Direct payment

Under the optional Workshop Service module, repair billing is settled directly between the partner workshop and uniVersa, so the policyholder does not need to pay upfront.

Geographic scope

Geographic Europe and non-European territories belonging to the EU

Coverage applies within the geographic borders of Europe and non-European territories that belong to the EU's area of application.

Unique selling points

  • Waives the objection of gross negligence in Kasko claims, except for enabling vehicle theft or driving under the influence.
  • New-price or purchase-price compensation on total loss for up to 24 months after first registration, well beyond typical minimum terms.
  • Optional Werkstatt-Service grants a 20% Kasko premium discount plus a free replacement vehicle, pickup/delivery and interior/exterior cleaning.
  • Follow-on damage from animal bites is covered with no fixed maximum compensation limit.
  • 24/7 claims hotline paired with uniVersa Case Management, which guides policyholders through the entire claims process and minimizes paperwork.

Coverage limits

Own Damage (Casco)

Covered

The insured vehicle is covered against damage, destruction, loss or total loss from the events listed under Teilkasko (partial cover) and Vollkasko (comprehensive). Maximum compensation for any loss is capped at the new price (Neupreis) of the vehicle, not a fixed sum, per A.2.5.10.

Source

Total Loss / Destruction / Loss of Vehicle

Covered

Pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) less residual value on total loss, destruction or loss. For cars, new-price compensation (Neupreisentschädigung) applies for up to 24 months after first registration for vehicles bought new, and purchase-price compensation (Kaufpreisentschädigung) for up to 24 months for used cars bought within 60 months of first registration (A.2.5.1.1-A.2.5.1.4). Leasing vehicles, rental cars, taxis and self-drive rental cars are excluded from the enhanced new-price/purchase-price benefits.

Source

Partial Loss / Repair Costs

Covered

If the vehicle is damaged, required repair costs are paid up to the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) if fully and properly repaired, or up to the replacement value less residual value otherwise (A.2.5.2.1). Towing costs to the nearest suitable workshop are also covered within the same cap (A.2.5.2.2).

Source

Theft, Robbery, Unauthorized Use

Covered

Covers theft, robbery, surrender due to robbery-related extortion, embezzlement (only if the vehicle was not entrusted to the perpetrator) and unauthorized use of the vehicle (A.2.2.1.2). Compensation is capped at the vehicle's replacement value, not a fixed sum.

Glass Breakage

Covered

Covers breakage damage to glazing (front/rear/side/roof/partition glass, mirror glass, light covers) (A.2.2.1.5). At partner workshops (Carglass, Wintec) no deductible is charged for repair, and the deductible is reduced by EUR 75 if the windscreen is replaced at a partner workshop. Consequential damage is generally excluded except for environmental sticker/vignette replacement and light bulb replacement.

Source

Natural Hazards

Covered

Covers direct impact of storm (wind force 8+), hail, lightning strike, flood, earthquake, subsidence, landslide, mudslide, avalanche, snow pressure or volcanic eruption on the vehicle, including objects thrown onto/against the vehicle by these forces and overvoltage damage from lightning strikes (e.g., while an EV is charging) (A.2.2.1.3).

Source

Vandalism / Malicious Acts / Hacking

Covered

Only in Vollkasko

Covers malicious or spiteful acts by persons not authorized to use the vehicle, including damage from a hacking attack directed immediately at the vehicle itself (e.g., manipulation of the vehicle software). Attacks on a manufacturer's or third-party server that only indirectly affect the vehicle are excluded, as are the manufacturer's own programming/maintenance errors (A.2.2.2.3). Only available under comprehensive (Vollkasko) cover.

Roadside Assistance (Kfz-Schutzbrief)

unlimited

Optional add-on (Kfz-Schutzbrief) for cars and motorcycles. When organized by uniVersa, breakdown assistance, towing and recovery are covered in unlimited amount (A.3.5.1-A.3.5.3); if not organized by uniVersa, reimbursement is capped at EUR 154. Further capped benefits from 30 km away from home: rental car up to EUR 490, overnight stay up to EUR 100/night for max. 4 nights, vehicle storage up to 2 weeks, hospital-visit costs up to EUR 500, repatriation/funeral costs up to EUR 5,000, and locksmith/key costs up to EUR 125.

Replacement Vehicle

€490

Under the optional Werkstatt-Service module for cars (not leased vehicles), the partner workshop provides a free replacement vehicle for the duration of the repair, though a same-class vehicle cannot be guaranteed (A.2.5.3.2.b). Alternatively, under the optional Kfz-Schutzbrief, a rental car is covered up to EUR 490 while the vehicle is not roadworthy (A.3.6.3).

Driver Accident Protection (Fahrerschutz)

Optional

Optional add-on (Fahrerschutzversicherung) to the MTPL policy, available against an extra premium. It compensates the authorized driver's own personal injury from an accident while driving (as if a third party were liable), including loss of earnings, survivor's benefits and pain-and-suffering compensation (min. 5 consecutive hospital days) (A.4.1, A.4.4.1). The payout is capped at the agreed personal-injury sum of the associated MTPL policy, not a fixed figure in the terms (A.4.4.3); marketing material cites up to EUR 15 million per claim.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The optional Rabattschutz (no-claims-bonus protection) module does not apply if the at-fault driver is younger than 23, though the module can still be purchased; the policy must also be rated at least SF-class 4 at the start of Rabattschutz cover (I.5.2.1, I.5.2.2).

Repair network requirements

If the optional Werkstatt-Service module is agreed for cars, uniVersa selects the repair workshop and the repair contract is concluded between the policyholder and that workshop (A.2.5.3.1); this grants a 20% discount on the Kasko premium. Even without this module, if a Voll- or Teilkasko claim (other than glass) is repaired at a uniVersa-designated partner workshop, the agreed deductible is reduced by 50% (A.2.5.12).

Territorial scope

Casco cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe and non-European territories belonging to the area of application of the European Union (A.2.4).

Anti-theft requirements

The reviewed terms and conditions do not specify a mandatory anti-theft device (e.g., alarm, immobilizer) as a precondition for theft cover; general obligations only require that the vehicle is used only by an authorized driver with the required licence (D.1.1).

Claim notification deadline

Any event that could lead to a claim must generally be reported within one week (E.1.1.1). Theft of the vehicle or insured parts must be reported immediately in text form (E.1.3.1), and theft, fire or animal-collision damage exceeding EUR 500 must be reported to the police without delay (E.1.3.4).

Deductible rules

If a deductible is agreed, it is deducted from compensation for each claim event (A.2.5.12). For glass damage, the deductible is waived if the damage is repaired (not replaced) at a designated workshop rather than by windscreen replacement. For Smart Repair of minor bodywork damage, the current terms apply no deductible at all (A.2.2.2.5). For other Voll-/Teilkasko claims (excluding glass) repaired at a uniVersa partner workshop without the Werkstatt-Service module, the agreed deductible is reduced by 50%.
