Emergency medical treatment abroad
Covered
Emergency and acute treatment is covered without prior approval from Tryg Alarm. In EU/EEA countries and Switzerland, treatment should be at a public facility covered by the EU health insurance card (blue card), with the policy covering any co-payment. Private facilities are covered when the standard of public treatment is deemed insufficient, when private treatment is the only option, or when the distance to a public facility is too great.
SourceHospitalization
Covered
Hospital stays are covered as part of treatment abroad. In EU/EEA and Switzerland, the policy covers the co-payment beyond the EU health card entitlement. Outside these areas, full hospital costs are covered subject to the policy sum. The maximum compensation corresponds to a standard room at a 3-star hotel or equivalent for accommodation costs.
SourceOutpatient treatment
Covered
Outpatient doctor consultations, medicine, and related treatments are included as part of the medical treatment abroad coverage. This includes visits to physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and zone therapists related to a covered illness or injury.
SourceEmergency dental treatment
Covered
Acute dental treatment is covered to limit the extent of the damage, for example acute pain relief or treatment. Cosmetic dental treatments such as teeth whitening, dental care and orthodontics are explicitly excluded.
SourceMedical transport and repatriation
Covered
When the insurance covers illness, injury or death, expenses for ambulance or local transport to and from the nearest suitable hospital or treatment facility are covered, as well as expenses to be transported home. If home transport is delayed due to hospitalisation, the coverage period is automatically extended. Transport costs are covered up to the equivalent of economy class airfare.
SourceEvacuation and involuntary stay
Covered
Covers additional transport costs and any accommodation and meals to allow evacuation to the home country or equivalent accommodation when the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or equivalent Danish authority recommends evacuation, or when Tryg assesses that evacuation is necessary due to a newly emerged or significantly worsened situation such as war, terrorism, or natural disaster. Coverage applies for events that had not occurred when the insured entered the country.
SourceRepatriation of remains
Covered
In the event of death, the insurance covers expenses for urn or coffin transport, including all legally required measures.
SourceSearch and rescue
Covered
Covers expenses for search within a radius of 50 km from where the insured was last seen. Once the location is established, covers expenses for rescue. Does not cover payment for search and rescue to authorities or organisations that normally work voluntarily or unpaid, or searches in connection with kidnapping, in Arctic areas of Canada, Russia and Alaska, or searches initiated by relatives because the insured failed to report their whereabouts.
SourceCOVID-19 treatment and involuntary quarantine
Covered
Treatment for COVID-19 illness is covered as an acute illness under the standard medical treatment abroad section. Additionally, involuntary stay due to a governmental requirement of self-isolation/quarantine due to confirmed COVID-19 infection or close contact with a COVID-19 infected person is covered. Forced confinement to the holiday accommodation under a government quarantine order also counts as a ruined holiday day.
SourcePre-existing and chronic conditions
Conditional
Acute worsening of a pre-existing or chronic condition is covered only if the insured has not been ill within 2 months before departure, or has obtained a medical pre-approval (medicinsk forhåndsvurdering). If the insured has been under treatment or has a chronic condition, a prior electronic health assessment is mandatory. Pre-assessment is not required for travel within Denmark or to Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.
SourceWinter sports cover
Covered
The insurance covers injuries sustained during all types of sport, including sports branches generally considered dangerous, including skiing and snowboarding. No additional premium is required. The optional 'Ødelagt aktiv rejse' add-on provides additional compensation for ruined active holiday days.
SourceAdventure and dangerous sports cover
Covered
The insurance covers all types of sport including branches generally considered dangerous sport, without any additional premium or restriction. Professional sport (sport performed for pay) is explicitly excluded. Polar expeditions are also excluded.
SourcePregnancy complications
Conditional
Acute medical treatment needed due to pregnancy complications is covered as an acute illness under the treatment abroad section. However, elective procedures, planned births, sterilisation, infertility investigations and induced abortion are explicitly excluded. If the insured is pregnant with complications and attends extra check-ups, a medical pre-approval is required.

24/7 emergency assistance (Tryg Alarm)
Covered
Tryg Alarm provides round-the-clock assistance from doctors and specially trained health and assistance personnel when immediate help is needed, for example in connection with hospitalisation due to illness or injury. Calls to and from Tryg Alarm are free of charge. The Tryg Lægehotline app also provides access to video consultation with a Danish doctor while abroad.
SourceKey conditions
Assistance call deadline
Tryg Alarm or Tryg Lægehotline must be contacted and treatment approved before any non-emergency examination or treatment begins. For acute and urgent treatment this requirement is waived. Tryg can refuse to cover costs if the treatment course or transport has not been approved in advance.
Unauthorized treatment
If treatment or home transport is carried out without prior approval from Tryg's physician (except in acute emergencies), Tryg may refuse to cover the costs. Costs for home transport not approved by Tryg's physician are explicitly excluded.
Purchase while abroad
The insurance is an annual policy (Årsrejse) and must generally be purchased before the trip starts. Cover for cancellation and flight compensation must be in force no later than the time the first part of the trip price is paid. Bankruptcy coverage only applies for trips paid 90 days after the coverage has come into force.
Chronic conditions
A chronic disease is defined as a disease that has lasted or is expected to last more than six months and requires ongoing medical monitoring or treatment and limits activity. Worsening of a chronic disease during the trip is not covered unless a medical pre-approval (medicinsk forhåndsvurdering) has been obtained. Pre-approval is mandatory if the disease has changed (new treatment, worsening, new medication) within 2 months before departure.
Pregnancy
Acute medical treatment due to pregnancy complications is covered as an acute illness. Elective procedures, planned deliveries, induced abortion, sterilisation, and infertility investigations or treatments are explicitly excluded. Pregnant women attending additional check-ups due to complications must undergo the medical pre-approval process.
pre_existing_conditions
Illness or injury that showed symptoms or was diagnosed by a doctor before departure is not covered, unless Tryg has granted a medical pre-approval. If the insured has been under treatment or had a worsening of an existing or chronic illness within 2 months before departure or before paying the first part of the trip cost, a medical pre-approval is required. The electronic pre-assessment is available at www.tryg.dk/partner.
coverage_duration_limit
The annual insurance (Årsrejse) covers individual trips up to the number of travel days chosen per policy (visible in the policy agreement). The coverage period is automatically extended by up to 48 hours if the return is delayed without fault of the insured. If the return is delayed because the insured is hospitalised, coverage also extends beyond the chosen number of travel days.
