis psychologists, providing medical guidance, treatment coordination, and emergency assistance at all times.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
In the event of illness or injury, the insured must contact Gouda Alarm as soon as possible (hurtigst muligt). If treatment costs are expected to exceed DKK 5,000, Gouda Alarm must be contacted before treatment. Home transport must be agreed with Gouda Alarm in advance — unrequested home transport is not covered.
Unauthorized treatment
Treatment costs incurred without prior authorisation from Gouda Alarm that exceed DKK 5,000 may be subject to reduced or denied reimbursement. The insured must retain original itemised receipts and medical reports as documentation.
Purchase while abroad
The insurance must be purchased before departure from the insured's Danish residence. Coverage commences when the insured leaves their Danish home or place of residence to begin the trip and ceases upon return, provided both times fall within the policy period stated on the certificate.
Chronic conditions
Special rules apply for persons with chronic or pre-existing conditions. Treatment or assessment of illnesses that within the last 2 months before departure have led to hospitalisation, or to treatment/assessment by a doctor or other practitioner that is not part of routine monitoring, is not covered.
Pregnancy
Acute pregnancy complications arising during travel are covered under the illness benefit. Routine antenatal check-ups and planned deliveries are not covered. Coverage for pregnancy-related complications requires that the expected delivery date is not imminent (general illness conditions apply).
pre_existing_conditions
Pre-existing or chronic conditions are only covered if the insured has been stable for at least 2 months prior to departure — meaning no hospitalisation and no treatment/assessment outside of routine monitoring during that period. A voluntary medical pre-assessment (forhåndsvurdering) can be requested from Gouda to clarify coverage for specific conditions.
coverage_duration_limit
The insurance covers single trips. The policy period and trip duration are stated on the certificate. Trips within EU/EØS require that the insured carries and presents the blue EU health insurance card at public clinics and hospitals. Trips exceeding the policy period are not covered.
