Direct payment

die Bayerische settles claims by cash compensation up to the replacement value or applicable repair-cost cap; it is not obliged to pay a workshop directly unless the optional Werkstatt-Service has been agreed, in which case the policyholder is bound to a partner workshop.

Geographic scope

Europe and non-European territories of the EU

Coverage applies within the geographic boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the European Union.

Unique selling points

  • A Best-Leistungs-Garantie automatically extends cover, for a small surcharge, to match better-performing benefits found in an equivalent competitor motor tariff.
  • Electric and hybrid vehicles get an AllRisk cover for the battery plus new-value compensation for the battery if it is damaged within the applicable new-vehicle period.
  • Vollkasko cover includes vandalism damage caused by a hacking attack directed at the insured vehicle, going beyond standard vandalism cover.
  • Car policyholders who present a valid Bahncard when filing a claim get their deductible reduced by up to €150.
  • Komfort/Prestige policyholders can have one minor parked-car scratch or dent repaired via Smart-Repair each calendar year.

Coverage limits

Own vehicle damage (Kasko)

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko

Covers damage, destruction, total loss or loss of the insured vehicle from perils defined under partial comprehensive (Teilkasko) and, if agreed, full comprehensive (Vollkasko) cover.

Source

Total loss / theft settlement

Covered

Total loss, destruction or loss is settled at replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) minus residual value. New-value compensation applies for cars if total loss occurs within 18 months (Komfort tariff) or 36 months (Prestige tariff) of first registration, and within 24 months for motorcycles; theft payout is reduced by 10% unless the vehicle has a self-sharpening electronic immobiliser.

Source

Partial damage / repair costs

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko

Repair costs are reimbursed up to the replacement value if the vehicle is fully and properly repaired; otherwise up to the replacement value less residual value, calculated using partner-workshop average labour rates if no repair invoice is provided.

Source

Theft and robbery

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko

Covers theft, robbery, extortion-related surrender of the vehicle, and (under conditions) embezzlement and unauthorised use; for electric/hybrid vehicles on the Komfort/Prestige tariff, or motorcycles, theft of the charging cable during charging is also covered.

Source

Glass breakage

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko, Prestige

Covers breakage of the vehicle's glazing; the deductible is waived if the pane is repaired rather than replaced, and no notional (fiktive) settlement is possible. The Prestige tariff additionally covers the cost of light bulbs damaged in the same event.

Source

Natural hazards (storm, hail, lightning, flood, avalanche)

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko

Covers direct impact of storm (wind force 8 or above), hail, lightning, flood, avalanches or mudslides on the vehicle, including objects thrown onto or against the vehicle by these forces; earthquake damage is excluded.

Source

Vandalism (incl. hacking attacks)

Covered

Only in Vollkasko

Vollkasko cover extends to malicious or mischievous acts by unauthorised persons, including damage caused by a hacking attack directed immediately at the insured vehicle (not covered if the attack instead targets a manufacturer's server or digital platform).

Roadside assistance (Autoschutzbrief)

Optional

Available as a separate, legally independent Autoschutzbrief contract providing breakdown and accident assistance: roadside repair up to €100, towing up to €200 (net of roadside-repair costs), plus extended assistance (rental car, overnight stay, vehicle storage) once the breakdown site is more than 50 km from the policyholder's home.

Source

Replacement vehicle / rental car

€50

Under the Autoschutzbrief, a rental car is arranged at up to €50 per day for a maximum of 7 days domestically (up to €350 total abroad), provided neither the return/onward-journey benefit nor the overnight-stay benefit has been used instead.

Source

Vehicle occupant accident cover

Optional

Available as a separate, legally independent Kfz-Unfallversicherung (lump-sum cover per seat/occupant) or Fahrer-Unfallversicherung (actual-loss cover for the driver); the insured sum is stated in the policy schedule.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

No general minimum age applies for Kasko eligibility itself, but certain premium reductions (e.g., extended animal-collision cover, Rabattschutz) require all drivers to be at least 23 years old.

Repair network requirements

The workshop can generally be chosen freely, unless the optional Werkstatt-Service (partner-workshop commitment) has been agreed for the vehicle; in that case, claims must be assessed and repaired at a partner workshop, and repairs at a freely chosen workshop are reimbursed only at partner-workshop average labour rates.

Territorial scope

Kasko cover applies within the geographic boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the European Union; unlike Kfz-Haftpflicht, Kasko cover cannot be extended to non-European countries via the International Motor Insurance Card.

Anti-theft requirements

In the event of theft of a car, compensation is reduced by 10% unless the vehicle was secured by a self-sharpening electronic immobiliser at the time of the theft.

Claim notification deadline

Any claim event must generally be reported within one week; theft or loss of the vehicle must be reported immediately in text form, and theft, fire or animal-collision damage exceeding EUR 500 must also be reported to the police without delay.

Deductible rules

An agreed deductible (Selbstbeteiligung) is deducted from the claim payment for each event; it is waived for glass claims settled by repair rather than replacement, and it is reduced by up to €150 for car policyholders who hold a valid Bahncard and present it when filing the claim.
