Direct payment

Janitos is authorized to settle justified third-party liability claims directly on the policyholder's behalf and to defend against unjustified claims (regulatory power of attorney); no application or processing fees are charged by intermediaries.

Geographic scope

Europe and EU territories

Coverage applies within the geographic borders of Europe and non-European territories belonging to the EU; if a valid International Motor Insurance (Green) Card was issued, cover extends to the non-European countries listed on it unless crossed out, per local minimum requirements or the contract's own limits if higher.

Unique selling points

  • No-claims class transferable to a very wide circle of relatives and even the policyholder's employer, well beyond typical market practice.
  • Second vehicle can start at the same no-claims class as the first car (up to SF 10) even if the first car is insured elsewhere.
  • Built-in own-damage cover (Eigenschadendeckung) reimburses damage the policyholder causes to their own other cars, up to EUR 100,000 per year.
  • JurDrive traffic legal protection (EUR 250,000 sum insured) is included at no extra premium in the Advanced tier.
  • Free Mallorca-Police extension automatically tops up low statutory liability sums abroad to the policy's own limits.

Coverage limits

€100,000,000

Combined lump-sum liability cover of EUR 100 million for personal injury, property damage and pure financial loss per claim event, with personal injury capped at EUR 15 million per injured person. Identical in Compact and Advanced tiers.

Property damage liability

€100,000,000

Property (and pure financial loss) damage is covered within the same combined EUR 100 million lump-sum liability limit shared with bodily injury per claim event. Identical in Compact and Advanced tiers.

Defence against unfounded liability claims

Covered

Janitos satisfies justified third-party claims and defends the policyholder against unfounded claims at its own cost, within the liability sum insured (no separate sub-limit). Identical in Compact and Advanced tiers.

International (Green Card) coverage

Covered

If a valid International Motor Insurance Card was issued for the vehicle, MTPL cover automatically extends to the non-European countries listed on it (unless crossed out), applying at least the scope required by the visited country's law or the contract's own scope if broader. Standard in both tiers, no additional premium.

Source

Mobility protection (breakdown/accident assistance)

Optional

Optional add-on (available for an extra premium) providing breakdown and accident assistance from the policyholder's home address, including roadside repair (up to EUR 154), towing, return travel, overnight stays, rental car and further travel-assistance services with individual sub-limits. Available in both Compact and Advanced tiers.

Driver accident protection (Fahrerschutz)

€15,000,000

Optional add-on (extra premium) covering the driver's own personal injury sustained in an accident while driving the insured vehicle, calculated as if a third party were liable; limited to the liability sum insured for personal injury, max. EUR 15 million per insurance year. Excludes drivers under 23 years old. Available in both Compact and Advanced tiers; no impact on the MTPL no-claims class.

Passenger accident insurance

No limit stated

No standalone passenger accident (Insassenunfall) product is offered; passengers injured through the insured vehicle's fault are covered as third parties under the MTPL bodily injury liability limit only.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Standard MTPL cover applies in Europe and EU territories, extended internationally under a valid Green Card. The optional Auslandsschaden-Schutz add-on (EU, UK, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein; excluding Germany) additionally lets the policyholder claim directly against Janitos when a foreign driver at fault is uninsured or under-covered.

Green card rules

Where a valid International Motor Insurance (Green) Card was issued, MTPL cover automatically extends to the non-European countries listed on it (unless crossed out), applying at least the legally required scope of the visited country or the broader contractual scope.

Driver restrictions

The vehicle may only be driven by a person authorized by the party entitled to dispose of it and holding the required driving licence; driving under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants that impair safe driving is prohibited. The optional Fahrerschutz add-on additionally excludes drivers under 23 years of age.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder must notify Janitos of any claim event that could trigger a benefit within one week in text form; if authorities are investigating, this must also be reported without delay.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums for MTPL and comprehensive cover follow a no-claims class (SF) system ranging from SF 50 (best) down through SF 1/2, classes S, 0 and M (worst), with annual re-rating based on the prior year's claims history. The optional Rabattschutz add-on (min. SF 4, no claim in the preceding 12 months) prevents a class downgrade after one claim per insurance year.
