Direct payment

For hospitalization requiring inpatient treatment, a doctor arranges further treatment and possible transfer directly with the hospital/treating doctor on the insurer's behalf. For treatment not requiring hospitalization, the insured pays upfront and is reimbursed after submitting a medical certificate, copies of prescriptions, an expense list and original invoices.

Geographic scope

Worldwide

The policy covers trips anywhere in the world. Domestic trips within Denmark are covered only for specific sections (recall of relatives, sickness companion, baggage delay, and cancellation insurance if chosen) - other cover such as illness/hospitalization abroad does not apply within Denmark.

Unique selling points

  • Unlimited sum insured for medical treatment, hospitalization and repatriation abroad, with no fixed monetary cap on the core illness/injury cover.
  • Covers many adventure and extreme sports (mountaineering, parachuting, scuba diving, rafting, martial arts, etc.) as part of the standard annual policy, without requiring a special sports add-on.
  • Optional ski/winter sports add-on offers unlimited daily compensation for ruined holiday days due to injury, beyond typical fixed caps seen in the market.

24/7 assistance hotline

No limit stated

The policy instructs the insured to report any claim situation immediately via storstrom.dk or by phone, but the reviewed documents do not explicitly state that the hotline operates 24/7.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

Any situation that may give rise to a claim must be reported immediately to Storstrøm Forsikring via storstrom.dk or by phone (55 55 88 88).

Unauthorized treatment

Costs are excluded if the insured does not follow the instructions of the treating doctor or the company's doctor, if transport is not approved by the insurer, or if the insured refuses repatriation once the company's doctor has decided it can take place.

Purchase while abroad

The reviewed documents do not address purchasing the policy while already abroad; the travel insurance is established as an addition to home contents insurance (indboforsikring) held in Denmark and covers the same group of persons.

Chronic conditions

Pre-approval (forhåndsgodkendelse) is required for chronic or existing illnesses that within the last 2 months before departure led to hospitalisation, doctor assessment/treatment (not routine control), a change of medication, or being placed on a waiting list; approval applies only to the specific trip.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy and birth are covered up to one month before the expected due date; treatment of a baby born more than one month prematurely is also covered.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Treatment of chronic or pre-existing illnesses/conditions is excluded unless pre-approved, and is also excluded if the insured has not sought treatment, has been refused or given up treatment, is on a waiting list, or has missed check-up appointments within the last six months.

Coverage duration limit

The annual travel policy covers each trip for up to 60 days. According to the March 2026 terms, the period can be extended up to 90 days by agreement and for an additional premium (the January 2026 version of the terms instead states an extension up to 180 days), so the exact maximum extendable period may vary by policy version.
