Lokal Forsikring G/S (Mutual Insurance Company)
Lokal Forsikring
Lokal Forsikring is a travel insurance for the Denmark market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
SOS International coordinates directly with the treating doctor or hospital abroad and can arrange settlement on-site (e.g. booking hotel or flights home after a claim), so the policyholder does not necessarily have to pay all costs out of pocket first.
Geographic scope
Worldwide, for private holiday trips outside Denmark; limited compensation (ruined holiday days, and optional cancellation) applies to trips within Denmark.
Cover applies to private holiday trips of up to 60 consecutive days outside Denmark, worldwide, plus limited cover for trips within Denmark; travel to destinations the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Statens Serum Institut advise against is excluded.
Unique selling points
- Combined medical treatment, hospitalisation and repatriation costs are covered up to DKK 10,000,000 per claim, well above many market minimums.
- Cover automatically extends to the whole household plus one additional travel companion who does not live at the same address, at no extra charge.
- Unmarried children under 21 who have moved away from home remain covered as long as they live alone and are not otherwise insured.
- Ruined-holiday-day compensation of up to DKK 150,000 per trip abroad (DKK 40,000 for trips within Denmark) for the whole household.
- Repatriation of a left-behind vehicle from abroad is covered with no stated maximum amount ('Ingen begrænsning').

Capped at DKK 140,000 per person, with an overall maximum of DKK 400,000 per event for all insured combined. Excludes search related to kidnapping/hijacking and search north of the Arctic Circle, at the South Pole, or in areas requiring special local permits.
COVID-19 treatment
No limit stated
Not separately mentioned in the terms and conditions or IPID.
Pre-existing conditions
Conditional
Chronic or existing illnesses are excluded by default unless the condition has been stable for 2 months before departure, or a medical pre-approval ('forhåndsgodkendelse') has been obtained from SOS International. Approval can be unconditional, granted with a clause excluding specific conditions, or refused.
Winter sports cover (Ski cover add-on)
DKK 150,000
Optional 'Skidækning' add-on extends cover for ruined holiday days abroad caused directly or indirectly by winter sports (ski, snowboard, sledging, etc.), including lift passes and equipment rental, up to DKK 150,000 per trip for the whole household. Without this add-on, ruined holiday days caused by winter sports are excluded.
Adventure sports cover
Excluded
Damage caused directly or indirectly by participation or training in mountaineering, expeditions, parachuting, professional sport, or flying as pilot/co-pilot is excluded.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Treatment of illness arising from pregnancy is covered within the combined DKK 10,000,000 ceiling (§6.1). Childbirth in the last 4 weeks before the expected due date is excluded, but treatment of a baby born more than 4 weeks premature is covered. A medical pre-assessment is recommended if the pregnancy is complicated.
Liability for damage to rented holiday accommodation
DKK 2,000,000
Narrow-scope liability cover: liability for damage to the contents or fabric of a rented holiday home while in the insured's care is covered up to DKK 2,000,000 per event (not index-adjusted). General private liability (as opposed to this rented-accommodation liability) is covered under the policyholder's separate home contents insurance ('indboforsikring'), not under this travel policy.
Bail and lawyer costs
DKK 125,000
Narrow-scope cover: bail ('kaution') and lawyer costs if the insured or their baggage is detained by local authorities abroad, up to DKK 125,000 per insured person; excludes business/work-related or contractual detentions, and criminal cases other than traffic offences. General legal aid ('retshjælp') is instead covered under the policyholder's home contents insurance, not this travel policy.
24/7 assistance
Covered
SOS International's alarm centre is available worldwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for reporting emergencies and coordinating medical assistance, hospital contact, and repatriation. Calls to/from SOS International in connection with a claim on the trip are covered by the policy.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
You must notify SOS International or Lokal Forsikring G/S as soon as possible after a claim event; medical transport home must be agreed with SOS International and approved by the treating doctor before it is arranged.
Unauthorized treatment
Costs are not covered if you refuse or fail to follow instructions from the treating doctor or an SOS International doctor. If you travel home on your own initiative without SOS International's approval and involvement, cover is capped at what SOS International would otherwise have arranged and paid for.
Purchase while abroad
The annual travel insurance must be taken out before departure; it is a condition that the policy is ordered before you travel, and cover cannot start or be purchased after the trip has begun.
Chronic conditions
Chronic or existing illnesses are covered only if the condition has been in a stable phase for the 2 months before departure (no hospitalisation, medication change, extra doctor visits, referral, missed check-up, or stopped/refused treatment); otherwise a medical pre-approval must be obtained from SOS International before departure.
Pregnancy
Treatment of illness arising from pregnancy is covered; childbirth occurring in the last 4 weeks before the expected due date is excluded, but treatment of a baby born more than 4 weeks premature is covered. A medical pre-assessment is recommended if the pregnancy is complicated.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Pre-existing or chronic conditions are excluded unless stable for 2 months before departure or unless a medical pre-approval has been obtained from SOS International. The approval can be unconditional, granted with a clause excluding certain conditions, or refused; it is valid only for the specific trip applied for.
Coverage duration limit
Cover applies to trips of up to 60 consecutive days. If a covered illness or injury extends the trip beyond 60 days, cover is automatically extended for the remainder of that trip.

SourceTrip duration limit

SourceHousehold dependency requirement
The annual travel insurance is linked to the policyholder's home contents insurance ('indboforsikring') with Lokal Forsikring G/S; the travel insurance ends automatically if the home contents insurance ends, and cannot be bought as a fully standalone policy.
SourceSOS International assistance coordination
All medical assistance and emergency services are coordinated through SOS International, a 24/7 multilingual call center
SourceNordic convention supplementary coverage
Travel insurance supplements the Nordic convention on social security (EU health insurance card); provides same terms as local residents for acute illness/injury
SourceAcute illness only coverage
Insurance covers only acutely occurring illness and injury; chronic or pre-existing conditions excluded unless pre-assessed and approved
SourceNordic Convention takes precedence
For treatment in Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden, the Nordic Convention on social security (using the yellow health card) gives the same treatment rights as local residents and separately covers certain extra repatriation costs. This travel policy does not cover medical transport costs that are already covered under the Nordic Convention.
