Alte Leipziger Versicherung Aktiengesellschaft (part of the Alte Leipziger – Hallesche / ALH Gruppe, whose mutual parent is Alte Leipziger Lebensversicherung a.G.)
Alte Leipziger
Alte Leipziger is a motor casco insurance for the Germany market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
For Kasko claims handled through a partner workshop (Werkstattbindung), Alte Leipziger settles the repair invoice directly with the workshop up to the vehicle's Wiederbeschaffungswert; if repaired at a non-partner workshop, reimbursement follows afterwards and is capped at 85% of the equivalent partner-workshop cost when an invoice is submitted.
Geographic scope
Europe and the non-European territories of the EU
Kasko cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe and non-European territories belonging to the European Union (narrower than the MTPL/Mallorca policy scope).
Unique selling points
- Up to 36 months of new-value compensation after first registration in the comfort tariff, well above the market-typical 6–12 months.
- Waives the defense of gross negligence in Voll- and Teilkasko across all tariffs, so claims are still paid after grossly negligent conduct (except theft or driving under the influence).
- Special equipment is insured premium-free up to €20,000 in the comfort tariff, compared with €5,000 in compact.
- All-risk cover for the EV/hybrid drive battery up to €25,000 in comfort, beyond the perils already covered under Teil-/Vollkasko.
- A network of over 1,400 partner workshops offers free pick-up/drop-off, a replacement car, interior/exterior cleaning and a minimum 2-year repair warranty at no extra cost.
Coverage limits
Own damage / maximum insurable vehicle value
€75,000 – €150,000
Overall Kasko cover and the maximum indemnity are capped at the vehicle's Neupreis (list price). The maximum insurable new value of the vehicle differs by tariff: compact up to €75,000, classic up to €125,000, comfort up to €150,000.
Total loss / theft / destruction compensation
€75,000 – €150,000
On total loss, destruction or theft, the insurer pays the Wiederbeschaffungswert (replacement value) less any residual value, up to the tier ceiling (compact €75,000 / classic €125,000 / comfort €150,000). New-value compensation (full list price) applies if the loss occurs within 12 months (compact), 24 months (classic) or 36 months (comfort) of first registration. For used vehicles, purchase-price compensation applies within 12 months (classic) or 24 months (comfort) of registration to the policyholder; not available in compact.
Partial damage / repair costs
Covered
If the vehicle is damaged, the insurer pays the necessary repair costs up to the Wiederbeschaffungswert (fully and properly repaired, proven by invoice) or up to the residual-value-adjusted Wiederbeschaffungswert otherwise. Choosing Werkstattbindung (repair at a partner workshop) reduces the deductible and adds free courtesy services; in the compact tariff, Werkstattbindung is mandatory.
Theft / robbery, incl. key and lock replacement
€2,500
Only in classic, comfort
Theft, robbery and unauthorized use of the vehicle are core Teilkasko perils included in all three tariffs, compensated up to the Wiederbeschaffungswert/tier ceiling. In addition, costs for replacing locks, keys or re-coding after a break-in or robbery are reimbursed up to €2,500; this supplementary benefit is available in the classic and comfort tariffs but not in compact.
Glass breakage
Covered
Breakage of windows, mirrors and light-lens glass is covered as a core Teilkasko peril in all three tariffs (excludes camera/sensor/display glass). Resulting interior cleaning costs are reimbursed up to €50, and replacement of a vignette/emissions sticker destroyed by the glass breakage up to €100.
Natural perils / power-surge follow-on damage
€10,000 – €20,000
Only in classic, comfort
Storm, hail, lightning strike, flood, avalanche and collision with animals are core Teilkasko perils included in all three tariffs. Extended natural perils (earthquake, volcanic eruption, mudslide, roof avalanches) are not included in compact but are included in classic and comfort. Follow-on power-surge (lightning) damage to wiring/electronics is covered up to €10,000 in classic and €20,000 in comfort; not available in compact.
Vandalism (malicious damage)
Conditional
Damage from accidents or vandalism/malicious acts by unauthorized third parties is covered under Vollkasko (comprehensive) in all three tariffs, up to the Wiederbeschaffungswert/tier ceiling; this cover activates only when Vollkasko (not Teilkasko-only) is selected.
Roadside assistance (Schutzbrief)
€250 – €1,500
The Schutzbrief is a separately purchased, legally independent add-on (sold alongside MTPL) covering breakdown/accident assistance: restoring drivability up to €250, towing up to €250 (€400 for campers/vans up to 3.5t), recovery/salvage up to €1,500, plus incorrect-fuel assistance up to €500 and key/replacement-key courier costs up to €110. Benefit depth varies by the underlying tariff variant chosen for the Schutzbrief.
Replacement vehicle (Mobilitätspolice)
€14
Only in classic, comfort
The Mobilitätspolice is an optional add-on (Pkw only) providing a same-class rental car nationwide within Germany for up to 14 days following an insured Kasko total loss, breakdown-related immobilization, or theft. Not available in the compact tariff. Separately, choosing Werkstattbindung already includes a free courtesy car (at least small-car category) for the repair duration at partner workshops.
Driver accident protection (Fahrerschutz)
€1,000,000
Fahrerschutzversicherung is an optional add-on (Pkw/Campingfahrzeuge, in conjunction with MTPL) compensating the driver's own personal injury as if a third party were liable, e.g. lost income (up to €2,000/month for 12 months), rehabilitation (up to €50,000), disability-related conversions (up to €50,000) and funeral costs (up to €3,500), subject to an overall cap of €1,000,000 per claim event.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
Standard Kasko cover does not set a fixed minimum driver age, but the Sondereinstufung into SF class 3 requires all drivers to have completed their 23rd year of age, and the same 23-year threshold applies to the optional Rabattschutz (no-claims protection) add-on.
Repair network requirements
Policyholders can opt for Werkstattbindung, committing to repair at one of over 1,400 partner workshops after a Kasko claim; this reduces the deductible by €75 (partial-casco claims over €250) or €150 (full-casco claims over €500), waives the deductible for windscreen repairs, and adds free pick-up/drop-off, a courtesy car, cleaning, and a minimum 2-year repair warranty. Werkstattbindung is mandatory in the compact tariff and optional in classic/comfort; repair at a non-partner workshop without submitting an invoice is settled at the partner-workshop estimate, and with an invoice is capped at 85% of the equivalent partner-workshop cost. These rules apply only to claims within Germany.
Territorial scope
Kasko cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU; this is narrower than the MTPL cover, which additionally includes countries on the international (green) insurance card.
Anti-theft requirements
No anti-theft device is mandatory for Kasko cover, but a premium discount is granted if the policyholder proves installation of an approved measure such as forensic Auto-DNA marking or a passive, hidden battery-powered GPS tracking system.
Claim notification deadline
Claims must generally be reported within one week. Theft of the vehicle or insured parts must be reported to the insurer immediately in text form, and to the police without delay if a theft, fire or animal-collision loss exceeds €500.
Deductible rules
A deductible, if agreed, is subtracted from every claim payment. Compact-tariff Kasko cannot be bought without a deductible, while classic and comfort allow zero-deductible cover. Repair at a partner workshop reduces the deductible by €75 (partial casco over €250) or €150 (full casco over €500, excluding glass), and the deductible is waived entirely for windscreen repair (as opposed to replacement) at a partner glass specialist.
