Third-party (RC) claims are settled directly with the injured third party or their insurer.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

RC and legal defence cover apply in Metropolitan France, Monaco, and countries party to the Green Card inter-bureaux Convention. Since 1 April 2024, drivers can circulate freely in 30 EEA countries plus Switzerland, the UK, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia, proof of insurance being handled via the FVA rather than a paper Green Card.

Green card rules

The physical Green Card was abolished on 1 April 2024 for vehicles registered in France and replaced by the Fichier des Véhicules Assurés (FVA), which automatically transmits insurance proof to authorities; a specific Green Card can still be issued on request for a trailer/caravan registered separately from the towing vehicle.

Driver restrictions

The Eurofil contract targets drivers with an existing no-claims bonus. Young/novice drivers generally need at least 2 years' driving experience or must be registered as a secondary/occasional driver on a parent's policy. Contracts contain an exclusive-driving clause: lending the vehicle without declaring secondary drivers can trigger a 3,000 EUR penalty if driven by an undeclared novice driver.

Claim notification deadline

Claims must be reported within 2 business days for theft or attempted theft, within 30 days of the official publication of the interministerial decree for Natural Catastrophes, and within 5 business days for other claims.

Bonus-malus rules

Statutory French bonus-malus clause applies (not for vehicles ≤80cc). Each claim-free year reduces the coefficient by 5% (7% for 'Tournées'/professional use), down to a floor of 0.50. Each at-fault claim increases the coefficient by 25% (20% for professional use, halved for partial liability), up to a ceiling of 3.50. After two consecutive claim-free years the coefficient cannot exceed 1.
