Key conditions
Driver age experience limit
No explicit minimum age or experience requirement stated in the Allianz Direct policy conditions (05/2025). The general obligation applies that the driver must hold the required driving licence for the vehicle class (Teil B Ziffer 8). Gross negligence waivers and coverage reductions apply regardless of age.The AKB does not impose a minimum driver age or minimum experience requirement for Kasko coverage itself. However, the age of the youngest driver (Alter des jüngsten Fahrers) is a premium-rating factor (Anhang 2, Ziff. 1.5). Young-driver surcharges apply via standard tariff structure. Special initial classification into SF-½ for young drivers under 25 in training or education is available under qualifying conditions (AKB I.2.2.1).No explicit minimum driver age requirement stated in the AKB for casco coverage. However, Rabattschutz (discount protection) is only available if the youngest driver has completed their 23rd year of life (AKB L.4). Drivers under 23 generally lead to higher premiums due to tariff group classification (AKB K.5, K.7).No minimum driver age is specified in the casco policy terms (AKB). The policy does not restrict coverage based on driver age. However, the first classification for new policies starts at SF class 0 (no claims history) or SF class 1/2 (if specific conditions met). A special rule for driving license holders allows upgrading from SF 0 to a higher class after 3 years of license ownership if the policy has been claim-free.
Repair network requirements
Repairs must be carried out in an Allianz Direct-selected partner workshop. The insured must contact Allianz Direct before the repair. If the insured chooses a different workshop without justification, reimbursement is reduced to 70% of the required and actual repair costs. If optional free workshop choice (Teil A.3) is selected, the insured may choose any suitable specialist workshop freely without reduction, but will not receive a replacement vehicle. If the policyholder agrees to Werkstattbindung (workshop binding), Debeka selects a suitable DEKRA-certified partner workshop from its network of over 1,400 workshops in Germany and covers repair costs in full. If the policyholder uses a different workshop, only 85% of eligible actual repair costs are reimbursed. Workshop binding leads to a significant premium reduction. For leased vehicles and Tesla vehicles, workshop binding service is not available (AKB A.2.8.4, official insurer website). With the optional Werkstattbonus module (workshop binding), the insured must allow ERGO to select the repair workshop. ERGO arranges a certified premium workshop (TÜV Süd and DEKRA certified). The repair is carried out according to manufacturer guidelines with original parts, with a 6-year guarantee on all work. A pick-up and delivery service (Hol- und Bringservice) is included. If the vehicle is repaired at a non-designated workshop, the compensation is reduced by 20%, minimum EUR 100. Without Werkstattbonus, the insured has free choice of workshop.Under WerkstattservicePLUS (workshop binding, agreed at contract inception): Generali selects the repair workshop from its partner network. If the policyholder independently selects a workshop without prior contact to Generali, reimbursement is reduced to 85% of the calculated repair costs. Additional services (transport to/from workshop, replacement vehicle, interior/exterior cleaning, free return transport within 50 km) are forfeited if the policyholder's own workshop is used. Workshop binding does not apply when: total loss is determined, or the loss occurred outside Germany and repair is not performed in Germany. Without workshop binding, the policyholder may freely choose any workshop.
Territorial scope
Insurance coverage applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the extra-European territories belonging to the European Union's area of application. With an international insurance card (green card), coverage also extends to the non-European countries listed therein that are not crossed out.Kasko coverage is valid within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the European Union (AKB A.2.5). The Green Card (Internationale Versicherungskarte) extends Kfz-Haftpflicht coverage to named non-European countries (AKB A.1.4.2). Werkstattbindung provisions apply only for claims in Germany or foreign accidents repaired subsequently in Germany (AKB A.2.8.4).Insurance coverage applies within the geographical borders of Europe and in non-European territories belonging to the scope of the European Union. For Kfz-Haftpflicht, higher mandatory coverage in foreign countries is automatically applied. The Auslandsschadenschutz (foreign accident protection) for Vollkasko is available as an optional module (Ersatzfahrzeug Plus) covering accidents abroad caused by a foreign-insured vehicle.Coverage applies within the geographical borders of Europe as well as non-European territories belonging to the European Union's area of application (per AKB A.2.4). This includes all EU member states and their overseas territories within the EU's jurisdiction.
Anti theft requirements
No explicit anti-theft device requirement is stated in the Allianz Direct policy conditions (05/2025). However, the insured has a general duty to minimise loss (Schadenminderungspflicht). Gross negligence enabling theft is excluded from the gross negligence waiver; the insurer may reduce its payment proportionally in such cases. No specific anti-theft device requirements are mandated in the AKB as a condition of coverage. However, coverage for unauthorized use is excluded if the perpetrator is entitled to use the vehicle or was tasked with its care. Embezzlement (Unterschlagung) is excluded unless the perpetrator did not receive the vehicle for their own use, for sale, or under a retention of title arrangement. Gross negligence in enabling theft (e.g. leaving keys in an unlocked car) may result in a proportional reduction of indemnity (AKB A.2.17.1, A.2.2.2).No specific anti-theft device requirements are stated in the AKB as a condition for casco theft coverage. However, items stored outside the vehicle must be kept under lock (unter Verschluss) to be covered (e.g. a spare set of wheels, charging cables). During the rest insurance (Ruheversicherung) period, the vehicle must be stored in a locked garage or enclosed parking space. For PKW, taxis, rental cars, self-drive hire vehicles, and camping vehicles: if the vehicle was not equipped with a self-arming electronic immobilizer at the time of theft, indemnification for destruction or loss due to theft is reduced by 10%. The deductible rules remain unaffected by this reduction.
Claim notification deadline
In the Kaskoversicherung, the insured must report every loss event that may give rise to a claim immediately (unverzüglich). In the event of theft of the vehicle, vehicle parts or accessories, the insured must notify Allianz Direct and the police immediately. Theft, fire or wildlife damage exceeding 500 EUR must be reported to police immediately. The insured must also obtain Allianz Direct's instructions before beginning repair or disposal.Every claim event that may lead to a Debeka payment must be reported within one week (E.1.1). In the event of vehicle theft, notification must be made immediately (unverzüglich) in writing/text form (E.3.1). For fire, theft, or game-collision claims exceeding EUR 1,000 in damage, a police report must be filed immediately (E.3.3). Payment is made within 2 weeks of determining payment obligation and indemnity amount; in theft cases, not before one month after claim notification (AKB E.1.1, E.3.1, E.3.3, A.2.15).Every claim event must be reported to ERGO immediately (unverzüglich). In case of theft, the notice must be in writing (text form: letter, fax, email). For theft, fire, or animal collision claims, the police must also be notified immediately. If the vehicle is recovered within one month of the claim report, the insured must take it back if reasonably possible. The damage claims service is reachable 24/7 at 0800 3746-310 or via www.ergo.de (AKB H.5).General obligation: every loss event must be reported to Generali within one week (E.1.1.1). For vehicle theft or theft of insured parts: immediate written notification required (deviating from general rule, per E.1.3.1). Police report required if theft loss, fire loss, or loss from animal collision exceeds EUR 500 (E.1.3.3). Before beginning repair or disposal of the vehicle: Generali's instructions must be obtained where circumstances permit (E.1.3.2). For theft, robbery, arson, explosion and wildlife collision losses: immediate police notification is required. Failure to comply with notification duties may lead to reduction or denial of coverage.
Deductible rules
A deductible (Selbstbeteiligung) is applied per insured event if agreed in the policy (visible in the insurance certificate). No deductible is applied if a glass damage repair is carried out without replacing the pane. The standard example deductible shown in product communications is 500 EUR for Vollkasko and 150 EUR for Teilkasko, though other amounts can be agreed. A higher deductible reduces the premium. In Teilkasko: policyholder can choose between EUR 0 and EUR 150 excess per claim event. In Vollkasko: choice of EUR 150, EUR 300, EUR 500 or EUR 1,000 excess per claim event. The applicable excess is deducted from every indemnity payment. Exception: windscreen chip repairs carried out by a Debeka partner workshop (not via glass replacement) are settled without excess deduction (AKB A.2.13, official insurer FAQ).The agreed deductible is deducted from each claim settlement. The level of deductible can be found in the insurance certificate. Multiple vehicles on one contract each carry the deductible separately per vehicle and per claim. For windshield repair (not replacement), the deductible is waived provided repair costs do not exceed the agreed deductible. For Vollkasko claims arising from accidents abroad with a non-German-insured vehicle (where the other party is at full fault), the deductible is also waived. If a deductible is agreed, it is deducted separately for each insured vehicle and each loss event (AKB A.2.5.9.1). Exception: if glass damage is remedied by repair (not replacement), repair costs are reimbursed without applying the deductible (A.2.5.9.2). Under Vollkasko Premium, the deductible does not apply to mobile navigation devices (A.2.5.9.4). For Schutzbrief (roadside assistance) claims within the casco policy, no deductible applies (A.2.5.9.3). The amount of the deductible is specified in the insurance certificate; typical range is EUR 150 to EUR 1,000 depending on vehicle and tariff selection.
Proof and next steps
Direct payment policy
Allianz Direct does not offer direct payment to repair shops as a standard feature; repairs are conducted at a workshop chosen by Allianz Direct, with the policyholder placing the repair order themselves. If the insured chooses a workshop outside the partner network without justification, reimbursement is reduced to 70% of the required and actual repair costs.Debeka pays repair costs directly to the workshop when workshop binding (Werkstattbindung) is agreed; otherwise, reimbursement is made to the policyholder upon presentation of the repair invoice. In total loss or theft cases, Debeka pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) minus residual value to the policyholder within 2 weeks of determining the claim amount (AKB A.2.15). No direct payment to third parties for own-vehicle damage.ERGO pays repair costs directly to the certified workshop when the Werkstattbonus module is selected; for claims without workshop binding, ERGO pays the policyholder after damage assessment. Payment is made within two weeks of establishing liability and settlement amount.Generali pays the insured directly after determining liability and loss amount; payment within two weeks of determination. For theft cases, payment no earlier than one month after written claim notification. Advance payments available upon request if liability is established but amount undetermined within one month.
