Alte Leipziger Versicherung Aktiengesellschaft (part of the Alte Leipziger – Hallesche / ALH Gruppe, whose mutual parent is Alte Leipziger Lebensversicherung a.G.)
Alte Leipziger
Alte Leipziger is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Germany market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The insurer pays justified third-party claims directly in cash (A 1.1.2) and is authorised to settle or defend claims made against the policyholder in the policyholder's name (Regulierungsvollmacht, A 1.1.4); co-insured persons (e.g. driver, owner, employer) may assert claims under the contract directly against the insurer in their own right (A 1.2).
Geographic scope
Geographic limits of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the European Union; extendable to further non-European countries listed on the International Insurance (Green) Card.
Cover follows the legally required scope of the country visited, at least the scope of the German contract; the Mallorca policy extends Kfz-Haftpflicht cover to rented Pkw, Kraftrad or Campingfahrzeug abroad for rental periods up to one month.
Unique selling points
- Combined property and financial-loss liability cover of 100 million EUR per claim event and 15 million EUR per injured person for bodily injury, well above statutory minimums.

Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
€15,000,000
Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung indemnifies third parties for personal injury (injury or death) caused by use of the insured vehicle, up to 15 million EUR per injured person, identical across the compact, classic and comfort tariff variants and above statutory minimum limits.
Property and pure financial loss liability
€100,000,000
Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung provides a combined lump-sum cover of 100 million EUR per claim event for property damage and pure financial loss (Sach- und Vermögensschäden pauschal), identical across the compact, classic and comfort tariff variants and above statutory minimum limits.
Defence against unfounded claims
Covered
Where third-party claims are unfounded, the insurer defends them at its own cost (also where only the amount claimed is unfounded), including conducting negotiations and legal proceedings on the policyholder's behalf; this is a built-in claims-handling function of Kfz-Haftpflicht rather than a separately quantified legal-expenses sum.
International Insurance (Green) Card
Covered
If issued to the policyholder, the International Insurance Card extends Kfz-Haftpflicht cover to the non-European countries listed on the card whose names are not crossed out, with the scope of cover following the visited country's legal requirements or the German contract, whichever is greater.
Schutzbrief (roadside/breakdown assistance)
Optional
Optional add-on (only in effect if specifically agreed and shown in the policy) providing a 24/7 assistance hotline plus a set of individually capped services rather than one overall sum: restoring roadworthiness at the roadside up to 250 EUR, towing up to 250 EUR (400 EUR for delivery vans/camper vans), recovery of the vehicle up to 1,500 EUR, replacement car rental up to 75 EUR/day for max. 7 days, and additional foreign-travel benefits up to 525 EUR for return-journey rental costs abroad; exact scope depends on the chosen tariff (compact/classic/comfort).
Fahrerschutzversicherung (driver accident protection)
€1,000,000
Optional add-on (only for Pkw/camper vans, if specifically agreed) that compensates the authorised driver's own personal injury from a self-caused accident as if a third party were liable, covering e.g. loss of earnings (up to 2,000 EUR/month for max. 12 months), rehabilitation (up to 50,000 EUR) and disability-adapted conversions (up to 50,000 EUR), capped at an overall 1 million EUR per claim event.
Kfz-Unfallversicherung (occupant accident insurance)
Optional
Optional add-on covering all authorised occupants (Pauschalsystem) for injury or death in an accident while using the vehicle; the insured sum is individually agreed and shown in the policy (not a fixed AKB amount) - with two or more occupants the sum increases by 50% and is divided among them.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies within the geographic limits of Europe and the non-European territories of the EU; the visited country's legally required scope applies, at least the German contract's scope; extendable to further non-European countries via the International Insurance Card.
Green card rules
The International Insurance Card, if issued, extends cover to the non-European countries listed on it whose names are not crossed out; border insurance (at the frontier) may be required for countries marked accordingly.
Driver restrictions
The vehicle may only be used by an authorised driver (with the knowledge and consent of the person entitled to dispose of it) who holds a valid driving licence and is not subject to a driving ban; the policyholder, holder or owner must not knowingly allow use by an unauthorised or unlicensed driver.
Claim notification deadline
Any claim event that may lead to a payment must be reported to the insurer within one week; if claims are asserted against the policyholder out of court, this must also be reported within one week of the claim being raised.
Bonus-malus rules
Classification follows the SF-Klassen (no-claims class) system based on the claims history in Kfz-Haftpflicht and Vollkasko (see Anhang 1 tables); a claim-free year improves the class, a claims-affected year downgrades it. In the compact tariff, a stricter downgrading applies in the event of a claim ("verschärfte Rückstufung"), whereas classic and comfort do not apply this stricter downgrade and instead offer an optional Rabattschutz rider that avoids downgrading for one claim per calendar year per line of business.
