GARANTA Versicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft
NÜRNBERGER
NÜRNBERGER is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Germany market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
The insurer settles justified third-party liability claims directly in cash and, at its own cost, defends against unjustified claims either fully or to the extent they are unfounded in amount.
Geographic scope
Europe
Cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe, the European and Asian parts of Turkey, and non-European territories belonging to the EU; the scope follows the level legally required in the country visited, at least the level of the German contract.
Unique selling points
- Liability cover of up to 100 million EUR for personal, property and financial damage, with a 15 million EUR per-person cap — above many market minimums.
- Mallorca Policy is included as standard, extending cover to accidents caused with rental vehicles abroad in Europe.
- Auslandsschadenschutz settles claims according to German law in 26 European countries at no extra premium.
- The Fahrer Plus app lets policyholders add extra drivers for up to 30 days, bookable up to 21 days in advance, without changing the main policy.
- Rabattschutz keeps the no-claims class unchanged after one liability and one comprehensive claim per calendar year.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
€15,000,000
Compensates third-party bodily injury claims up to 15,000,000 EUR per injured person, within an overall combined limit of 100,000,000 EUR for personal injury, property and pure financial loss per event.
Property and financial loss liability
€100,000,000
Covers third-party property damage and pure financial loss within the combined liability limit of 100,000,000 EUR for personal injury, property and financial damage per event.
Legal defence against unfounded claims
Not established from the insurer's documents
The insurer defends the policyholder against unjustified third-party claims at its own cost, in and out of court; no separate sum insured beyond the liability limits is stated in the terms.
Green Card / International Motor Insurance Card
Not established from the insurer's documents
If issued, the Green Card extends liability cover to the non-European countries listed on it that are not crossed out; if a valid Green Card existed on the day of the accident (or its use was waived by agreement), benefits follow at least the conditions and sums legally required in the country visited.
Roadside assistance (Schutzbrief)
Not established from the insurer's documents
Optional add-on to the MTPL contract, only covered if explicitly requested and listed on the policy schedule. Covers on-the-spot breakdown recovery up to 200 EUR and towing up to 300 EUR (breakdown-vehicle costs offset against the towing limit). If combined with the Elektro Plus add-on, towing/roadside help for a discharged EV battery is unlimited.
Driver accident protection (Fahrerschutz)
€8,000,000
Optional add-on to the MTPL contract, only covered if explicitly requested. Compensates the driver's own bodily injury as if a third party were liable, up to 8,000,000 EUR, including loss of earnings up to 1,500 EUR/month, maintenance claims up to 2,000 EUR/month, household help up to 1,000 EUR/month, disability-related home conversion up to 150,000 EUR, and compensation for permanent impairment up to 5,000 EUR/month.
Passenger/vehicle occupant accident insurance
Not established from the insurer's documents
Optional Kfz-Unfallversicherung add-on, only covered if explicitly requested. Provides invalidity, death and other benefits for vehicle occupants injured or killed in connection with use of the vehicle; the sum insured is individually agreed and shown on the policy schedule rather than fixed by the terms.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies within the geographic borders of Europe, the European and Asian parts of Turkey, and non-European territories belonging to the EU; the scope follows the level legally required in the country visited, at least the level of the German contract.
Green card rules
If a Green Card has been issued, cover extends to the non-European countries listed on it that are not crossed out; if a valid Green Card existed on the day of the accident or its use was waived by supplementary agreement, benefits follow at least the conditions and sums required by the visited country's law.
Driver restrictions
The vehicle may only be used by a driver authorised by the person entitled to dispose of it, who holds the required driving licence and is not impaired by alcohol or other intoxicants; additional drivers can be temporarily added via the Fahrer Plus app for up to 30 days, bookable up to 21 days in advance.
Claim notification deadline
Any event that may lead to a claim must be reported within one week; theft of the vehicle must be reported immediately in text form; property damage claims not exceeding 500 EUR may first be self-settled and only need to be reported if self-settlement fails.
Bonus-malus rules
The no-claims class (SF-Klasse) and premium rate follow the claims history per the SF tables; a claim normally lowers the class the following year unless the Rabattschutz add-on is selected, which keeps the class unchanged after the first liability and first comprehensive claim per calendar year; a downgrade can also be avoided by voluntarily refunding a claims payment of up to 1,000 EUR within 12 months of notification.
