Direct payment

For repairs carried out through SwissLife's network of approved repairers, the insurer handles the repair quote and can settle the garage directly, including waiving the glass-breakage deductible when an approved glazier is used; for non-approved repairers, indemnification is based on the expert-assessed repair cost and reimbursed to the policyholder.

Geographic scope

Metropolitan France, with extensions to French overseas departments, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino, the Holy See, EU member states and other Green Card countries depending on the guarantee.

Third-party liability applies in metropolitan France, French overseas departments, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino, the Holy See, EU member states and other countries listed on the Green Card while it is valid. Catastrophes naturelles applies in metropolitan France and overseas departments. Insolvency of third parties applies in metropolitan France and Monaco. Transported goods/materials cover applies in metropolitan France, neighbouring countries, EU member states, Liechtenstein, San Marino and the Holy See. Outside metropolitan France and Monaco, damage guarantees only apply during temporary stays not exceeding three months.

Unique selling points

  • Six modular coverage formulas, from mandatory third-party liability to a full all-risks package, letting drivers tailor cover to their budget.
  • Optional new-value guarantee extendable up to 36 months and 75,000 km, well beyond the standard 24-month/50,000 km base cover.
  • Mileage-based 'as-you-go' pricing option for low-mileage drivers (5,000 or 9,000 km/year caps) to reduce the annual premium.
  • Approved repair network offering a 5-year workmanship guarantee, free courtesy vehicle and home service during repairs.
  • Legal protection extends beyond standard litigation costs to reimburse up to €300 of licence point-recovery course fees.

Coverage limits

Own Damage (Accidents, Riots, Vandalism)

Optional

Only in Accidents, émeutes, vandalisme

Covers damage to the insured vehicle caused by collision with a fixed or moving object, overturning without prior collision, accidental opening of the bonnet/boot/door, riots or popular movements, vandalism, and submersion. This guarantee is only granted if subscribed, and its amounts and deductibles are set out in the Dispositions Personnelles.

Source

Total Loss Settlement / New Value Guarantee

Conditional

Only in Valeur à neuf 24 mois (base), Valeur à neuf 36 mois (option)

When the vehicle is economically/technically irreparable or has disappeared, indemnification equals the expert-assessed replacement value (VRADE) before the loss, less residual value. If the optional 'Valeur à neuf' extension is subscribed, for a total loss occurring within 24 months of first registration (extendable to 36 months as an option) indemnification equals the purchase price, degressive by 1% per month once the vehicle exceeds 50,000 km (75,000 km under the 36-month option).

Source

Partial Loss / Repairable Vehicle Damage

Conditional

When the vehicle is economically repairable, indemnification equals the repair cost under the best local economic conditions, taking into account the vehicle's age, condition and the nature of the damage; a wear-and-tear (vétusté) deduction applies to periodically replaced parts such as tyres. This is part of the Dommages au véhicule guarantee, applicable only if that guarantee has been subscribed.

Source

Theft / Robbery

Optional

Covers theft or attempted theft of the vehicle committed by aggression or by break-in of the windows, sunroof, doors, boot, or of a locked private garage, including theft of the vehicle within 6 hours of the keys being stolen from the insured's home; also covers theft of vehicle parts (wheels, engine block, steering, bodywork elements, exhaust line) under specific conditions, plus recovery and up to 72 hours of impound fees. Non-original (hors série) accessories are only covered up to 10% of the vehicle's expert-assessed value (VRADE). This guarantee is only granted if subscribed, with anti-theft equipment requirements set in the Dispositions Personnelles.

Source

Glass Breakage

Optional

Covers breakage of the windscreen, rear window, side and door windows, sunroof glass, exterior lighting/signalling elements and the exterior sun visor, including engraving costs for etched glass. The deductible can be waived when an approved glazier from SwissLife's network is used. This guarantee is only granted if subscribed.

Natural Perils / Catastrophes Naturelles

Conditional

Only in Incendie, tempête, forces de la nature, Accidents, émeutes, vandalisme, Catastrophes naturelles

Covers storm, hail, snow weight, lightning, flood, avalanche, falling rocks and landslide under the Incendie/Tempête or Accidents/Émeutes/Vandalisme guarantees. The statutory Catastrophes naturelles guarantee is automatically included as soon as one of the Incendie, Vol, Accidents/Émeutes/Vandalisme guarantees is subscribed, and can only be triggered after an official Journal Officiel decree recognising the state of natural disaster. A statutory deductible applies (see key_conditions.deductible_rules).

Source

Vandalism

Optional

Only in Accidents, émeutes, vandalisme

Covers damage voluntarily caused to the vehicle by a third party with no other motive than to damage or destroy it, under the Accidents, émeutes, vandalisme guarantee, only granted if subscribed.

Source

Breakdown / Towing Assistance

Conditional

Only in Dépannage remorquage

Automatically included once one of the Incendie/Tempête, Vol, Accident/Émeute/Vandalisme or Bris de glaces guarantees is subscribed. Reimburses, on justification and once validated by the expert, towing, breakdown recovery, lifting, vehicle retrieval and storage costs, complementing any prior roadside-assistance intervention. Limits are set in the Dispositions Personnelles. Marketing material also advertises a 24/7 '0 km' assistance service, which could not be fully cross-checked against the current T&C's assistance annex.

Source

Replacement Vehicle

Optional

Marketing material advertises a free courtesy vehicle with unlimited mileage for the duration of repairs when using SwissLife's approved repair network. The T&C reference a separate optional 'Convention véhicule de remplacement' annex, subscribed and detailed in the Dispositions Personnelles.

Source

Driver Bodily Injury

€1,000,000

Covers the driver's bodily injury or death from a road accident while driving the insured vehicle. Under the current T&C (Article 11) this guarantee is only granted 'sous réserve que vous l'ayez souscrite' (subject to subscription), whereas marketing material states it is included systematically in all formulas and can be increased up to €1,000,000; the T&C's subscription requirement is treated as governing. The guarantee is due once permanent incapacity exceeds 10%, applied only to the part exceeding that threshold (this 10% threshold does not apply to funeral costs).

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

A 'novice driver' deductible applies when, at the time of the claim, the insured vehicle is driven by the holder of a driving licence held for less than 3 years; the exact deductible amount is set in the Dispositions Personnelles and also applies to the Dommages causés à autrui guarantee.

Repair network requirements

The policyholder is free to choose any repairer. SwissLife also offers an approved repair network guaranteeing repairs and workmanship for 5 years, a free courtesy vehicle and home service during repairs, vehicle checks (fluids, tyres, lights), cleaning, and the buy-back of the glass-breakage deductible if an approved glazier is used.

Territorial scope

Third-party liability applies across metropolitan France, French overseas departments, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino, the Holy See, EU member states and other Green Card countries. Damage guarantees generally apply in metropolitan France and Monaco, extended to neighbouring/EU countries for limited temporary stays (up to 3 months), except where a guarantee's own territorial table states otherwise.

Anti-theft requirements

The Dispositions Personnelles specify the anti-theft prevention equipment required to be installed for the Vol guarantee to apply, and indicate the sanctions applicable at claim time if the required preventive measures were not implemented.

Claim notification deadline

Claims must generally be reported as soon as possible and at the latest within 5 business days of the damage being noted; theft must be reported within 2 days; a natural disaster claim must be filed within 10 days of the publication of the ministerial decree; vandalism or terrorist-act damage must be reported to the authorities within 48 hours.

Deductible rules

Specific deductibles apply for 'conduite exclusive' (vehicle driven by someone other than the designated main driver), 'conducteur novice occasionnel' and 'conduite à l'insu' (unauthorised use by a minor); their exact amounts are set in the Dispositions Personnelles, and if several apply, only the highest is retained (cumulating, where applicable, with other contractual deductibles). The statutory Catastrophes naturelles deductible is €380 per damaged motor vehicle, except that for vehicles used professionally the contractual deductible applies if higher.
