Allianz Direct Versicherungs-AG
Allianz Direct
Allianz Direct is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Germany market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
Allianz Direct pays justified third-party compensation claims directly on the policyholder's behalf and rejects or defends unjustified or excessive claims; it may settle claims and appoint legal counsel in the policyholder's name.
Geographic scope
Europe and non-European EU territories, plus green-card listed countries
Cover applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU; where an international motor insurance card (green card) has been issued, cover also extends to the non-struck-through countries listed on it.
Unique selling points
- The optional 'Direct Plus' upgrade adds own-damage cover (Eigenschadendeckung) for the policyholder's other vehicles or buildings, up to EUR 100,000 per insurance year with a EUR 500 deductible — a benefit not typically found in standard MTPL policies.
- 'Direct Plus' foreign accident protection (Auslandsschadenschutz) settles claims as if the foreign at-fault party were insured with Allianz Direct, covering the EU plus Andorra, the UK, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and Serbia.
- Standard 'Mallorca' cover is built into the base MTPL policy, protecting the policyholder and their spouse or registered partner when they cause an accident driving a rented car abroad.
- Fully digital, app-based policy management: claim photos, cancellations and contract changes are handled through the online customer account, reflecting Allianz Direct's digital-first service model.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
Covered
No limit stated
Covers injury or death caused to third parties through use of the insured vehicle; the insurer pays justified compensation claims per insured event up to the sum insured stated in the policy schedule (Versicherungsschein).
Property damage liability
Covered
No limit stated
Covers damage to, destruction of, or loss of third-party property caused by use of the insured vehicle (including towed/attached trailers), per insured event up to the sum insured stated in the policy schedule.
Defence against unjustified claims
Covered
If a third-party compensation claim against the policyholder is unfounded or excessive, Allianz Direct defends against it; the insurer may fulfil or reject claims and issue statements in the policyholder's name, and may instruct a lawyer on the policyholder's behalf.
Green card / international motor insurance card
Covered
Cover applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories of the EU. If Allianz Direct issues an international insurance card (green card), cover also applies in the countries listed on that card that are not struck through.
Mobility guarantee (roadside assistance)
Optional
Optional, separately selectable contract (Teil A.4) for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (plus trailer/caravan up to 750 kg) covering breakdown assistance, towing, vehicle recovery (up to EUR 750), a replacement vehicle or transport cost reimbursement (up to EUR 30/day, for 5/15/30 days depending on cause), and hotel accommodation (up to EUR 100 per person/night) in case of breakdown, accident, theft, key loss, or illness/death of the driver.
Driver protection insurance (driver accident cover)
Optional
Optional, separately selectable contract (Teil A.5) compensating the authorized driver's own bodily injury from an accident while driving, even if the driver was at fault, as if a third party were liable, applying German civil compensation law up to the sum insured in the policy schedule. Not available if the insured vehicle is a motorcycle or scooter.
Passenger accident benefit
Excluded
There is no dedicated passenger accident benefit. Passengers injured through the fault of the insured driver are protected only indirectly, as third parties who may claim under the bodily injury liability cover; the driver-only Fahrerschutzversicherung (Teil A.5) explicitly helps only the driver, not passengers.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Coverage applies within the geographical boundaries of Europe and the non-European territories of the EU; additional countries apply if an international insurance card (green card) is issued and the country is not struck through on it.
Green card rules
An international insurance card (green card) may be issued by Allianz Direct; cover then extends to the countries listed on the card that are not struck through, in addition to the EU and non-European EU territories.
Driver restrictions
The vehicle may only be used by an authorized driver (someone using it with the knowledge and consent of the person entitled to dispose of it) who holds the required driving licence; the vehicle must not be driven, or allowed to be driven, by anyone unable to safely operate it due to alcohol or drugs.
Claim notification deadline
An insured event must be reported within one week. If judicial or extrajudicial claims are asserted against the policyholder, this must also be reported within one week of the claim being made; the policyholder must leave the conduct of any legal dispute to Allianz Direct.
Bonus-malus rules
The premium depends on a no-claims class (Schadenfreiheitsklasse, SF-Klasse) based on the claims history. A claims-free calendar year (at least six months of cover, no reported claim requiring payment or reserve) advances the policy one class at the next renewal; a claims-affected year causes a downgrade per the applicable table. Passenger cars use a system of up to SF50 (50 years claims-free), while motorcycles/scooters use a separate system of up to SF20 (20 years claims-free), each with its own downgrade table.
