Generali France
Generali
Generali is a motor casco insurance for the France market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
No upfront payment is required for repairs carried out at a Generali-approved partner garage after a covered claim; the policyholder only pays the contractual deductible, and repairs (parts and labour) are covered directly.
Geographic scope
Metropolitan France, with the Principalities of Monaco and Andorra treated as "France" under the policy.
Cover applies in Metropolitan France and in the other countries shown on the green card (International Motor Insurance Card) whose reference letter has not been struck out, plus Gibraltar, the Channel Islands, the Faroe Islands, the Isle of Man, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and the Holy See (Vatican).
Unique selling points
- No upfront repair costs (beyond the deductible) when using Generali's network of nearly 2,000 partner garages, with a 2-year repair guarantee.
- Driver's bodily-injury protection can be raised up to €1,000,000, on top of the standard €300,000 cover included in every formula.
- The Atout Prévention scheme rewards claim-free drivers with a 50% to 75% deductible reduction after 3 or 5 years without a claim.
- A personalised 'C'est trouvé' assistant helps policyholders find a replacement vehicle (new or used) free of charge after a claim.
- L'Auto Generali received the 'Label d'Excellence' from Les Dossiers de l'Épargne in 2022, recognising the overall quality of the contract.
Coverage limits
Own damage (all accidents)
Conditional
Only in Tous Risques
Covers accidental damage to the insured vehicle from collision with a fixed or moving object, or overturning/rollover even without prior collision; available only under the 'Tous Risques' (comprehensive) formula, subject to the deductible shown in the Dispositions Particulières.
Total loss
Conditional
Only in Tous Risques
In case of total loss, the base indemnity is the expert-assessed replacement value (VRADE). Optional upgrades, selectable only under 'Tous Risques', are 'Indemnisation en valeur d'achat' (purchase-price indemnity for 12, 24 or 36 months after first registration) and 'Indemnisation en valeur majorée' (VRADE plus 20%, capped at purchase price) thereafter.
Partial loss / repair costs
Conditional
Only in Tous Risques
When the vehicle is repairable, indemnity equals the cost of repair or replacement of damaged parts as assessed by the insurer's expert, capped at the vehicle's expert-assessed replacement value (VRADE) at the date of loss; a wear-and-tear deduction (vétusté) applies to parts such as brakes, brake pads, exhaust, shock absorbers and tyres according to a mileage-based scale.
Theft and attempted theft
Covered
Only in Tiers Étendu, Tous Risques
Covers theft or attempted theft of the vehicle following forced entry (including electronic), aggression, ruse, or force majeure; indemnity is based on the expert-assessed replacement value (or purchase value during an initial period if that option is taken). Lock/key replacement following theft of the keys is covered up to €500 with no deductible when caused by aggression or forced entry of the place where the keys were kept.
Glass breakage
Covered
Only in Tiers Étendu, Tous Risques
Covers the cost of replacing or repairing the windscreen, side windows, rear window, sunroof/glass roof and front headlight/indicator/fog-light lenses, up to the manufacturer catalogue replacement value; a reduced (not zero) deductible applies when the repairer's recommended solution is a repair rather than a full replacement. Rear lights and mirrors are excluded.
Natural events (catastrophes naturelles / forces of nature)
Covered
Only in Tiers Étendu, Tous Risques
Covers direct material damage caused by an officially recognised natural catastrophe (subject to the regulatory deductible fixed by ministerial order) and by other natural-force events not classified as a 'catastrophe naturelle' (flooding, rockfall, snow, landslide, hail, storm, hurricane, cyclone).
Vandalism
Conditional
Only in Tous Risques
Covers damage to the insured vehicle caused deliberately by a third party (not amounting to theft, attempted theft or an accident), on presentation of a police report; available only under the 'Tous Risques' formula.
Roadside assistance / towing
€200 – €300
Only in Tiers Étendu, Tous Risques
Optional 'Assistance' guarantee (subscribed as the '0 km' or '25 km' formula) covers on-the-spot breakdown assistance or towing to the nearest garage, up to €200 including tax (€300 on motorways/toll roads); the '25 km' formula applies a 25 km deductible from the home address for breakdown/fuel/energy-breakdown events, which the '0 km' option removes.
Replacement vehicle
Optional
Optional guarantee providing a replacement vehicle while the insured vehicle is immobilised: the 'Économique' formula provides an economy 3-door or city 5-door car for up to 5 days; 'Particulier' and 'Professionnel' formulas provide an equivalent-category vehicle for 8 days (breakdown/fuel error), 15 days (accident, vandalism, attempted theft, natural catastrophe, fire) or 40 days (theft); a cash alternative of €110/day (within the same day limits) is available under the Professional option if the vehicle offered is unsuitable for the policyholder's business.
Driver's bodily injury protection
€300,000 – €1,000,000
Covers the driver's own bodily injury (or death) following a road accident, or violence suffered during a theft/attempted theft of the vehicle, indemnified under ordinary-law rules. Included in every formula at a minimum capital of €300,000 with a 10% permanent-impairment (AIPP) threshold; optional upgrades raise the capital to €600,000 (5% threshold) or €1,000,000 (no threshold).
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
A 'young/new driver' deductible applies in addition to any other deductible stated in the policy; it is not applied on the first claim if the guarantee was taken out within 18 months of the vehicle's first registration, and is doubled if a claim occurs within 3 months of subscribing to the guarantee (driver bodily-injury cover). Cover may also be excluded or limited if the driver does not hold a licence valid for the vehicle category, subject to exceptions for supervised/accompanied learner drivers.
Repair network requirements
Policyholders may use Generali's partner repair network; vehicles are inspected within 10 days of the claim (a remote photo-expertise is systematically offered to reduce immobilisation), repairs are guaranteed for 2 years, and a courtesy vehicle may be provided subject to garage availability. For the Pannes Mécaniques guarantee, repairs must be carried out by a professional repairer following the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations.
Territorial scope
Cover applies in Metropolitan France and, for the duration of validity of the green card, in the other countries listed on it (with a non-struck-out reference letter), plus Gibraltar, the Channel Islands, the Faroe Islands, the Isle of Man, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican.
Anti-theft requirements
If a theft-protection or tracking device is declared in the Dispositions Particulières, its existence and use must be evidenced at the time of the claim, otherwise the Theft guarantee does not apply; if the vehicle is stolen from a declared individual closed garage while the keys were inside, or was left unlocked, indemnity is reduced by 20% to 50% depending on the circumstances.
Claim notification deadline
Claims must be reported within 2 working days for theft, within 10 days of the official publication recognising a natural catastrophe, and within 5 working days for all other covered events.
Deductible rules
The deductible is set in the Dispositions Particulières and applies per claim; a 'young/new driver' deductible stacks on top of any other deductible; a reduced deductible applies to glass repairs (as opposed to replacement); theft indemnities are reduced by 20% to 50% in specific circumstances (unproven garage use, keys left inside, vehicle left unlocked); and under the 'Atout Prévention' scheme the deductible is reduced by 50% to 75% after 3 or 5 consecutive claim-free years without interruption of the contract.
