Direct payment

The policyholder has free choice of repairer. If a MAAF-approved repairer is used, no advance payment is required from the insured: the indemnity, less any deductible, is paid directly to the repairer. Otherwise, once all necessary documents are received, the indemnity is paid within 15 days of the insured's agreement or of an enforceable court decision.

Geographic scope

Metropolitan France, French overseas departments and regions (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyane, Réunion), European Union / EEA countries, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Vatican City and San Marino

Coverage applies in France, EU/EEA member states, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Vatican City, San Marino, and any country mentioned and not crossed out on the valid international Green Card. Catastrophe naturelle and terrorism/attentat cover is restricted exclusively to Metropolitan France and the overseas departments and regions (DROM).

Unique selling points

  • Driver bodily-injury cover is included in every formula, even the entry-level Tiers Eco, with a permanent-invalidity capital of up to €500,000 — an area competitors often exclude from base third-party cover.
  • MAAF Assistance provides a 24/7 helpline reachable even from abroad, with dedicated SOS constat support to help policyholders complete accident report forms in real time.
  • The top-tier Tous Risques Confort+ formula reimburses at purchase value for near-new vehicles and includes a mechanical breakdown guarantee plus up to 20 days of replacement-vehicle cover.
  • An optional legal-defence rider (Défense juridique de l'automobiliste) offers free choice of lawyer with a dedicated €16,000 cost ceiling, managed by the specialised Covéa Protection Juridique entity.
  • Backed by the Covéa mutual insurance group, MAAF operates one of the largest physical branch networks in France, combined with a fully digital online quote-and-subscribe journey.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Coverage applies in France, EU/EEA states, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Vatican City, San Marino, and countries mentioned and not crossed out on the valid international Green Card. Catastrophe naturelle and terrorism/attentat cover is restricted to Metropolitan France and the DROM.

Green card rules

The international motor insurance card (Green Card) is required proof of cover when driving in countries mentioned and not crossed out on it; MAAF's lexicon identifies Albania, Morocco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine as countries where the card is mandatory. It is available from advisors, the client area or the mobile app.

Driver restrictions

The driver must hold a valid driving licence appropriate to the vehicle category; exceptions apply for accompanied learner-driving schemes (AAC, conduite supervisée, conduite encadrée) provided they are declared in advance. An additional deductible applies for occasional driving by an undeclared novice driver in most formulas (and for any undeclared driver in the Eco formulas).

Claim notification deadline

Claims must be declared as soon as the policyholder becomes aware of them, and at the latest: within 2 business days in case of theft, within 30 days following publication of the official cat-nat decree, and within 5 business days in all other cases.

Bonus-malus rules

Starting coefficient is 1.00. It decreases by 5% for each claim-free year (floor 0.50). Each fully responsible claim increases it by 25% (12.5% if only partially responsible), with a ceiling of 3.50. After two consecutive claim-free years the coefficient cannot exceed 1. By derogation, MAAF applies the bonus-malus coefficient even to mini-vehicles (motorised quadricycles).
