Direct payment

If you agree to the 'Werkstattservice', the insurer selects the repair workshop, issues the repair order coordination and pays the repair costs directly to the workshop; if you bypass this without prior contact, the benefit is reduced to 85% of the calculated amount.

Geographic scope

Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU

Cover applies within the geographical borders of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU; the scope can be extended by separate agreement, and an International Insurance Card extends cover to the non-crossed-out countries listed on it.

Unique selling points

  • Liability cover up to 100 million EUR for property/financial damage and 15 million EUR for personal injury applies across all three main tariffs, well above German statutory minimums.
  • The E-Vollkasko Premium offers an All-Risk battery guarantee for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, covering virtually all causes of battery damage except normal wear and manufacturer defects.
  • Premium and E-Vollkasko Premium tiers cover 'Eigenschäden' — damage you cause to your own other VGH-insured vehicles, campers or buildings — up to 100,000 EUR per year, a benefit many competitors do not include.
  • E-Vollkasko Premium insures wall-mounted and mobile home charging stations up to 3,000 EUR each, plus charging cards and induction charging plates.
  • New-price compensation (Neupreisentschädigung) is extended up to 36 months after first registration in the Premium and E-Vollkasko Premium tiers, well beyond the market-typical 12 months.

Coverage limits

Damage to the Insured Vehicle

Covered

Only in Basis, Komfort, Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium

The insured vehicle is covered against damage, destruction, total loss or loss caused by the perils listed for Teilkasko or Vollkasko; there is no fixed sum insured, but our maximum payout is capped at the vehicle's new price (Neupreis).

Source

Total Loss, Destruction or Loss of the Vehicle

Covered

Only in Basis, Komfort, Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium

In case of total loss, destruction or loss of the vehicle we pay the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) less any residual value; for new Pkw/motorcycles a new-price indemnity applies if the loss occurs within 18 months (Komfort/Premium/E-Premium) or 3 months (Basis) of first registration and repair costs reach at least 80% of the new price.

Partial Damage / Repair Costs

Covered

Only in Basis, Komfort, Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium

If the vehicle is damaged and fully and properly repaired, the necessary repair costs are paid up to the replacement value; if not fully or not properly repaired, costs are paid up to the replacement value less the determined residual value.

Theft, Robbery and Embezzlement

Covered

Only in Basis, Komfort, Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium

Theft, robbery, surrender of the vehicle due to robbery-related extortion, and (under conditions) embezzlement and unauthorised use are covered under Teilkasko in all tiers; the theft of vehicle keys is also treated as theft of the vehicle.

Glass Breakage and Glass Repair

Covered

Only in Basis, Komfort, Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium

Breakage of vehicle glazing (windscreen, rear/side/roof/partition glass, mirror glass, light covers) is covered in all tiers; if a professional repair is chosen instead of replacement, any agreed deductible is waived entirely.

Natural Perils (Storm, Hail, Lightning, Flood, Avalanches, Landslides)

Covered

Only in Basis, Komfort, Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium

Storm (wind force 8+), hail, lightning strike, flood, avalanches, landslides and subsidence are covered under Teilkasko in all tiers. Earthquake and volcanic eruption are covered in Komfort, Premium and E-Vollkasko Premium but explicitly excluded in the Basis tier.

Vandalism and Hit-and-Run by a Third Party

Conditional

Only in Vollkasko Basis, Vollkasko Komfort, Vollkasko Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium

Vandalism and hit-and-run damage caused by an unauthorised third party are covered only under Vollkasko (activated in all four Vollkasko tiers: Basis, Komfort, Premium, E-Vollkasko Premium); Teilkasko-only contracts do not include this cover.

Roadside Assistance / Pick-up and Delivery Service

Optional

Kasko does not include roadside assistance itself; comparable help (Pannenhilfe, towing, recovery) is only available via the separately purchasable Autoschutzbrief, which can only be attached to the Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung, not to Casco alone. Within Kasko, an optional 'Werkstattservice mobil' provides a pick-up/delivery service to the chosen workshop within a 30 km radius.

Source

Replacement Vehicle / Mobility Guarantee

Optional

Under the optional 'Werkstattservice mobil' (available even without a full Werkstattservice agreement), the insurer keeps you mobile in the smallest vehicle class up to 50 km per day for claims in Germany; this is distinct from the Autoschutzbrief rental-car benefit (max. 7 days / 350 EUR), which is an MTPL-linked add-on, not part of Casco.

Driver/Occupant Accident Protection

€15,000,000

Driver-injury protection (Fahrerschutzversicherung) and occupant accident cover (Kfz-Unfallversicherung/Insassenschutz) are separate, optional contracts sold alongside Kfz-Haftpflicht/Kasko, not automatically included in Casco. The Fahrerschutz payout for one claim is capped at the MTPL cover sum per injured person, up to a maximum of 15 million EUR.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

Occasional or exceptional use of the vehicle by a third party (other than the named users) is only permitted if that person is at least 23 years old; the same minimum age is also used as a condition for several preferential no-claims (SF-Klasse) starting classifications for spouses/partners.

Repair network requirements

If you agree to the 'Werkstattservice', the insurer chooses the repair workshop and pays the repair costs directly; if you arrange repair at another workshop without contacting the insurer first, the benefit is cut to 85% of the calculated amount. Choosing a partner workshop does not by itself reduce the agreed deductible, except that the deductible is always waived for a professionally executed glass repair.

Territorial scope

Cover applies within the geographical borders of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU; the scope can be extended or restricted by separate agreement, and an International Insurance Card extends cover to the non-crossed-out countries listed on it.

Anti-theft requirements

Costs for replacing locks and keys are covered only if the vehicle keys were stolen through burglary or robbery; there is no cover if the keys were stolen from inside the insured vehicle or from a key safe attached to it. Grossly negligent facilitation of the vehicle's theft removes the usual benefit-reduction leniency granted for gross negligence.

Claim notification deadline

Any event that may lead to a claim must generally be reported within one week; theft or loss of the vehicle or co-insured parts must be reported immediately in text form, and theft, fire or animal-collision damage exceeding 500 EUR must additionally be reported to the police immediately.

Deductible rules

An agreed deductible is deducted once per claim event and per insured vehicle. It is waived entirely if you opt for a professional glass repair instead of replacement, and it is not deducted a second time for 'Eigenschäden' (self-inflicted damage to your own other insured property) claims under the Vollkasko Premium/E-Vollkasko Premium enhancement.
