Direct payment

For hospital admissions, SOS International's alarm centre will, where necessary, provide a payment guarantee directly to the treating hospital. For doctor visits or emergency room treatment outside the EU/EEA, or if the blue EU health insurance card is not accepted, you can ask the provider to bill SOS International directly, or pay yourself and claim reimbursement afterwards with medical documentation and original receipts.

Geographic scope

Worldwide

Covers private holiday trips worldwide of up to 60 days per trip, starting and ending in Denmark; cover applies only within the geographical area stated on the policy.

Unique selling points

  • Unlimited cover for illness/injury and medically necessary repatriation, protecting against costs that can reach hundreds of thousands of kroner even on short European trips.
  • Free 24/7 access to a Danish-speaking doctor helpline via SOS International for advice on treatment and finding local doctors and dentists abroad.
  • One single annual policy covers all trips up to 60 days for the whole household, so there is no need to buy a new policy for every trip.
  • Domestic Danish holidays are also covered under the same annual policy, from just 2 consecutive overnight stays.
  • Up to 1,000,000 kr. cover for medical malpractice suffered abroad, well beyond typical minimum requirements.

24/7 emergency assistance

Covered

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

SOS International's 24-hour alarm centre must always be contacted as soon as possible in cases of illness, accident, hospitalisation, repatriation, evacuation, search and rescue, or hostage situations. Hospitalisation abroad always requires contact with SOS International, and ambulance flights must be pre-approved by SOS International.

Unauthorized treatment

Costs for treatment, transport or repatriation arranged by yourself are only covered up to what SOS International would have paid for arranging the same service; costs arising because you do not follow SOS International's doctor's instructions, or continue treatment after SOS International's doctor has decided repatriation should take place, are not covered.

Purchase while abroad

The travel insurance must be purchased and paid for before departure from Denmark; it cannot be taken out once travel has already begun, and cover applies only within the geographical area stated on the policy.

Chronic conditions

Chronic or existing conditions that are not stable are, as a general rule, not covered; cover is excluded if, within the 2 months before departure, the condition led to hospitalisation, a non-routine doctor visit, or a change in medication. A voluntary pre-assessment with SOS International can clarify eligibility in advance.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications are covered as acute illness, but a known, normally progressing birth within 4 weeks of the expected due date, or any treatment need known before departure, is not covered.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are only covered if, within the 2 months prior to departure, they have not led to hospitalisation, a non-routine medical consultation, a change in medication, or being placed on a waiting list for assessment/treatment; a voluntary online pre-assessment with SOS International can clarify eligibility.

Coverage duration limit

Cover under the annual policy is limited to trips of up to 60 consecutive days each; if a trip lasts longer, it is not covered and separate cover must be purchased for the whole trip. If the return journey is delayed through no fault of the insured, the period is automatically extended by up to 14 days without extra premium.
