Mecklenburgische Insurance Company on a Mutual Basis (Mecklenburgische Versicherungs-Gesellschaft auf Gegenseitigkeit)
Mecklenburgische
Mecklenburgische is a motor casco insurance for the Germany market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
If repairs are carried out at a Mecklenburgische partner workshop, the insurer settles the repair cost directly with the workshop and the policyholder pays only the deductible directly to the workshop after completion; otherwise, reimbursement is paid to the policyholder based on invoices or, for unrepaired/incompletely repaired vehicles, on a fictitious (assessed) settlement basis.
Geographic scope
Europe and the non-European territories that form part of the EU; extendable to further non-European countries listed on an issued International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card)
Cover applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and EU non-European territories (A.2.4.1); scope extends per the Green Card if issued (A.2.4.2/A.1.4.2)
Unique selling points
- The Komfortdeckung's Fahrer-Versicherung pays out for the driver's own injury even in a self-caused accident — a benefit most base motor policies exclude.
- New-price compensation for new vehicles is extended from the industry-typical 12 months to 36 months under Komfortdeckung.
- Dedicated EV/hybrid protection: All-Risk cover for the drive battery in Vollkasko, up to €1,000 for a fixed home wallbox, and unintentional battery discharge treated as a breakdown rather than a damage claim.
- Customers with an electric-drive vehicle receive an attractive premium discount.
- Roadside/breakdown assistance and towing costs are covered without a euro cap when the claim is reported via the 24/7 emergency hotline, rather than being limited to the standard €150/€200 figures.
Coverage limits
Own vehicle damage (comprehensive cover)
Covered
Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko
Covers damage to, destruction of, or loss of the insured vehicle (and co-insured accessories) arising from the perils listed under Teilkasko and, if Vollkasko is agreed, additionally from accident and vandalism. The maximum indemnity in all cases is capped at the new-list price of the vehicle (Neupreis), not a fixed monetary sum (A.2.1.1, A.2.5.6).
Total loss, destruction or loss of the vehicle
Covered
Only in Grunddeckung, Komfortdeckung
Pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) less any residual value (A.2.5.1.1). For new Pkw, motorcycles, light motorcycles, trikes and quads, the full new price is paid instead if a total loss/loss occurs within 12 months of first registration (base cover, A.2.5.1.2a); under Komfortdeckung this window is extended to 36 months for Pkw and includes transfer costs up to €500 (A.7.5.9a).
Partial damage / repair costs
Covered
Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko
If the vehicle is fully and properly repaired, the required repair costs are paid up to the replacement value (A.2.5.2.1a). If not repaired, or not fully/properly repaired, payment is capped at the replacement value less residual value (A.2.5.2.1b). Repair at a Mecklenburgische partner workshop reduces the applicable deductible (A.7.5.13) and adds a courtesy vehicle, cleaning and transport benefits (A.2.5.2.4).
Theft and robbery
Covered
Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko
Covers theft, robbery, surrender of the vehicle due to robbery-related extortion, limited embezzlement, and limited unauthorised use, as well as damage caused during a completed or attempted theft (A.2.2.1.2). Compensation is reduced by 10% for total loss/loss of a Pkw, camper van, rental car or taxi through theft unless the vehicle had a self-arming electronic immobiliser (A.2.5.1.4). Capped by the general new-price/replacement-value limit, not a separate fixed sum.
Glass breakage
Covered
Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko
Covers breakage of glass and plastic panes (windscreen, rear, roof, side and partition windows), mirror glass and light-fitting covers, plus replacement bulbs (incl. xenon/LED), toll and environmental badges, calibration and interior-cleaning costs; consequential damage is excluded (A.2.2.1.5). No deductible is charged if repaired (not replaced) at a partner workshop; the deductible is reduced by €75 if glass is replaced at a specialised partner glass workshop (A.2.5.8).
Natural hazards (storm, hail, flood, avalanche, earthquake etc.)
Covered
Only in Grunddeckung, Komfortdeckung
Base Teilkasko covers direct impact of storm (wind force 8+), hail, lightning, flooding, roof/mountain avalanche and landslide (A.2.2.1.3). Under Komfortdeckung, cover is extended to also include earth subsidence, earthquake and volcanic eruption within Teilkasko (A.7.5.6); these three perils are otherwise excluded under A.2.9.4 in base cover.
Vandalism (malicious damage)
Conditional
Only in Vollkasko
Malicious or spiteful acts by persons not entitled to use the vehicle are covered, but only within Vollkasko (A.2.2.2.3); Teilkasko-only contracts do not cover vandalism/accident damage.
Roadside assistance / breakdown cover (Autoschutzbrief)
€200
Sold as a separate, legally independent contract (Autoschutzbrief) alongside Kfz-Haftpflicht and Kasko. On-site breakdown/accident assistance is covered up to €150 and towing to the nearest suitable workshop up to €200 (net of any assistance already used); both costs are covered without a euro limit if the event is reported via the 24/7 emergency hotline (0800 8569910 / +49 511 53517300) and Mecklenburgische organises the service itself (A.3.5 a, A.3.5 b).
Replacement/courtesy vehicle
Conditional
Within Kasko, a courtesy vehicle of the smallest class is provided free of charge for the duration of the repair, but only if the repair is carried out at a Mecklenburgische partner workshop and the case is not a total loss or a glass-only claim (A.2.5.2.4 b). Separately, under the optional Autoschutzbrief, self-drive rental-car costs are reimbursed up to €85/day (max. 7 days), up to €750 in total if the loss occurs abroad, or a flat €120 for accidents under 50 km from home (A.3.5 f, A.3.5 m).
Driver accident cover (Fahrer-Versicherung)
€15,000,000
Only in Komfortdeckung
Available only as part of the chargeable Komfortdeckung (an extension of the Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung, not a standalone casco benefit): covers personal injury suffered by the authorised employed or self-employed driver in an accident while driving the insured Pkw, even where the driver is at fault. Payment is based on tort-law principles up to the agreed liability sum for personal injury (up to €15,000,000 per injured person in the pauschal scheme); no pain-and-suffering (Schmerzensgeld) claim and no legal costs are covered, and cover excludes drivers outside the agreed circle of drivers (A.7.2, A.7.3, A.7.2.4, A.7.2.6 g; Kundeninformation comparison table).
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
No fixed minimum age or driving-experience threshold is stated for casco cover as such. The vehicle may only be used by an authorised driver holding the licence required (D.1.1.2, D.1.1.3); accompanied-driving rules apply where legally required (D.1.3). Policyholder age and the youngest driver's age are used as annually-reviewed premium factors (J.8, Anhang 2), and the optional Fahrer-Versicherung under Komfortdeckung excludes drivers outside the agreed circle of drivers (A.7.2.6 g).
Repair network requirements
Standard casco cover does not require repairs at a partner workshop, but reduced deductibles and extra benefits (courtesy car, interior/exterior cleaning, transport) apply only if repairs are carried out at a Mecklenburgische partner workshop (A.2.5.2.4, A.7.5.13). If the special Partner-Kaskoversicherung variant (A.15) is agreed, repairing outside the partner network reduces reimbursement to 85% of the amount otherwise payable, and this variant applies only to damage occurring within Germany (A.15.3.2, A.15.4).
Territorial scope
Cover applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories forming part of the EU (A.2.4.1); if an International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card) has been issued, cover extends to the further non-European countries listed on it that are not crossed out (A.2.4.2, A.1.4.2).
Anti-theft requirements
Compensation for total loss, destruction or loss of a Pkw, camper van, rental car or taxi through theft is reduced by 10% unless the vehicle was fitted with a self-arming electronic immobiliser at the time of the theft; this reduction applies in addition to any agreed deductible (A.2.5.1.4).
Claim notification deadline
Any event that may give rise to a claim must be reported within one week (E.1.1.1). Theft or loss of the vehicle or co-insured parts must be reported without delay and in text form (E.1.3.1), and theft, fire or animal-damage losses exceeding €500 must additionally be reported to the police without delay (E.1.3.3).
Deductible rules
The agreed deductible (stated in the policy schedule, not fixed in the AKB) is deducted from every claim, including against any applicable maximum indemnity limit (A.2.5.8). No deductible applies to glass-breakage repairs (as opposed to replacement) at a partner workshop, and the deductible is reduced by €75 for glass replacement at a specialised partner glass workshop. Repairs carried out at a Mecklenburgische partner workshop under Komfortdeckung reduce the deductible by €100 in Vollkasko or €50 in Teilkasko (A.7.5.13).
