Concordia Versicherungs-Gesellschaft auf Gegenseitigkeit
Concordia
Concordia is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Germany market with no online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
Concordia settles justified third-party claims directly in cash on the policyholder's behalf and defends unfounded claims at its own cost under its settlement authority (Regulierungsvollmacht).
Geographic scope
Nationwide (Germany)
Cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe and the non-European territories that belong to the EU; extendable to further non-European countries listed on the Green Card.
Unique selling points
- MTPL offers liability limits of up to €100 million per claim across all tariffs, far above the statutory minimum.
- Mallorca cover extends the same liability sum insured to rental cars driven abroad, included at no extra cost in the Premium tariffs.
- Ausland-SchadenPlus compensates the policyholder directly under German law after a road accident abroad caused by another party, avoiding the need to pursue a foreign insurer.
- An optional Rabattschutz add-on lets policyholders keep their no-claims class after one at-fault accident per year.
- A standalone environmental-damage insurance is included, covering clean-up liability up to €5 million per event and €10 million per year.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
€100,000,000
MTPL indemnifies justified third-party bodily-injury claims arising from use of the insured vehicle up to the agreed sum insured, marketed as a combined lump sum of up to €100 million per claim event across all tariffs (Premium, Premium Partner, Classic), with a sub-limit of up to €15 million per injured person.
Property damage liability
€100,000,000
Covers justified third-party property-damage and pure financial-loss claims from use of the insured vehicle, within the same combined lump-sum limit of up to €100 million per event, standard across all tariffs.
Defence against unfounded claims
Covered
Where third-party claims against the policyholder are unfounded (in whole or in part), Concordia defends them at its own cost and is authorised to settle or contest claims on the policyholder's behalf (Regulierungsvollmacht); in litigation Concordia conducts the proceedings and appoints legal counsel in the policyholder's name.
Green Card / International Motor Insurance Card
Covered
If Concordia has issued the International Motor Insurance Card (former 'Green Card'), MTPL cover extends to the non-European countries listed on the card that are not struck through, applying the greater of the destination country's legally required cover or the policyholder's own contractual scope.
Roadside assistance / breakdown cover (MobilPlus)
unlimited
MobilPlusversicherung is a separate, optional contract providing roadside assistance, towing, and travel-related help after breakdown, accident or theft. Costs are unlimited if the policyholder calls Concordia's emergency line and lets Concordia organise the service; if organised by the policyholder themselves, reimbursement is capped (e.g. €150-€200 for restoring roadworthiness, €200-€300 for towing, depending on vehicle type).
Driver accident cover (Fahrerschutzversicherung)
€15,000,000
Optional add-on, only purchasable together with MTPL, compensating the authorised driver's own bodily injury from an accident while driving, as if a third party were liable. Per-claim sub-limits include up to €200,000 pain-and-suffering, up to €4,000/month loss of earnings, up to €3,000/month maintenance, up to €1,000/month household help, up to €200,000 for disability-related conversions and up to €7,500 funeral costs; total liability per event is capped at the vehicle's MTPL sum insured, max. €15 million.
Passenger/occupant bodily injury (within liability limits)
€100,000,000
There is no separate passenger-accident policy; instead, MTPL explicitly covers bodily injury suffered by a co-insured person as a passenger of the insured vehicle (e.g. injured as a front-seat passenger), within the same combined liability sum insured of up to €100 million per event. Only own damage to property owned jointly with the driver/owner is excluded, not bodily injury.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe and the non-European territories belonging to the EU, following at least the destination country's legally required scope.
Green card rules
Where Concordia has issued an International Motor Insurance Card, cover extends to the non-European countries listed on it that are not struck through, at least to the extent of the policyholder's own contract.
Driver restrictions
The vehicle may only be used for the agreed purpose and driven only by an authorised driver (one using it with the knowledge and consent of the person entitled to dispose of it) who holds the required driving licence; letting an unauthorised or unlicensed person drive breaches the policyholder's duties.
Claim notification deadline
Any event that may trigger a claim must be reported within one week; an immediate report to Concordia's emergency hotline counts as notification for all motor covers in the contract.
Bonus-malus rules
Premium is set by a claims (S) / no-claims (SF) class determined by the claims history; a claim-free contract year moves the policy one class better and a claims-burdened year moves it down according to fixed tables that differ by tariff (Premium vs Classic) and vehicle type, with a 'Rabattschutz' add-on available (from SF class 4) to absorb one at-fault claim per year without downgrade.
