Direct payment

Popermo's alarm centre and its assistance partner provide claims service directly at the scene, so part of a covered claim can be settled while still travelling; any advance payment is limited to the insured's immediate individual need, with final settlement made after returning home.

Geographic scope

Europe or Worldwide including Europe, selected at policy purchase

Full medical and travel cover applies outside Denmark. Trips within Denmark are only covered when staying in a rented holiday home for a minimum of three nights, and only holiday compensation and cancellation cover apply there, not medical expenses.

Unique selling points

  • Ski and winter sports trips are covered under the base policy with no additional premium, unlike many competitors that charge extra for winter sports.
  • The policy covers the whole household on an annual basis, including biological, adopted, foster and respite children under 21 registered at a different address.
  • Standard 60-day per-trip cover can be extended by an additional 30 days (up to 90 days total) by simply contacting Popermo.
  • Claims can be settled directly on the spot during the trip via Popermo's alarm centre, including an advance (aconto) payment for immediate needs.
  • Medical and travel expense cover is capped at a high aggregate limit of 20 million DKK per trip for all insured persons combined.

Source

Outpatient treatment

Covered

Ambulant treatment (e.g. medically ordered when hospitalisation is avoided) is covered within the overall aggregate; treatment by a physiotherapist or chiropractor is capped separately at 15,000 DKK.

Source

Emergency dental treatment

DKK 15,000

Acute pain-relieving dental treatment is covered up to a maximum of 15,000 DKK.

Source

Source

Evacuation and involuntary stay

Covered

Reasonable and necessary evacuation costs are covered when there is an imminent threat of war, civil unrest, terrorism, a life-threatening epidemic or a major natural disaster, on condition that the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends evacuation/return; if detained by authorities, accommodation/local transport costs are covered up to 80,000 DKK for a maximum of three months.

Source

Repatriation of remains

Home transport of a deceased insured is covered, including statutory measures such as embalming and a zinc coffin, or costs of cremation/burial at the location if preferred by relatives.

Source

DKK 100,000

Necessary costs of search and rescue are covered up to 100,000 DKK per insured per trip, subsidiary to local authority assistance; the maximum payout per event across all insured/policies is 1 million DKK.

Source

COVID-19 treatment

No limit stated

The sources reference epidemics and 'samfundskritisk sygdom' (societally critical disease) in the context of evacuation and cancellation, but do not explicitly state whether medical treatment for COVID-19 is covered.

Source

Pre-existing conditions

Conditional

Chronic or pre-existing conditions are excluded unless the condition has been stable for two months before departure (no hospitalisation, treatment change, or new referral); if not stable, cover depends on Popermo carrying out a medical pre-assessment, which determines full, partial or no cover.

Source

Winter sports cover

Covered

Ski trips are covered under the base policy at no extra premium; the policy explicitly covers ski holidays despite otherwise excluding activity-specific holiday trips.

Source

Adventure sports cover

No limit stated

No source addresses cover for adventure or extreme sports specifically.

Source

Pregnancy complications

Conditional

Expenses related to childbirth are covered only up to 4 weeks before the expected due date, as part of the illness/injury cover.

Source

Personal liability

No limit stated

No third-party personal liability cover is described in the travel insurance terms; liability cover is provided separately under the Indboforsikring (home contents insurance), which is a different product.

Source

Legal assistance

No limit stated

No legal expenses/legal assistance cover is described; the policy only covers bail/security deposits for disputes arising during the trip, which is a different type of cover.

Source

24/7 assistance

Covered

Popermo's alarm centre can be contacted around the clock by phone or email in case of serious illness, serious injury or significant baggage damage.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In the event of death, acute serious illness, serious injury or hospitalisation, Popermo's alarm centre must be notified immediately ('straks').

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured arranges home transport themselves without involving Popermo's alarm centre, Popermo will pay at most the amount it would have cost had the alarm centre arranged the transport.

Purchase while abroad

None of the reviewed sources address purchasing or activating the policy while already abroad.

Chronic conditions

Treatment of chronic conditions is excluded unless the condition has been stable for the two months before departure or Popermo has carried out a medical pre-assessment granting cover.

Pregnancy

Costs related to childbirth are covered only up to 4 weeks before the expected due date.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

It is recommended to obtain a medical pre-assessment via Popermo's online test before booking or paying for a trip if there has been recent hospitalisation, surgery, new medication, or a pending referral; the pre-assessment determines full, partial or no cover for the existing condition.

Coverage duration limit

Cover applies to the first 60 consecutive days of a trip; this can be extended by up to 30 additional days (total 90 days) by contacting Popermo.
