DBV Deutsche Beamtenversicherung (branches of AXA Versicherung AG, AXA Lebensversicherung AG and AXA Krankenversicherung AG)
DBV
DBV is a motor casco insurance for the Germany market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
If the Schadenservice Basis module is agreed, the policyholder assigns the workshop claim to a DBV/AXA partner workshop and pays the agreed deductible directly to that workshop; the insurer settles the remainder directly. Otherwise, indemnity is paid within two weeks once liability and amount are established, with reasonable advance payments available if the amount cannot be determined within one month; VAT is only reimbursed if actually incurred.
Geographic scope
Germany
Casco cover applies within the geographical borders of Europe and the non-European territories that belong to the European Union.
Unique selling points
- New customers switching to DBV mobil komfort or mobil kompakt receive a 10% welcome discount on the premium.
- The mobil komfort Vollkasko includes an all-risk cover (Allgefahrendeckung) protecting against practically all conceivable types of damage, beyond the standard collision/vandalism perils.
- Consequential damage from animal bites is capped at EUR 3,000 in mobil kompakt but unlimited in mobil komfort — well above typical market caps.
- No deductible is charged when a cracked windscreen is repaired instead of replaced, encouraging cheaper glass fixes.
- Choosing the partner-workshop network (Schadenservice Basis) can cut the casco premium by up to 15% and comes with up to a 6-year repair guarantee.
Coverage limits
Own damage to the insured vehicle (Casco)
Not established from the insurer's documents
Casco covers damage, destruction, total loss or loss of the insured vehicle caused by the perils insured under Teilkasko (partial casco) or Vollkasko (comprehensive casco). The maximum indemnity is capped at the vehicle's new price (Neupreis) rather than a fixed sum, and is reduced by any agreed deductible and residual value.
Total loss, destruction or loss of the vehicle
Not established from the insurer's documents
On total loss, destruction or loss, DBV pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) less any residual value. New-price compensation applies within 12 months of first registration for passenger cars (6 months for other vehicle types) if there is total loss/destruction/loss or repair costs reach at least 80% of the new price and the insured is the original buyer. For used cars, purchase-value compensation applies for total loss within the first 12 months after first registration. GAP cover tops up the difference to the outstanding leasing balance for leased passenger cars/vans up to 3.5t with Vollkasko.
Partial damage / repair costs
Not established from the insurer's documents
If the vehicle is damaged, DBV pays the necessary repair costs up to the replacement value; towing and recovery to the nearest suitable workshop is included within the same ceiling. A deduction for age/wear (new-for-old) applies to replaced parts and repainting, limited to tyres if the loss occurs within the first three or four years after first registration (depending on vehicle type). No deductible is charged if a cracked windscreen is repaired rather than replaced.
Theft and robbery
Not established from the insurer's documents
Teilkasko covers theft, robbery and surrender of the vehicle due to extortion. Embezzlement is only covered if the offender was not given the vehicle for use, sale or under reservation of title; unauthorised use is only covered if the offender had absolutely no entitlement to use the vehicle. Coverage of key theft/loss differs by tariff: mobil kompakt excludes cover for stolen keys, while mobil komfort covers lock/ignition replacement costs if keys are stolen through robbery or burglary.
Glass breakage
Not established from the insurer's documents
Teilkasko covers breakage of the vehicle's glazing (windscreen, rear/roof/side/partition glass, mirror glass, light covers); consequential damage is excluded. On windscreen replacement, DBV reimburses proven costs for a new environmental sticker up to EUR 10. No deductible is charged if the windscreen is repaired rather than replaced (A.2.5.8.3).
Storm, hail, lightning and flood damage
Not established from the insurer's documents
Teilkasko covers direct impact of storm (wind force 8 or above), hail, lightning, flooding, avalanches, roof avalanches and mudslides on the vehicle, including objects thrown onto/against the vehicle by these forces; damage resulting from driver behaviour caused by these events is excluded.
Malicious damage / vandalism by third parties
Not established from the insurer's documents
Malicious or spiteful damage caused by persons with absolutely no entitlement to use the vehicle is covered only under Vollkasko (comprehensive casco, A.2.2.2.3); this peril is not included if only Teilkasko (partial casco) is held.
Roadside assistance / breakdown help
Not established from the insurer's documents
Roadside assistance (breakdown recovery, towing, key/fuel mishap help) is provided by the Schutzbrief, which becomes part of the casco contract only if the optional Mobilitätsgarantie module is added (A.2.2.4); it is not automatically part of base Teilkasko or Vollkasko.
Replacement vehicle
Not established from the insurer's documents
Under the optional Mobilitätsgarantie module, if repair or restoring roadworthiness takes longer than four hours, DBV arranges a replacement vehicle (group A) for up to 14 days (for repair, or for replacement procurement after theft/total loss/destruction); abroad, costs for the trip home are covered up to EUR 525. If no replacement vehicle can be provided, a EUR 25 per day compensation applies instead.
Driver accident cover
Not established from the insurer's documents
Accident cover for the driver is not part of casco itself but is available as a separate, paid add-on to the Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung: the Fahrerschutzversicherung (A.5) pays as if a third party were liable, e.g. pain and suffering compensation up to EUR 100,000, loss of earnings up to EUR 2,000/month, maintenance claims up to EUR 1,500/month, household help up to EUR 500/month, disability-adapted conversions up to EUR 100,000, and other increased needs up to EUR 1,000/month, subject to a minimum 3-day hospital stay within six months of the accident. A separate Kfz-Unfallversicherung (A.4) with agreed sums insured is also available.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
If the driver is 17 years old (accompanied driving), the vehicle may not be driven without the legally prescribed accompanying person, and the accompanying person must not be impaired by alcohol or other intoxicants (D.1.3.1). Premiums also vary by the age/experience of additional named users (Nutzerklasse), but there is no absolute age limit to be insured under casco.
Repair network requirements
Repair via a DBV/AXA partner workshop is optional (Baustein Schadenservice Basis): the claim is assigned to the partner workshop and the deductible is paid directly to it. Using a non-partner workshop increases the agreed deductible by EUR 250 for glass damage and EUR 500 for other damage. Choosing workshop binding can grant a premium discount of up to 15% and includes a repair guarantee of up to 6 years.
Territorial scope
Casco cover applies within the geographical borders of Europe and the non-European territories that belong to the European Union (A.2.4); unlike MTPL, there is no separate Green Card extension for casco.
Anti-theft requirements
No specific anti-theft device (e.g., immobiliser) is mandated by the terms. However, the deductible for a claim increases by EUR 500 if the vehicle was not parked overnight (10pm-6am) in a garage as required by the agreed parking-place class (Stellplatzklasse 1 or 2) and this affected the occurrence or extent of the loss (A.2.5.8.2).
Claim notification deadline
General claims must be reported within one week (E.1.1.1). Theft/loss of the vehicle or mitinsured parts must be reported immediately in text form (E.1.3.1); glass breakage must be reported immediately (E.1.3.2). Theft, fire or animal-bite damage exceeding EUR 500 must be reported to the police without delay (E.1.3.4).
Deductible rules
A contractual deductible is deducted from each claim as stated in the policy schedule (A.2.5.8.1). It increases by EUR 500 if an unauthorised driver caused a collision/animal-strike claim, or if the vehicle was not parked in the agreed garage class overnight and this affected the loss (A.2.5.8.2). Using a non-partner workshop under Schadenservice Basis adds EUR 250 (glass) or EUR 500 (other damage) to the deductible. No deductible applies if a windscreen crack is repaired rather than replaced (A.2.5.8.3).
