Regulatory updates
The merger of Barmenia and Gothaer into BarmeniaGothaer was cleared by Germany's Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) on 18 March 2024, which found the deal to be among the largest mergers in the German insurance market in years but posed no risk to competition. BaFin approved the merger on 26 August 2024, and the combination was formally completed with entry in the commercial register on 4 September 2024, creating Germany's 10th-largest insurer with roughly EUR 8-9 billion in premium income, about 7,500 employees and 8 million customers.
