Direct payment

For repairs, VRK reimburses invoiced repair costs up to the replacement value against a receipt; if you agree to Kasko SELECT, VRK itself selects and commissions the workshop from its network and pays the repair costs directly.

Geographic scope

Europe and non-European territories under EU jurisdiction

Coverage applies within the geographic borders of Europe and non-European territories falling under EU jurisdiction; there is no coverage in Russia or Belarus.

Unique selling points

  • Kasko SELECT can save up to 20% on the premium in exchange for insurer-selected network workshops and a 6-year repair warranty.
  • GAP coverage (Differenzkasko) for leased and financed vehicles is included in Casco automatically at no extra premium.
  • Coverage extends to extended natural hazards such as earthquake, subsidence, landslide and volcanic eruption, beyond the typical storm/hail/flood scope.
  • A Kombi-Bonus of 5% applies to the motor liability and Casco premium when bundled with at least two other qualifying VRK policies.
  • Owners of pure electric vehicles benefit from an additional CO2-Bonus (€80/year in 2025) and VRK highlights ethically and ecologically screened capital investment as part of its brand positioning.

Coverage limits

Own vehicle accident damage (comprehensive)

Covered

Only in Vollkasko

Vollkasko covers damage to the insured vehicle caused by an accident, including self-caused accidents, weather-related loss of control (aquaplaning, black ice, fog) and accidents caused by sensor failure or hacking/software manipulation. Compensation is capped at the vehicle's replacement value (Neupreis) at the claim date.

Source

Total loss, destruction or theft settlement

Covered

Only in Basis-Tarif, Classic-Tarif, Kasko PLUS

On total loss, destruction or loss of the vehicle, VRK pays the replacement value (Wiederbeschaffungswert) less residual value. New-price compensation (Neupreis) applies instead if the loss occurs within 6 months of first registration under the Basis-Tarif, within 24 months under the Classic-Tarif, or within 36 months with the Kasko PLUS module; it also applies if repair costs reach at least 80% of the new price within that window.

Source

Partial damage / repair costs

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko

If the vehicle is repaired fully and properly, VRK reimburses the necessary repair costs up to the replacement value against invoice, including diagnosis costs for a damaged drive battery and recalibration costs for replaced sensors. If the vehicle is not fully or properly repaired, compensation is capped at the replacement value less residual value.

Source

Theft, robbery, embezzlement, extortion

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko

Covers theft, robbery and embezzlement of the vehicle and extortion of its surrender, including keyless-entry system manipulation, as well as damage caused during an attempted theft. Unauthorized use by persons with absolutely no authorization is also covered; costs for replacing locks/keys or re-coding keyless systems after theft or extortion of the keys are reimbursed.

Source

Glass breakage

Covered

Only in Teilkasko, Vollkasko

Covers breakage damage to the vehicle's glazing (windshield, rear/side windows, glass roofs, mirrors, light covers), including glass/plastic panes of integrated driver-assistance systems and displays, plus replacement of any required light source. Costs for recalibrating driver-assistance systems and cleaning the interior after a windshield replacement are also reimbursed.

Source

Natural hazards

Covered

Only in Basis-Tarif, Classic-Tarif, Teilkasko, Vollkasko

Covers direct impact on the vehicle from storm (from wind force 7), hail, flooding, earthquake, subsidence, landslide, avalanche, or volcanic eruption, plus lightning strike and resulting overvoltage damage. Under the Basis-Tarif, damage from avalanches and roof-avalanches (Dachlawinen) is excluded; the Classic-Tarif includes it.

Source

Vandalism

Covered

Only in Vollkasko

Covers malicious or wanton damage to the vehicle caused by persons with absolutely no authorization to use it (e.g. a hacker maliciously manipulating the vehicle's software); available only under Vollkasko.

Source

Roadside / breakdown assistance

Optional

Only in Vollkasko, Teilkasko

Within Casco itself, VRK only covers towing of a damaged vehicle or drive battery from the accident site to the nearest suitable workshop. Comprehensive roadside assistance (on-site help from your doorstep, nationwide towing, rental car, onward/return travel, overnight stays, pet care, medical repatriation) is provided under the Schutzbrief, a legally separate, optional contract that can be taken out alongside Casco.

Source

Replacement vehicle / rental car costs

Excluded

Casco explicitly excludes the cost of renting a replacement vehicle. VRK only reimburses up to €500 for the transfer and registration (Überführung und Zulassung) of a newly purchased replacement vehicle after total loss, destruction or loss of the insured vehicle, and only if that replacement vehicle is insured with VRK; a Mietwagen-Service is available separately under the Schutzbrief.

Driver/occupant accident protection

Optional

Personal injury to the driver from an accident while using the vehicle is not covered by Casco itself but by the Fahrerschutz, a separate, optional contract combinable with Casco. It reimburses loss of earnings, pain and suffering (from 3 consecutive in-patient days), care costs, maintenance and survivors' benefits, plus a €20/day hospital allowance for up to 4 weeks.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The AKB impose no specific minimum driver age or experience requirement; the vehicle may be used by any authorized driver holding the legally required driving licence. New/inexperienced drivers are simply placed in a lower no-claims class, which affects the premium rather than eligibility for cover.

Repair network requirements

Under standard Casco you may freely choose your repair workshop. If you agree to Kasko SELECT, you let VRK select and commission a workshop from its network; VRK then pays the workshop directly, provides a 6-year repair warranty, and covers vehicle transport if the workshop is more than 15 km from your home. Bypassing the agreed workshop selection under Kasko SELECT can lead to a reduction of up to 15% of the payout.

Territorial scope

Cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe and non-European territories falling under EU jurisdiction; there is no cover in Russia or Belarus.

Anti-theft requirements

The AKB do not prescribe a specific anti-theft device (e.g. alarm, tracker) as a precondition for theft cover; however, grossly negligently enabling theft (e.g. leaving keys accessible) can lead to a proportionate reduction of the payout.

Claim notification deadline

Any claim must be reported within one week (verbal or telephone notice suffices); theft of the vehicle or co-insured items must be reported in writing (letter/e-mail). If a theft, fire or animal-collision claim is likely to exceed €1,000, the police must also be notified without delay.

Deductible rules

If a deductible (Selbstbeteiligung) is agreed, it is deducted from the payout for every claim event; the exact amount is stated in the policy schedule (Versicherungsschein) rather than fixed in the AKB. VRK waives the deductible for windshield damage if you have it professionally repaired (rather than replaced) using a workshop agreed with VRK in advance.
