Direct payment

Claims are handled together with Falck Global Assistance; assistance and partial settlement can be provided directly on-site during the trip, with final settlement upon return to Denmark, and expenses must be approved by Købstædernes Forsikring to be covered.

Geographic scope

Europe or worldwide (policyholder selects the coverage area at purchase)

Excludes the North Pole, South Pole and Antarctica; excludes areas where the Danish Foreign Ministry, Statens Serum Institut or another public authority advises against travel; war zones are excluded except for the first 30 days if the conflict broke out after entry and the insured does not participate in it.

Unique selling points

  • You always get at least 10% off when you calculate and buy your Årsrejseforsikring online.
  • 24/7 access to a Danish-speaking doctor via the Falck Global Assistance alarm centre for on-the-spot assessment of local treatment.
  • Founded in 1761, Købstædernes Forsikring markets itself as Denmark's oldest and largest customer-owned insurance company.
  • One annual policy covers the whole household on unlimited trips year-round, which the insurer positions as cheaper than buying separate single-trip policies.
  • Standard cover already bundles rental-car deductible protection, baggage delay compensation and emergency recall home due to acute family illness, without needing separate add-ons.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

You must contact the alarm centre (Falck Global Assistance) or Købstædernes Forsikring as soon as possible when a claim occurs, and the expense must be approved by the insurer to be covered.

Unauthorized treatment

Treatment/stay is not covered if you do not follow the instructions of the treating doctor or KF's doctor, e.g. if you fail to travel home when advised to, or continue treatment when KF's doctor has assessed it can wait until you return to Denmark.

Purchase while abroad

It is a condition for cover under Årsrejse that the policy has taken effect and been paid before departure; travelling within the first 14 days after purchase forfeits the right of withdrawal for that trip.

Chronic conditions

If you have a chronic illness/pre-existing condition and have, within the last 2 months, been hospitalised, had treatment changes, referrals, or missed check-ups, a medical pre-approval is required before travelling; only KF's medical staff can determine the resulting scope of cover.

Pregnancy

Childbirth up to 4 weeks before the expected due date is covered; the optional Afbestilling cover also pays out if a doctor assesses pregnancy-related conditions make travelling irresponsible, provided the cause was not present when the trip was paid for.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

A medical pre-approval, valid only for the specific trip, is required for chronic illnesses/pre-existing conditions; a new approval must be sought for every trip, and it may fully cover, partially exclude, or fully exclude illness related to the condition.

Coverage duration limit

Cover runs for the number of travel days chosen and shown on the policy (the insurer's website states options of 30, 60 or 90 days); cover is automatically extended if the return home is delayed beyond the period due to a covered claim.
