Extended Europe includes the EU/EEA countries plus a wide list of additional European and neighbouring countries (e.g. Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Morocco via Canary Islands/Azores); overseas islands are excluded from Extended Europe. Reasonable and necessary costs of examination and treatment of illness or injury arising acutely during the trip, including acute worsening of an existing condition (subject to a stability requirement or pre-assessment). No fixed overall monetary ceiling is stated; specific sub-limits apply to physiotherapy/chiropractic/acupuncture/zone therapy (max 10,000 DKK) and dental treatment (max 10,000 DKK, bite damage max 1,000 DKK).

Source

Emergency medical treatment

Covered

Covers reasonable and necessary costs of acute medical examination and treatment abroad; no fixed overall cap is stated in the terms.

Source

Hospitalization

Covered

Hospital treatment for a covered acute illness/injury is covered without a stated fixed ceiling. Related extra costs (e.g. hotel for ambulant follow-up care after discharge) are covered under 'Extra expenses'; telephone calls/reading material during hospitalization over 24 hours are covered up to 500 DKK per claim.

Source

Outpatient treatment

Covered

General outpatient examination and treatment of a covered acute illness/injury is included with no stated fixed cap. A separate sub-limit of 10,000 DKK per person applies to doctor-prescribed physiotherapy, chiropractic, acupuncture and zone therapy (see product-specific constraints).

Source

Acute pain-relieving dental treatment

DKK 10,000

Acute pain-relieving dental treatment by an authorised dentist to reduce the extent of the injury is covered up to 10,000 DKK per person; bite damage is covered up to only 1,000 DKK per person.

Source

Ambulance/taxi transport to treatment location

Covered

Covers ambulance transport to and from the nearest suitable treatment location (or taxi if ambulance is not medically justified), with no stated fixed ceiling. Must be agreed with the insurer or its alarm centre.

Source

Medically supervised repatriation/transfer

Covered

Covers repatriation to Denmark or transfer to another suitable treatment facility when decided by the insurer's doctor and approved by the treating doctor, with no stated fixed ceiling. This is distinct from the separate 'Evacuation and detention' cover (max 65,000 DKK per person) that applies to war/unrest/natural-disaster/epidemic situations — see product-specific constraints.

Source

Repatriation of remains

Covered

Covers repatriation of a deceased person including legally required measures (e.g. embalming, zinc coffin). If relatives choose burial or cremation abroad instead, reimbursement is capped at what repatriation would have cost.

Source

Search and rescue

DKK 100,000

Covers reasonable and necessary costs to search for and rescue an insured person who has gone missing, within a 50 km radius of the last known location, provided it is reported to local police and search/rescue is initiated by local or Danish authorities. Covered up to 100,000 DKK per person per trip.

COVID-19 treatment

No limit stated

Not separately addressed in the reviewed policy documents.

Source

Pre-existing / chronic conditions

Conditional

Acute worsening of an existing or chronic condition is covered only if the condition has been in a stable, good phase for the last 2 months before departure, or if a medical pre-assessment without exclusion clause has been obtained. Otherwise cover may be limited or excluded.

Source

Winter sports (skiing/snowboarding) add-on

Optional

Only in Skisport tilvalg

Injury sustained while skiing or snowboarding is excluded unless the optional 'Skisport' cover has been purchased and appears on the policy; the add-on follows the geographic scope of the base policy.

Source

Adventure/active sports cover

Conditional

Non-professional active-holiday sports (e.g. hiking, cycling, diving, riding) are implicitly covered under the general sickness/injury cover, and losses relating to such activities can trigger 'ruined holiday days' compensation. Skiing/snowboarding specifically requires the separate Skisport add-on, and costs relating to practising or performing professional sport (paid sport) are excluded.

Source

Pregnancy-related complications

Conditional

Treatment costs in connection with childbirth are covered up until 4 weeks before the expected due date; travel undertaken closer to term is not covered for childbirth-related treatment.

Source

Personal liability

DKK 10,000,000

Only in Ansvar, retshjælp og bagage tilvalg

Part of the optional 'Ansvar, retshjælp og bagage' add-on (only relevant if the insured has no home-contents insurance covering travel abroad). Covers personal liability for personal injury up to 10,000,000 DKK per claim, and for damage to property/animals up to 5,000,000 DKK per claim, subject to a 1,500 DKK deductible per claim.

Source

Legal assistance

DKK 150,000

Only in Ansvar, retshjælp og bagage tilvalg

Part of the optional 'Ansvar, retshjælp og bagage' add-on. Covers costs of civil legal disputes arising from the trip abroad, where an advocate has taken on the case, up to 150,000 DKK, subject to a 10% deductible (minimum 2,500 DKK) per dispute. Does not cover ordinary legal advice.

24/7 emergency alarm centre

Covered

A round-the-clock alarm centre (+45 70 15 55 00) can be contacted for urgent help; several covers (transport, evacuation, sygeledsagelse/tilkaldelse, search and rescue) require prior agreement with the insurer or its alarm centre.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

Several covers (transport home, homecalling, escort/calling out, search and rescue, evacuation) require that the insurer or its 24/7 alarm centre is contacted and has approved the arrangement before costs are incurred; the alarm centre must be contacted immediately when a search/rescue or evacuation becomes necessary.

Unauthorized treatment

Costs for transport, homecalling, escort or calling-out that have not been agreed with the insurer or its alarm centre are not covered. Additionally, treatment and stay costs are not covered if the treating doctor has approved the insurer's doctor's decision on repatriation but the insured chooses not to follow it.

Purchase while abroad

Cover starts when the insured leaves their residence in Denmark and ends on return home; the policy is not designed to be bought or activated while already abroad. For trips exceeding 60 days, an extended travel insurance must be purchased before the first 60 days of the trip have elapsed.

Chronic conditions

If the insured has a chronic or existing illness/condition, or has been ill or injured shortly before booking or departure, a medical pre-assessment from the insurer may be required to clarify whether the condition is covered.

Pregnancy

Childbirth-related treatment is covered up until 4 weeks before the expected due date. Trip cancellation due to pregnancy discovered after booking is not covered if the due date falls within the travel period or less than 4 weeks before the planned return date.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Acute worsening of a pre-existing/chronic condition is covered only if the condition was in a stable, good phase for the 2 months before departure, or if a medical pre-assessment without exclusion clause was obtained beforehand.

Coverage duration limit

The standard travel insurance covers the first 60 days of each trip. For trips lasting longer than 60 days, an extended travel insurance (up to 1 year) can be purchased, but it does not cover 'replacement travel' or 'ruined holiday days'.
