Seesam
Seesam is a travel insurance for the Estonia market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
The insured may pay medical bills themselves and later submit them to Seesam for reimbursement, or may contact Seesam or its claims-handling partner to have bills for hospitalisation, surgery or repatriation settled directly, provided the costs are pre-approved.
Geographic scope
Worldwide, in zones selectable on the policy (Nordic-Baltic countries, Russia, Belarus, Europe, extended Europe including Turkey/Egypt, worldwide excluding USA/Canada, or worldwide including USA/Canada)
Coverage does not apply in Estonia or in the insured's country of permanent residence; medical, baggage and liability cover apply only abroad within the zone marked on the policy.
Unique selling points
- Medical treatment sum insured can be selected up to 1,000,000 EUR according to the traveller's needs.

- Annual multi-trip policyholders can now take single trips of up to 90 consecutive days, up from 60 days previously.
- An optional 'Hazardous Activity' endorsement extends medical cover to skiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, ATV riding, mass sporting events and other higher-risk pursuits.
Coverage limits
Medical Expenses
Covered
Covers doctor-prescribed, reasonable and necessary treatment costs abroad, including hospital bed-day fees, examinations, medication and necessary medical aids, plus reasonable emergency first-aid costs for a sudden exacerbation of a chronic illness. The exact sum insured is chosen individually on the policy.
Emergency Medical Treatment
Covered
Emergency medical care following a sudden acute illness, accident or death occurring abroad during the trip is the core insured event of the medical module.
Hospitalization
Covered
Hospital bed-day fees incurred abroad as part of doctor-prescribed treatment are reimbursed as part of medical expenses; there is no separate sub-limit stated.
Outpatient Treatment
Covered
Outpatient examinations, doctor consultations and prescribed medication abroad are reimbursed as part of medical expenses.
Emergency Dental Treatment
€500
Emergency dental first-aid costs incurred abroad are reimbursed up to 500 EUR per insured person per trip. Note: the current 1/2026 T&C raised this limit from the 200 EUR previously stated in the 1/2022 terms and in the older IPID.
Medical Transport
Covered
Reasonable costs for the injured or ill person to reach a medical facility and then an accommodation facility are reimbursed.
Medical Evacuation / Return Home
Conditional
If medically indicated, transport and accommodation costs for the insured's return to Estonia are covered, including reasonable transport and accommodation costs for one accompanying person; all such costs must be pre-approved by Seesam.
Repatriation of Remains
€10,000
If the insured dies abroad during the trip, burial or cremation costs abroad and/or transport of the remains or urn to Estonia are covered up to 10,000 EUR; costs must be pre-agreed with Seesam and reimbursement is paid to the person who bore the expense.
Search and Rescue
No limit stated
Not addressed as a distinct benefit in the reviewed T&Cs or IPID.
COVID-19 Treatment
No limit stated
Not addressed as a distinct benefit in the reviewed T&Cs or IPID; general acute-illness cover under medical expenses would apply subject to standard exclusions.
Pre-existing Conditions
Excluded
Costs relating to an illness, its symptoms, or a condition diagnosed before the insurance cover took effect are excluded from the medical module.
Winter Sports Cover
Optional
Downhill skiing or snowboarding on marked pistes at winter sports resorts is covered only if the 'Hazardous Activity' add-on is marked on the policy. Skiing/snowboarding off marked pistes, slalom, speed/downhill racing, freestyle, ski jumping, snowboard tricks and bobsleighing remain excluded even with the add-on.
Adventure / Hazardous Sports Cover
Optional
Activities such as weightlifting, powerlifting, ice hockey, ATV/snowmobile riding, competitive sports events, mass sporting events (e.g. marathons) and guided multi-day expeditions in uninhabited areas are covered only with the 'Hazardous Activity' add-on marked on the policy. Rock/mountain climbing, motorsport, air sports, contact sports, extreme sports, diving below 40m, parachute/bungee jumping and offshore sailing without a port call every 7 days remain excluded even with the add-on.
Pregnancy Complications
Conditional
Costs of pregnancy-related complications are covered up to the 35th week of pregnancy, subject to the overall medical sum insured chosen on the policy; costs related to childbirth, artificial insemination, termination of pregnancy, contraception or the newborn child are excluded.
Personal Liability
Excluded
Liability for damage caused to third parties abroad is covered only under the separate liability insurance module (vastutuskindlustus) of the Seesam travel policy, not within the medical insurance component covered here.
Legal Assistance
Excluded
Legal defence costs are reimbursed only in connection with a claim under the separate liability insurance module, not as part of the medical insurance cover.
24/7 Assistance
No limit stated
The T&Cs and IPID reference a Seesam claims-handling partner for hospitalisation/surgery/repatriation but do not state that the assistance line operates 24/7.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must immediately notify Seesam or its claims-handling partner of any need for hospitalisation, surgery or repatriation and have the related costs pre-approved before they are incurred.
Unauthorized treatment
Costs for hospitalisation, surgery or repatriation that were not coordinated with Seesam in advance may be reduced or refused; Seesam may also reduce, refuse or reclaim a payout if the insured breached contractual requirements or provided false information.
Purchase while abroad
If the insured has already left Estonia and is travelling before the policy is purchased and the insurance period starts, the policyholder must inform Seesam of this when concluding the contract.
Chronic conditions
Only the reasonable and necessary emergency first-aid costs for a sudden, unexpected exacerbation of a chronic (recurring or continuous) illness are covered; treatment of the chronic disease itself is excluded.
Pregnancy
Costs of pregnancy-related complications are covered up to the 35th week of pregnancy; costs related to childbirth, artificial insemination, termination of pregnancy, contraception or the newborn child are excluded.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Costs relating to an illness, symptoms or a condition diagnosed before the insurance cover took effect are not reimbursed.
Coverage duration limit
For an annual multi-trip policy the number of trips is unlimited, but a single trip may not exceed 90 consecutive days; the insurance period automatically extends by up to 48 hours if the trip is prolonged for reasons beyond the insured's control.
